I think VT as a collective, could manage to manufacture this with ease… some one tweets it and the rest back it up, liking it, commenting, at tagging people, retweeting, reaggregating it. All the fun Twitter stuff and do the same on the other socials

Then the barrel scrapers like Brum mail and football insider would pick it up and then BBC will via their gossip page, and then others will go with it, maybe talksport and then sky.

but tbh, as funny as that would be, it’s effort we can’t be arsed with.

Speak for yourself. This sounds like fun while we have no real links...

He's obviously hinting at that - Dortmund press deny it and now he's recycling TalkSport. He doesn't know anything about our transfer dealings.

Didn't he break the news of our new left back last week?

  3. The club, for the first time in years, has some stability. Not perfect by any means but certainly more competent managers throughout the club vs. the previous establishment.

Things aren't going to plan but so many people here are suggesting we are already relegated.

We aren't relegated and even if that becomes a reality, DC (and the other managers of the club) are more than capable of owning it, learning from it and winning the championship next year.

I do not want another manager merry-go-round, players leaving for a fraction they should because they don't fit the new system and a huge churn in backroom staff. This doesn't help us long-term.

Looks from comments from Lille today that they're resigned to losing Leao, would be surprised if it was to us though with the other clubs that are interested

One hell of a statement from the club if we were in for him. Even if it breaks our record, he fits the bill as someone who could become better and more valuable in a position we need cover

True. I don't think we will do so either.

But the question was, what do we do in the meantime with these players that we still have if they are not even good enough to be backup?

I think the club have taken steps to ensure these fringe players remain just that. Keep in mind the window isn't closed

If we could him fit, he’d be great for us, we managed it with Martin Laursen

I wouldn't compare him to Laursen.

Laursen's wages would have been more aligned with the rest of the team. We want to avoid having a pool of players on high wages because then the whole squad wants the same. When MON left our wages were 86% of revenue and we all know what happened in subsequent years.

Laursen had injuries but played v well when he was getting his game. Sturidge has been poor when he has played recently.

I just don't get it. Why take the risk? Lets take a risk on a young up and coming for a fraction of the wages who isn't injury prone and might net us money in the future.

I'd hate for him to be brilliant for us

That's an odd statement. If City are buying him back then chances are he's done brilliantly for us. If it gets this transfer over the line, then go with the buy back clause.

I'm normally the one saying be calm but have to admit I'm starting to get a little worried.

We've done decent business at some good prices so far but we've still got a huge amount to do.

I think absolute maximum we've got left to spend is about £70m without player sales and that isn't going to go far when the starting price for everyone seems to be £20m these days.

I figure we still need GK, CB x 2, CM, RM, FW as a minimum so if I'm close on the above figure its going to take some dealing, which is perhaps why things appear to be quite at the moment. Although that is often when we seem to spring a signing.

It would be good to see Suso come up with a bargain or two from overseas, we need him to be earning his keep so far we've not seen much that would appear to have his influence.

There is a lack of reliable transfer news because, as we have already demonstrated, the club seem capable of withholding their plans (eg Jota). We all want signings immediately but in reality that doesn't always happen and we know the various reasons why.

Potentially we have 5 players lined up to sign next week and the press haven't gotten wind of any of it. Sure, that's unlikely...

The lack of news is frustrating and worrying people but everyone has faith the club are doing all they can to get the bodies in. It's been acknowledged by the club that players are needed.

So my point is that everyone should relax.

    Judgement dates IMO:

    - Players we have 1st day of training (we have done OK?)

    - Players we have 1st game of season (TBC)

    - Players we have when window closes (TBC)

Well we've just been given 66m with parachute payments to come.

Spend the lot I say. Let's go mad.

We should start by giving the 200 odd people that were let go their jobs back

    No. We really don't.

I want Moyes. He's my first choice by some distance. But that would be pretty cringeworthy.

We also have a banner every week saying "Lerner Out"

    I don't think banners work!

These threads are always hilarious. A supporter buyout at this level would end up a lot worse than what we are going through now. Let this one go people.

You're probably right but isn't it the point of the forum to discuss the club? What's best, what isn't? Potential signings? etc...

The idea of the people of Birmingham raising the kind of money it would take to buy a club the size of Aston Villa is absurd. Then comes the running costs. It's just not going to happen. Ever.

You may be right but that was never my original point. Please re-read my comments.

The discussion is whether the purchase of Aston Villa by supporters is possible. It's unlikely, agreed, but not impossible.

I will also make the point (yet again) that the buyers of Aston Villa do not need to be located in Birmingham. There are supporters world wide and some, I expect, are wealthy.

Also, the cost associated with buying Villa and running the club is not 1 billion. This is an assumption with no evidence but to suggest it costs 1 billion to be competitive, in my opinion, is wrong.

Because those two teams play in League 2, where it would cost no more than ~£10m to buy them and the yearly upkeep would only be a couple of million.

We're talking about a club that is up for sale for £150m-£200m, and has a yearly upkeep of ~£75m-£100m. Can the fans stump up ~£225m-300m just to run the club for one year?

Curious to know the source for all of those figures quoted. The last one doesn't make sense to me - does Aston Villa have zero revenue? Are we really losing £300m per year? No wonder Lerner wants out.

  14. 2 minutes ago, One For The Road said:

True, but if we rounded up Castle Vale, Chelmsley Wood, Erdington and a few of the other Beverley Hills/Monte Carlo type areas across the gold pathed streets of Birmingham then I'm sure we could raise a billion pounds in no time...

    Seriously, what an absurd idea.

I have no idea if you're suggesting the 1 billion figure is absurd or the idea of buying Aston Villa?

    Which teams in England?

We would need a billion pounds to compete at premier league level. Where are you getting that?

Portsmouth and Wycombe to name two but I'm not sure why that's relevant. Is it harder to buy an English team than it is a German team, for example?

Where am I getting a billion? Where are you getting a billion?

    Have Leicester spent a billion?

If you have a point, I look forward to hearing it  ;-)
