Clearly Samuelson is very good at what he does (allegedly)
He's not convicted of any financial crime as far as I know

Well Xia has gone back home. I would doubt he is hunting for a new CEO.
Maybe he found one already?

It’s a real shame we won’t get to reinvest this money because ordinarily I think most people would bite Leicester’s hand off for £40m (plus potential sell on) otherwise. I can’t see them bidding anything near that in reality.
I think you are right

The problem is mainly that while these thing can happen it's not he most likely scenario.
Leicester is far more likely to go down than to win the PL - even if they did the latter most recently. Making it with the available ressources would be a much bigger feat than making it this year - it's not just a reshuffle, fresh manager and play the youth. Its could be - but not most likely.

No it didn't, failing to provide a link to an article did.
I saw that later - just remembered a warning
It's been close to a year since I made that post.

Thanks for the heads up

Round was brought in when Irvine left to become a manager and never convinced. Irvine did a much better job.
My opinions on Wyness have already landed me a warning on here.

Being an Everton supporter with a lot of time for Villa I've read this latest discussion with great interest.
My view is that both clubs have a "bandwith" - Villas currently being from mid-table Championship at worst to top 7 in the PL at best within 24 months. Quite a huge spread of 20+ league placings, but given luck, finances and players gelling to a team not out of the question - and vice versa. Evertons range is narrower - probably 14th-3rd - and, as each place upwards becomes progressively harder, more likely 9th-5th. So Villa can get on par with Everton within a couple of season, but it will not be very likely to happen. The continuous flow of income will be so different that FFP-rules will prevent Villa from closing the gap on transfers and salaries within the 24 months - making the on-field results less likely to happen. A lot of the discussion seem to confuse possible and likely - I'm not sure whether there's any real disagreement here.

In the Championship?
In the PL - haven't seen anything on the Championship.

Spending big in the Championship seems to be less of a guarantee of success, if there's any such thing, than in The Premiership, where it is more or less vital. I haven't looked at the stats but I would imagine with few exceptions, that there is a direct correlation between money spent and league position in the premier league. I don't think, certainly not in our case, that the same correlation can be applied to this division.
Down here it seems to be more to do with coaching and team spirit.
Not a strong correlation - but a strong one with wages

Round, Wyness and Samuelson. An unholy trinity of self interest.

New scout for Scandinavia starting soon. A familiar name

I don't know mate, the uglier they are the harder they try! I'd hit it, I'm not picky!
I agree to some extent - but the best experiences were still with the pretty ones.

It sounds like a good endorsement of the man considering we have an owner that is willing to spend.
Cech was another, Diarra and Drogba, to name some off my memory. If you have the cash it might be a great fit

I still class David Unsworth as a Villa man
He's adored as a coach and former player at EFC - some called for him as a manager after his 1 game as caretaker :-D

Could have had a great team with the players we kept mate, never mind signed.
He found Essien and more than a handful of players who turned out great years before they were household names. But it's history :-)

You do know that Round has bee named doing a similar role at Man City. Round overseas the club Ian Atkins is a scout they'll have little input to style of play.
I believe I've given my view on this a bit earlier in this thread

Just realised you/re an Everton fan. Any idea why Atkins got sacked? In terms of transfer business I put Everton up there as one of the best consider the budget over the years. Surely Atkins played a big part in this although Moyes would get the credit?
14 out of 16 scouts were sacked when Koeman came in, so wouldn't put too much into it. Atkins is most famous for the players he found, but EFC couldn't afford... Not a bad scout, but scouting realistic targets should be a parameter. But EFC were even more in the s*it at the time, financially. Could have had a great team with the players we didn't sign ;-)

Maybe thats why it took so long to appoint him. They discussed this type of thing?
Maybe. From my knowledge of Round he'll be adaptable to the level of transparent as an assistant - how he will work as a TD remains to be seen. No doubt who's the stronger personality of the two, which might make Rounds role redundant

I thought manager decides on style on football?
I'm sure he does, but usually the support functions are set accordingly - not given in advance. If Bruce has a different philosophy they might not be contributing as much as expected or to their potential
-
Steve Round and Ian Atkins - unsure which style of football will be pursued. Atkins got sacked by Everton, BTW contrary to the official story
-
Uninspiring but safe choice.
Will never get direct promotion IMO, but might get to the play offs, which given the start to the season would be very good.
