  1. Maybe it boils down to what people want to watch in a Football team.

I personally love to see someone finding the gaps that Ireland does, with a lot of creativity. Merson used to be my favourite player for example. Ireland's new found graft has added to his game as well.

Some people however, love watching players like Chris Herd. I think he's useful but that's not the top of my list.

In all fairness, I'm probably spouting absolute sh*t as it is a Friday afternoon, but I'm hoping you can see what I'm getting at!!!!

  2. 90% don't hate Ireland, I think a lot of people want him to do well. I think that's why he won. These awards in my memory rarely relate to on the pitch performances.

Did, Baz. Did. Last August nobody liked him. Are you suggesting he won Fans Player of the Year because the fans want him to do well? I don't understand that, I really don't.

  3. Fans player of the year means jack shit. Gabby and Bent and even Given played a bigger role IMO.

How can it mean jack shit? The most votes for any player were for Stephen Ireland? Why? Because he was a class above anyone else in that team, and also added hard work to his game.

Was he bollocks, and neither was Barry when he used to turn up to collect his annual award.

Seems to me that more people thought he was a class above anyone else in that team, than anyone else that was playing? Or am I missing a trick here? Considering August last year about 90% of Villa fans hated Stephen Ireland, I'd say he must have done something right to play half the season and win that?

  4. He will shine under Lambert, give him at least half the season to prove it.

You'll be lucky. Some people would still slag him off for a single misplaced pass in a game, even if he ran 80 yards to get the ball back, took on the entire opposition and looped it over the keeper from 30 yards.

  5. He has a long way to go for me

He's had £7m in wages out the club and 2 good games so far

He needs to take a pay cut for future harmony within the squad

Why would he need to take a pay cut for future harmony? Surely the same therefore goes for Bent, who does about 20% of the work that Ireland does, which at the moment has the same result Goals/Assists wise.

Very confused as to why you dislike him so much. Usually the sheep that follow into scapegoating, then follow when the vast majority have changed their opinion.

  7. I seriously doubt Ireland will be getting a new contract here unless he agrees to have his wages cut by a significant amount.

I have it on very good authority that if he performs as well as expected, he will be given a new contract on the same money. We're a lot better off now and can easily afford what he is on and we'd be happy to keep him as one of 3 or 4, shall we say, 'marquee' players.

  8. We were just inside the Penalty Box on the right hand side. I just remember some lad getting thrown into our row by a dark haired bloke who I could have sworn had an away top on (this came from the front). This just before half time. Then they got taken out, the dark haired bloke came back and started speaking to the lads on the other side of the stairs about it. Then he disappeared and the lad who got thrown about appeared 20 mins into second half.

  9. This 'langleylad' thing... Was this the right hand side of the away end about half way back? And did 'The Bloke' have the away top on? I can't remember seeing the name 'langleylad' as I was plastered but something similar happened there.

  10. Yeah I said earlier it was pyjama like, nice to sleep in on a cold night

There is also the ASTON VILLA 1874 print down the left sleeve vertically which seems like some random after thought

And theres some silly macron logo on the right shoulder

Some of this gear is bloody awful

I bet they love it when you walk into the Villa Shop. :|

  11. Lol @ Channel 5 doco.

Thanks BLF.... If i can get to London Euston by 8 with the Virgin train and catch a cab to Heathrow ... i can easily make a flight at 10pm ? Im just concerned about getting lost in Euston to try catch the Heathrow Express!

If i try make the 7:30 flight at BHX... i will have no luggage.. i can check in online.. game finishes at 6... i catch a cab from VP to Airport.. still wont make it by 6:30?

Sidenote: If we lose.. i will be in deep depression! Nah im sure i will just enjoy being in the stadium.. enjoying the atmosphere.. and if we lose we lose.. but we wont!

You'll certainly get lost if you try and catch the Heathrow Express from Euston! You've still got to make it to Paddington. Whatever you do, don't get fooled into using the Tube. That journey is nothing short of a nightmare.

Game will finish about 10 to 6, but traffic getting away from the ground would make it extremely tight getting into the terminal etc on time.

The atmosphere in the ground should be decent. The West Brom derby has really picked up over the last couple of seasons and hopefully a decent start to the season will mean the optimism will carry over into a rocking Holte End.

Whatever you decide to do, good luck!! I'm sure you'll find something that works well.

  12. Bit of a scramble to get to New Street for 6.40!

Surely someone on here could help with that.

I would offer to drop into town but I will be working after the game.

Aston 18:05 Birmingham New Street 18:12

Aston 18:20 Birmingham New Street 18:28 (Could be a lot closer)

Still, a brisk walk to Aston station could easily get the 18:05 train.

Edit - With regards to the '360 seconds challenge', I have made Platform 5 Euston to Platform 12 St Pancras in 6 minutes before. It was a rush but couldn't miss that train as it's 1 an hour to Margate.

A real 'Fag behind the ear, First to the doors, Tickets in hand' job.

  13. Also, I don't think people quite understand what shisha is. He's not like a certain Centre Half of ours who I see most days buying 20 fags on his way to training..! I doubt he goes home every night and sits there smoking it.

    Dunne by any chance?

Nope - it's the Hoofball Gold Medalist that is Mr. Collins.

Another reason why I don't think that pair should be at the back for us.

  14. Superman all the way for me.

To those saying that he's a 'nutjob' for lying about his Grandmothers dying (it was only two by the way, he never made up a third), he admits this was a silly mistake. Course it was, but his Wife had just had a miscarraige and he probably didn't know where his head was at.

  15. As you come out of the away end and you turn left. Follow that road for 5 mins and there is a big pub on the left. Lots of standing room outside and Mcdonalds next to it.

Cheers for that adamrob69. @WMPVillaFC have tweeted that this pub (The Beech) is an away pub, will look at that if nowhere else.

  16. My usual target pub would be your typical ale house. However, the crowd I'm going with for this is more of a 'Great Pub Fulla Villa' crowd than wanting to get served at will!
