  1. Why don't we install carpets and a leather sofa in there - instantly elevating Villa Park to the bestest ground in the world!?

    Sarcasm sir ?

You could get yellow carded for sarcasm here ;-)

  2. I voted go the last time and i am voting go this time. Just don't think we play the type of football that should grace Villa Park. I don't think we will gain the success we all crave playing the Martin O'Neill way and he has wasted millions on transfers. He has taken 4 years to build a solid defence and we still lack creativity in midfield and that 20 goals a season striker. Even when such a striker becomes available, he refuses to buy him. Bent's success at Sunderland should be giving O'Neill nightmares and that very player might jump up and bite O'Neill in the arse!

I want to see the type of football that 'Big Ron's' 90s team played and gained success with it. 'Big Ron' had an eye for the player who could do that something extra and win matches. Martin O'Neill views that type of player with suspicion and although we have gained some very creditable results and league finishes, i do believe with a more forward thinking manager at the helm, we would as far as quality of squad and Cup success is concerned, be much further forward.

I hope i have to eat a huge lump of humble pie at some stage inside the next year which will end the 'five year plan.' However, i sincerely doubt it and i believe O'Neill has taken us as far as he can!

Let's get this right, you'd prefer tippy tappy relegation football like west broms, over mons top 6 style football?

I personally couldn't care less about how we play, rather than how many points we get. Who would you get in, Mourinho? Who plays the same style.

Trust someone to pick West Brom instead of Arsenal, Spurs, Man U, or indeed even Wigan under their new manager. :x

What im saying is that with our style of football at the moment, can you see us being successful in Cup competitions, winning the Premiership or even gaining success in Europe? Nope, i didn't think so. I'm sick and tired of watching the likes of Wigan out playing us, yet you seem quite happy to see this. We need a manager who will buy technically gifted players to play in a way which will gain success for our club and fans. We at he moment play hoofball and are just too predicable!

Bottom line is old chap, if we are to play 'tippy tappy' football, we need some better 'tippy tappers' than West Broms !!!!

The Arse play a mix of long and short ball football, thus proving that if you have class players you will get quality, winning football ( mostly).

West Brom are a good exapmle of 'tippy tappy' on the cheap, that is what I think Max was saying .

  3. Tim The Villain & alike,

Seeing that you think players should have more comfortable seating on the bench and get with the times etc. Do you also advocate the wearing of headphones and being "chilled out" whilst sitting on the bench, waiting for a game?

It drives me mad to see players sitting, listening to music, when they should be watching the game to see how it is developing just in case they do manage to get on the pitch! How can a player get a feel for the atmosphere when he is listening to some speed garage or whatever it is they listen to!

I think that the dugout should be left as it is. It's called "sitting on the bench" for a reason. Until the day comes when they rename the non-selection of players to "Sitting in the chair", I think they should refrain from installing chairs.

it doesn't seem to do united subs any harm does it?

Personally, I'm not too fussed. MON doesn't use the seats anyway, so whatever.

lol Max, and I didn't even start this 'debate'.

I just think it certainly wouldn't harm the club and would help to make us look like a club with substance; a modern club with old fashioned tradtions mixed with new ideas.

  4. I tell you what I do wish we had, a tunnel that comes up out the ground rather than out the stand I bloody love them.

Or a tunnel that comes out of the middle of the stand, I think that always works better.

  5. If I was a regular subsitute on £30k a week or more I'd pay for my own leather seat and have a built in stereo system, drinks dispensor and a TV.

/ DVD player that pops up from the side at the press of a button.

Add heating to the seats and why care about playing - nectar ;-)

Seriously, I think we oughta upgrade our seats a bit.

  6. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, the Athens of America.

Currently living in Springfield, Massachusetts (at least for now officially the largest city with that name).

    ??

How come you're a Villa fan Levi ??

  7. Maybe we could have a drinks machine fitted in it and maybe a subway kiosk? Hmm? a bit of carpet maybe? or should we concentrate our priorities elsewhere! Oh now that does sound like a good idea!

No Subway kiosk, keep it healthy please ;-)

    Image my boy, image.

  8. I'm with you Vojskovoda - if we want to be a big club, it's time to act like a big club.

We are in the era of the squad, it's not simply a meter of '**** him , he's been dropped put him in the plastic seats' !!

I must say though, Wembley is the same, it amazed me to see that Coppello and the Endland players sit on cold plastic seats just like the ones that the fans sit in.

On that subject, having been on a few corporate days at Wembley, the changing rooms are shyte as well.

That stadium must have been very rushed in the end !

  9. Jeez, can't believe the 'small club syndrome' here.

Of course we need to get Rocaro seats in and have a proper players and coaches area.

Isn't this just another case of upgrading our stadium or do we want to stay down there with the wannabies ?

  10. Hi General,

Like many Villa fans, I'm keen to know what the plans are for Villa Park ?

It is quite apparent that the matchday atmosphere ( whilst being great) could be further enhanced by 'filling in ' the corners of the stadium - in either glass / translucent plastic ?

I think that this ( albeit short / medium term solution) would be a great enhancement to the atmosphere in VP.

  11. At present General, all transactions at the bars / serving hatches at VP are cash only.

Just a suggestion, it would be good to be able to pay at the tills by card, but can see that this could cause slowing down of the queue tremendously.

Also, it would be good to have a cahspoint or two in each stand - but this may be a security risk.

I was low on cash for the Cardiff game so had to spend very little before the game and at half time and it would have been great to have had one of these facilities in place.

I wonder if any other clubs have this problem and have created a solution to this ?

Just a few of my thoughts based on a small problem I encountered at this game.

  12. Also, it would make the ground a lot more atmospheric if all the corners were filled in around the ground - if only with glass / windows.

Definitely this. Even if we don't put seats in, filling in all the corners with glass would help keep the sound in, and would look good aswell.

Last week, on the Holte, we couldn't hear the Cardiff fans and they couldn't hear us !

Whenever we're on TV the Holte End ( due to its construction which we all love) cannot be heard.

This makes for dilution of atmosphere at VP.

Would be nice to see what the General thinks.

  13. Hi General,

Do hope that you're OK over there.

This question may have been asked before, and I apologise if this is so.

Can I ask what the Board's plans are for Villa Park re. the North Stand re-development ?

Can I cheekily suggest that it is re-named to say, The Ron Saunders End / Stand?

Also, it would make the ground a lot more atmospheric if all the corners were filled in around the ground - if only with glass / windows.

Fab win against Cardiff, bring on whoever we draw next !

    Many thanks,

    Tim

  14. General Krulak here:

    1. YorkshireCoop and Razor: It is not that I don't understand what you are saying...I understand it all too well. It is simply that I think that this particular line of thinking gets Clubs in trouble...and we don't want that to happen to us. We are looking for players who play our brand of football (the brand our Manger desires), who play their hearts out every game, who run their socks off, and who can be counted upon by their teammates. The player who elicits the occasional "wow, how did he manage to do that?" may well be the player who should have passed to the open man about 3 seconds earlier. Yes, it is great viewing...but is it team play? I've seen some pretty "wow" plays from some of out lads...Ashley, Gabby, to name two. Watching Carew give the Blues defenders absolute fits...holding the ball, turning, passing, shooting...I got one helluva wow out of that! I just think it is totally sad when ticket sales are based on what one or more fans believe is the wow factor. I am sorry...it is just my opinion.

General I appreciate your opinion but strongly disagree. Watching Carew hold the ball up does not compare to Paul Merson scoring a late minute winner out of the blue on a Monday night at Goodison Park, or watching Beni Carbone rip Leeds United to pieces in a FA Cup tie. It is just not exciting - yes it is good play, but not exciting.

Like I said before, you will always get your 30,000 odd people at Villa Park whether you have Harewood or Messi. However, along with success, exciting players will sell those extra seats and shirts, whether you think it is " totally sad " or not.

    Agree YorkshireCoop

Villa Park holds 42k plus fans, and in my opinion, the only way to a) fill the ground often and B) play REALLY exciting and WNNING football is to have a Mersonesque player in the team - someone who can change a game with pure football genious.

JC, Gabby and Ash are fab players, however the addition of a real crowd puller would definately take us to the next level.

Maybe in January that will happen ?

No pressure, but when paying so much to watch a game, especially in these times, opportunity costs become more applicable and it would be fantastic for the opportunity cost of going to VP to watch the claret and blue boys is bearable !

  15. It cannot be ignored though General that fans do get excited by a big name signing - and this does put bums on seats.

Possibly not a Kaka or a Messi - it would 'only' take a Defoe or similar to get the blood pumping again.

However, as you say, we do have a squad of some quality now so hopefully we can push on from last season with MON's management ability being crucial this season I would suggest.

I would also suggest that he is the man to do it over and above all of his counterparts.
