  1. randy is no better than ellis hes just got a great pr machine behind him, like most yanks

for me, weve not signed anyone that we wouldnt have done under ellis, infact in ellis' time weve made more high-profile signings that we ever have under lerner, the players weve signed under lerners stewardship arent any different than we would have got under ellis, theyve just cost shitloads more dosh cos hes a billionaire.....

oh, at least weve got some stainglassed windows, the odd free scarf and a swimming pool at bodymoor......... great !

i just choked on my coffee

  2. I have just emailed this:

    Dear Sir,

In response to your article regarding disquiet at Lerner takeover at Aston Villa I would like to offer my own viewpoint.

Randy Lerner's takeover of Aston Villa is the best thing that has happened to this club since 1982. Mr Lerner is a gentleman who has approached the takeover with courtesy and professionalism - unlike certain other consortiums that seem more interested in sniping at each other. The following short list gives my reasons for supporting Mr Lerner:

    1) Prior to making an offer, Mr Lerner approached various Villa fans groups (ones that you have actually heard of!) such as VFC, Supporters Trust, etc. and consulted them on their views on the club. No other consortium has embraced the fans in this way.

    2) Lerner's plan for Villa is not to simply pump in cash but to revitalise the club at all levels to allow it to make its own money. This will undo years of neglect and will raise the profile of the club and of Midlands football as a whole.

    3) Lerner plans to create a museum of sorts to celebrate Villa's illustrious past and to honour those that have made the club great in the past. The outgoing board never saw fit to do this as Villa's best achievements were made without them!

    4) Mr Lerner has the right background to run a football club. His experiences of running the Cleveland Browns are valuable and applicable (despite being a different sport) - there are many parallels between English football clubs and American football clubs.

    5) The offer made by Reform Aquisitions is funded by Mr Lerner's own cash, not from a loan, which means the club starts a new era with no debt weighing it down (unlike Manchester United and Chelsea).

    6) Mr Lerner has guaranteed that there will be no selling of Villa Park or of merging with Birmingham City or West Brom - which is just ridiculous anyway.

    7) Mr Lerner also has an excellent relationship with our new manager, Martin O'Neil. The two of them really are "Dream Ticket" for Aston Villa - with them both at the helm I would expect Villa to be back in the top 5 regularly within 5 years, if not sooner.

    8) Mr Lerner has pledged to improve the facilities at the training ground, academy and Villa Park itself.

    9) Finally, there will be significant investment in the playing squad.

I plead with you to communicate these points to the readers of your newspaper - support Mr Lerner's takeover of Aston Villa, it is the start of a new golden age.

  3. Well, it is now Friday. The day by which a lot of people said they would be worried if nothing had happened (me included). And . . . (surprise) . . . nothing has happened! No takeover, no takeover news (other than rumours) and no transfers in and out.

Some re-shuffling of backroom staff but thats it. We have about 2.5 weeks of the transfer window left.

So are people getting worried yet, or still confident the deal will be done?

  4. ANd then what happens when MON walks out and it's obvious why? What will the pressure on the man be like then having just lost the services of , arguably, the best manager we have had in almost 30 years?

Pressure means nothing to Doug - its never bothered him before.

  5. THE battle to take control of Aston Villa is expected to intensify in the next few days despite the club showing a £8.2million pre-tax loss for the year ending May 31, 2006.

  "next few days" "within the next 48 hours" "within the next 2 days"

"Few" is about as vague as you can get.
