  1. With Houllier, although it was a shit season I was willing to give him time, because I think what he wanted to achieve with the squad would have took time and he needed to have players at his disposal who want to play the same way he wanted his players to play. I honestly believe had he stayed there would have been a huge change of players at Aston Villa over the summer.

    This.

I can't see how anyone can make a legitimate argument for Mcleish over Houllier.

Houllier got a lot of unfair stick last season.... and people saying they didn't want him OR Mcleish - well WHO DO YOU want?

  2. It would be pointless sacking him mid-season unless we have tapped up a world-class manager.

However sacking him at the end of the season so long as they have someone lined up that the fans would like and has a vision and a method would be acceptable for me.

What I don't want to see is Mcleish given lots of money to waste in January, thankfully I'm fairly confident this won't happen.

  3. And who cares what a few deluded fantasists think they could see happening in their crystal **** balls under GH!

:lol::lol: Whatever we were seeing in our crystal balls was far more exciting than what we can see now, which is basically nothingness.

I will say one thing in defence of Mcleish though - Ashley Young. We don't have him now, I think many of us are guilty of under-estimating the affect his departure had on us.

I watch a lot of football as it's my job and one thing that always strikes me is how one player can have such a dramatic affect on a team. Liverpool's demise has been put down to many things but the loss of a fit Steven Gerrard was essentially the main reason - he carried them for years. Chelsea last season were flying looked like they were going to walk the league but then Drogba gets injured/malaria and they fall to pieces.

However this doesn't excuse Mcleish's lack of vision, lack of blueprint, lack of knowledge in attacking cohesion or how he wants them to play. In a way I feel bad for him tonight from the sounds of it he tried to play tippy-tappy style (or pass and move as he calls it) but it comes across like he doesn't have the knowledge or know-how to implement it.

  4. These dinosaur managers like Mcleish and King Kenny have had their day, they offer nothing the games has changed. We are already seeing young/coach types managers turning up like AVB at Chelsea and of course Pep at Barca. This is the route we should have gone down...

I could see this vision with Houllier he champions all things modern despite being old...

I could see this with Martinez..(to a lesser extend admittingly)

I can't see it with Mcleish I just don't get the decision to employ him in the first place. What is his vision? What did Randy see in him??

  5. I will agree with those who said Bolton's team wasn't all that shit; Eagles for example has always been class..

But we are undoubtedly shit. This result will come as a surprise to no one who has been watching our previous matches.

We all knew this anyway but the board made a big mistake with Mcleish.

  6. MatKendrick Mat Kendrick

Neat ball from Holden to Steinsson in behind defence. Delfouneso got back well to clear

    Sounds all too familiar.

    what, you talking shite?

Go and play with your toys little boy.

Don't get condescending just because you threw yours out the pram.

Leave the adults to discuss the football please.

  8. From that article re: Gabby

Houllier defended McAllister, saying: "I was a bit surprised that one of the players was having a go at his training sessions.

"Because, truly, he is a modern, very up-to-date and very good coach. In fact, some players really improved.

"We could see some progress in Ashley Young and Stewart Downing in the way they played and the way they even increased their technical abilities."

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Spot on there I said this all along Ash definitely improved last season, and we all know Downing did.

Under Houllier we were going forward.

Under Mcleish we are going nowhere.

Great to hear from GED though  Hope he's well.

  9. Can't blame Dazza for today. Yes he missed a sitter but we all know what he's about. I think everyone thought Petrov was going to shoot and his cut-back was hit too hard.

The problem with the team goes way beyond Bent missing a "sitter".
