  1. I think he'll stay.

Despite our record of selling players in recent seasons, it's very much just been one key player out the door every summer.

It won't look very good for the board if Downing and Young both depart this season.

Young will leave, more contracts will be offered to Downing but whether he signs them is up to him so we'll probably be in an Ashley Young situation again next summer with him.

  2. Not solely as obviously the defence started to drop too deep but watched the last 15 minutes again and we hardly helped the ball up front at all which allowed United just to attack at will until they scored.

  3. Well go back to the Man. Uited game. Gabby was brilliant at holding the ball up, gave Vidic the run around which lead to the first penalty. Obvioously he tires, we take him off at 2 nil, bring the Fonz on and suddenly the ball dosen't stick anymore and we barely cross the halfway line for the rest of the game.

  4. Yep, it's been on the cards for a few years now since that great title winning team of Naybet, Mauro Silva, Djalminha, Roy Maakay and............Walter Panidani all got old and the money ran out.

That said, considering all the league once again got twatted by Real Madrid and Barca, how did the 3rd relegated team go down with 43 points when the prem was much more competitive and yet SHA went down with 39 points?

  5. He's alright.

Judging from this season, Houllier dosen't rate him so next season under a new manager is going to be really crucial.

I don't ever seen him getting 15 + goals a season for us but with his all round game I do think he could turn into that link up striker we don't really have, one who can drop back into midfield and get the ball there. He was doing that for the under 21s in their last game.

  6. I think he'll work best in a 3 man central midfield.

Not sure he's best as the advanced player e.g. in the hole but maybe as the inbetween one like Alonso to get the passing moves going and keep our wide players in the game?

I'm sort of thinking like the classic 3 man central midfield Liverpool had that wiped the floor with us 5-0 at Anfield a few seasons ago. Mascherano holding, Alonso dropping deep and picking up the ball and laying it on to Gerrard just off the striker.

  7. Yep, we really need to get him signing an extension this summer otherwise we'll have the Ashley Young scenario with him next season as he goes into the last 18 months of his deal.

I like it when he cuts inside as i think he has better game intelligence than Young and superior passing. Given Albrighton has hardly played in the last few games, I'd give him player of the year.

  8. Very intersting weekend.

Gladbach demolish Koln 5-1, I still somehow think they'll get out of it, dunno why.

Another dreadful result for Stuttgart, I think them and St Pauli will be the bottom two and Magath will save Wolfsburg in the play offs.

    And what about the top.

Suddenly Dortmund are faltering and the lead from Leverkusen is only 5 points with 5 games left.

  9. Macdonald knew him from working with him in the Ireland set up and at the time he signed, we'd just beaten West Ham convincingly so Mac still had a good shout at getting the job so at the time it was a resonable assumption from Ireland Mac would be the next manager.

I assume given the loan he can't play next weekend so with just 6 games left after that, I can't see Newcastle wanting him really.
