  1. Just watched the interview with him on AVTV - it's one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

At one point Petrov pops in for a bit of banter.

Delph was already a big favourite of mine, that interview really sealed it!

  2.

Karim at No.8 is annoying. Really don't like the suggestion he is a starter. Even if it is just the fact it's the same as last year.

It's just a number. The squad numbers aren't a list of the squad players in order of how much Lambert rates them.

    35 - 42 they are.

  3. I don't know what was more painfull to try and watch: that awful live feed by AVTV or the performace of the players.

Basically what we have learned from pre-season so far: our youth/reserve teams are worse than a Conference team.

I had flashback of Villa vs. Bradford tonight.

  4.

I'm expecting a MOTM performance from Woodward otherwise he can go and join the bomb squad.

    Is this toungue in cheek?

    1. He's been pretty good for us

    2. You really think we'd chuck a player based on a friendly performance?!

    Woodward =/= Westwood

    Now that makes sense.

  6. According to PhysioRoom - http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php - which is usually well-informed, we have 6 injured, second highest in the premier league (only Man U are worse).

2.gif ASTON VILLA 6 J Bowery Knock no return date       A Weimann Hip/Thigh Injury no return date       J Okore Hamstring Injury no return date       A Tonev Hip/Thigh Injury no return date       G Agbonlahor Knee Injury no return date       C N'Zogbia Calf/Shin Injury no return date

So they're not recording Albrighton, Helenius or Bennett as injures and have thrown in N'Zogbia who you omitted.

The "no return date" info is standard for every player on the site at present as I guess clubs are not giving estimates in pre-season.

At least, according to this, Arsenal also have 6!

  7. Andi Weimann faces up to a fortnight on the sidelines with a painful hip problem after Aston Villa’s pre-season injury toll rose to EIGHT players.

The Austrian striker limped away wincing after being hurt by a crunching foul midway through the first-half of Saturday’s 2-2 friendly draw against Wycombe at Adams Park.

He reported to Bodymoor Heath to have the injury assessed on Sunday, along with Jordan Bowery who suffered back trouble at the weekend.

Paul Lambert is also having to contend with injuries to Nicklas Helenius (back) and Gabby Agbonlahor (knee) which have decimated his strikeforce.

Helenius and Agbonlahor were left out of the squad at Wycombe, along with Joe Bennett (knee), Jores Okore (hamstring), Aleksandar Tonev (thigh) and Marc Albrighton (unspecified).

Lambert suggested Weimann could be out for up to two weeks, saying: “He’s got a sore one, so I need to see how that goes. It’s a sore back and a sore hip.

“Hopefully he’ll be okay in – I don’t know how long – in the next few weeks or so.”

Bowery’s injury, at a time when Villa had used up all of their substitutes meant the claret and blues finished the game against Lambert’s former club with 10 men. Lambert admits that the

various strains are placing pressure on his new-look squad and hampering their pre-season preparations with the Premier League campaign less than a month away.

“We’ve got too many at the minute,” said Lambert. “There’s a few knocks we could do without and that’s a disappointing thing.

“Joe Bennett hurt his calf in training on Friday and Nicklas Helenius hurt his back in Germany. Gabby Agbonlahor is injured, Jores Okore, Alex Tonev and Marc Albrighton are back at the training ground.

“They’re little minor strains but they’re annoying things that are not helping.

“It’s still early. They’re not major, but we just can’t take a chance on them at the moment.

"There’s a few back at the training round that we’ll hopefully get back in the next couple of weeks or so and we’ll see how they fare. Once we get them all back fit we’ll be pretty strong.”

    Where was this from?

  8. The first was his fault.  He is out of position in the back line before the cross comes in, which you could see put Vlaar and Guzan off and thus out of position themselves, thus the bizarre goal beating Guzan.

  9. Strange to put N'Zogbia in this bracket. Granted he isn't amazing but he seems to be in Lambert's plans (would be in Germany but for injury), and Lambert seems to be a man to seriously trust when it comes to judging a player. Particualrly a player's commitment.

  10. Just watching the interview with him on AVTV.  Seems to be a genuninly intelligent and articulate guy.  Really impressed with how well he knows his own strengths and 'what he can bring to the team'. Like the player a lot so far.

  11. What is the point of a 3 yr contract extension?? If he has a good season next year will have to be trying to get him to sign another next one again! Just get a nice long deal done.

  12. The only problem here was not having a player on the front post. We didn't put a player on the front post all get (just Delph further forward). I never understand not setting up with a man on each post .... Always an accident waiting to happen!

  13. I've been interested in Delph's progress since he signed (as have many). I've kept an eye on the fans opinion on here over the past few years. I think this season he has really begun to show his potential.

This is mostly because he has had his most consistently injury free season since his first. He seems to have consistently put in good performances and been an asset to the team. I think he's getting to the point where he will be first name on the team sheet before long.

Given a bit more time and experience I actually think he can progress further into the 'Milner role' - being more box to box, scoring and creating - remember his trade mark at Leeds was netting those long-shots from midfield. He starts doing that a bit more for us with his forward runs and he'll be the player we all hoped he'd be.

I also really like how passionate about the club and his football he seems to be. I think he'll be a faithful servant for years to come.
