  1. I follow Feyenoord. He has been excellent since returning. It does highlight the huge gulf between the two leagues that he looks such an accomplished technical player in that league yet so lacking in that department with us.

Playing with better players around him helps as well.

  2. Why was he only signed in a 3 year deal in the first place. We usually do 4.

Vlaar was quite a gamble to due to age and injury history i suspect.

He's had 2 cruciate ligament injuries (1 in 2007 and 1 in 2008) and it was quite risky to hand him a 4 year deal in a much more physically demanding league than the Eredivisie.

  3.

What I find sad is that this could be the last time I see a lot of these players at a World Cup.

Kuyt is 33 now, don't see him playing another one, have my doubts about the Euros.

Sneijder, Van Persie and Robben are all 30 now, at 34 they may be around but it may be pushing it.

Van Dar Vaart who missed out is 31, don't expect to see him at another, nor Heitinga who I had a lot of respect for at Ajax.

If this isn't the end of an era, we're on the verge of it.

The Dutch have many good players coming through, maybe not upfront but certainly in the defensive and midfield positions.

They've got Jürgen Locadia up front, he's got great potential. Only 20 though, so see how he goes.

Locadia is a poor player with a poor mentality. He scored a fair bit last season but so would most strikers for PSV.

Richairo Zivkovic is a better prospect. He scored 10 goals last season as a 16/17 year old in the Eredivisie for FC Groningen and has just signed for Ajax for 3 million Euro's. We lack a bit of strength in the youth academies for a real striker prospect. Some striker that are mid-twenties have failed in Europe (Luuk de Jong at Gladbach, Van Wolfswinkel at Norwich and Dost at Wolfsburg) so it's difficult.

We do have a great bunch of young winger coming through with Memphis Depay, Jean-Paul Boetius, Quincy Promes and Bilal Basacikoglu.

  4. Vlaar is named in the Dutch prelim squad for the World Cup. 7 players still have to be dropped.

Vlaar is certainly going to be a starting XI player at the World Cup. Holland will probably be playing a new system 5-3-2 at the World Cup and Vlaar will be the most central defender with Stefan de Vrij on the right side and Bruno Martins Indi (maybe Kongolo) on the left side of the 3 central defenders.

Goalkeepers: Jasper Cillessen (Ajax), Tim Krul (Newcaste United), Michel Vorm (Swansea City), Jeroen Zoet (PSV).

Defenders: Stefan De Vrij (Feyenoord), Daley Blind (Ajax), Daryl Janmaat (Feyenoord), Terence Kongolo (Feyenoord), Bruno Martins Indi (Feyenoord), Karim Rekik (PSV), Joël Veltman (Ajax), Paul Verhaegh ( FC Augsburg), Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa), Patrick van Aanholt (Vitesse).

Midfielders: Jordy Clasie (Feyenoord), Leroy Fer (Norwich City), Jonathan De Guzman (Swansea City), Nigel de Jong (AC Milan), Wesley Sneijder (Galatasaray), Tonny Trindade de Vilhena (Feyenoord), Rafael van der Vaart (Hamburger SV), Georginio Wijnaldum (PSV).

Attackers: Jean-Paul Boëtius (Feyenoord), Memphis Depay (PSV), Klaas-Jan Huntelaar (Schalke 04), Dirk Kuijt (Fenerbahçe), Jeremain Lens (Dinamo Kiev), Robin van Persie (Manchester United), Arjen Robben (Bayern München), Quincy Promes (FC Twente).

  5. Bacuna is not a very good signing. I don't want to bring you guys down but he's very average and certainly not better than Holman. Bacuna has been criticised quite a few times this season because of his mentality towards the team and manager. He's quite full of himself and arrogant and can go over the top with tackles sometimes.

He prefers to play as a number 10 behind the strikers but can operate in right midfield as well.

    Mid-table Championship player at best.

  6. He's after Alfred Finnbogason of SC Heerenveen.

  7. Vlaar was kept on the bench for the full 90 mins tonight. Holland played with their youngest starting line up in a 100 years (average age of 22). Dominated the Italians but Italy scored an equaliser in the 91st minute.

  8. except for RVP that doesnt look a great Dutch team without the big names like Sneijder, Rooben and Van der Vaart though that team hasnt really worked either

Well, a World Cup Final (2010) isn't too bad is it  ;)

Louis van Gaal is making a shift towards the next generation. Sneijder and Robben would normally play but they haven't played a lot for their clubs. Van der Vaart's role seems to be over with the National Team.

  9. On the bench tonight for The Netherlands vs Italy.

    Starting Line-Up.

    Tim Krul (Newcastle United)
    Daryl Janmaat (Feyenoord)

  10. Even Everton are splashing the cash and they are skint. €10m on Dutch international Leroy Fer. But it's ok everyone, we will be fine don't you worry... Funny this is now even Lambert knows he needs a few players, said it today. Randy needs to stump up. The situation right now is pathetic.

He is a fantastic signing for them (would have been for Villa as well). He is very similar to Fellaini. Only difference is that Fer is two footed and Fellaini is stronger in the air than Fer.

Villa should try to get this guy from Anderlecht. Started as a holding midfielder but is playing regurlarly now at central defence. He is a beast of a player.

  11. Leerdam is going to my local club Vitesse!

He is rubbish anyway. Good news for Villa that.

Young winger Jeroen Lumu who was linked to Villa two days ago on Skysports has gone on trial at Anderlecht now. They are maybe going to swap him with one of the Anderlecht players (Molins) who has gone on trial with Willem II.

  12. I very much doubt he's on 30k, he certainly was on a lot more at Chelsea

He earns 2 million Euro's per season at Lille. I don't think he was on a lot more at Chelsea. They signed him when he was pretty young and only renewed his contract once. He was probably on similar wages at Chelsea as well.

  13. Don't think he is worth it myself Feyenoord, seemed to be a great man to score a 5th goal in a 5-0 win for Chelsea, wouldn't like to see him here myself.

27 years old, 156 Premier league games, 36 goals and 25 assists for Chelsea is not bad considering he came on as a sub many times. I think he can do well for Villa on the left wing. He's quick and good on the counter, drags in two defenders and would link up well with Benteke I guess.

  14. One for the future.

Well, he's a prospect but certainly not one of the best young prospects in Holland. He's not a starter yet for the worst team in the Eredivisie and he's very very lightweight. He's a left winger but can also play right wing. I believe he was part of the Euro U17 team that became European champions this year but I don't think he was a starter there as well. He really is a player that needs to grow in the Eredivisie for a few years before he's physically able to cope with the Premier League.

    2011/12 Willem II 8 1 Eerste divisie 2012/13 Willem II 7 1 Eredivisie Total: 15 2

  15. He is played right back for Belgium because he very good defensively and there is noone better. if they want someone strong on the ball who can make a run, they play Gillet.

Strange to hear you say Alderweireld is a poor defender. he may not be of the same class vertonghen and vermaelen were, but he's still a solid player

He's been in the Ajax team for years now and hasn't progressed one bit. He is not strong enough to cope in the Premier League and always looks insecure when Ajax play in Europe or against the top 5 teams in the Eredivisie.

  16. Interesting. Yeah, I think the biggest attraction of him would be the fact that he could probably be had for a small-ish fee and we are probably in for a CB this window. I certainly wouldn't mind taking one of Feyenoord's CBs, but I'm sure you guys are sick of us by now and won't even answer if we came after either of those two. If I could have a pick of any CB in the Dutch league though, it'd be Toby Alderweireld. :)

Alderweireld is also a poor poor defender. He was the biggest talent at Ajax several years ago but Vertonghen has completely outclassed him when they started playing together. Alderweireld is physically not very strong and his position is also questionable at times. He is quite strong on the ball and is therefore regurlarly playing for Belgium at right back.

I'm also quite sure that he wouldn't really be interested in joining Villa, just like our defenders De Vrij and Martins Indi. De Vrij and Indi have the quality to play for a much bigger team and Alderweireld has the name and is at the right club to transfer to a bigger team than Villa.

The only central defender in the Eredivisie that could add something to Villa and might be interested is Guram Kashia of Vitesse. He's a solid performer for them and club captain. He will be 26 years old in April.

Patrick van Aanholt would solve your left back problems as well. He is also playing for Vitesse but on loan from Chelsea. He is 22 years old.

And if you have a bit of extra money to spend for an attacking midfielder you should definitely get Filip Djuricic. He would be perfect to play around Benteke. Djuricic is just an absolute genius of a footballer. He should only cost around 4 million pounds as well. That's what Heerenveen are asking since his contract expires in 2014. He just turned 21 years of age and is already a regular for Serbia as well.

  17. Ive said it before and will say again, why do people keep pushing guidetti so much? I've never seen him play as I'd imagine most people haven't (or at least not on a consistent basis)... But yet he is meant to be our saviour!! He is no where near the city first team, and not played in prem and never set Dutch league on fire, so genuine question why will he be a great signing? (loan or permanent)

Guidetti never set the Eredivisie on fire?

He scored 20 goals in 23 games including hattricks against top teams Ajax, FC Twente and Vitesse (Current numbers 3,2 and 5 in Eredivisie).

If you want to make a fair point you should talk about the serious virus that he has just recovered from. He was diagnosed with http://en.wikipedia....–Barré_syndrome . It's way too much of a risk to take him on board right now. He will start his first game since April against Reading U21 on Monday. He would be a great addition for next season if he can prove his form over the next 6 months.
