  1. Not keen on the signing myself but the major positive to come out the the Lescott approach is that Tim has identified CB as an area that needs strengthening.  I was worried our defensive signings might be done but this gives me hope.

  2. Veretout is a DM so I guess that would dismiss any cambiasso links if true

I've read he is a box to box CM player but have to admit i'd never heard of him until about 15 minutes ago.  Seems to have a fair few assists over the last few seasons

  3. L'Equipe ran a story yesterday about Veretout saying he had an offer from an unamed English club whilst Liverpool and Spurs were also sniffing - but his reps didn't want the spurs move due to too much competition there.  I wonder if he likes the idea of walking straight into our starting 11 - If so there might be something in this

  4. Maybe being a bit cynical, but I don't think he really cares much about going to a club in the Champs League/Europe. I think he just wants more money.

I don't get that impression, I just think he wants to be battling at the top end of the table instead of the bottom and who can blame him.

  5. Marca are running a report this morning that Athletico Madrid are focussing on bringing back Felipe Luis to fill the LB.  Lets hope that's true!

  6. Exciting signing. I don't expect him to instantly solve our longstanding LB problem but looks promising for the future.

Do you seriously think this is one for the future!?

You don't spend £10m on someone who won't go straight into the team. Amavi will be expected to solve the left back problem instantly.

  7. This is a blow however.....

The one thing we have lacked for far too long is goals from centre midfield.  I'm not talking 20 goals a season but say 8 or so goals from the centre of the park.   Whilst Delph is a fantastic player he wasn't giving us that.  Finding those players is tough but like a few others I'm not too disheartened by him leaving providing he is adequately replaced (Gueye is eplacing Cleverly) by someone who can chip in to our god awful scoring stats!

  8. We are well covered in numbers for right back but not quality. Would folk really be happily going into the new season with Hutton or Bacuna at RB!? I like Bacuna but not as an out an out RB. This is a position we need filling.

  9. Ba out

    Carroll in

    Common sense

Really? i would say any manager that sells a happy Ba to accomodate Carroll has zero common sense!

But then again you do think it would be common sense to replace Warnock with David Murphy :winkold:

  10. I said about two weeks ago we haven't done enough in the market and time is running out

Two weeks on Nothing and injuries are mounting !

As soon as Lambert gets back he needs to get a wiggle on or we will be bare bones again

If you look at the done deals for premier league clubs you'll see only 3 or 4 clubs have been busier with their buying than us. Time is not running out, infact the transfer market has barely got out of 1st gear. I imagine transfers involving agents and millions of pounds are not always the most straightforward of things. Having 3 new players in the squad in the middle of July is actualy quite refeshing for us! Have a little patience and save the panic until the transfer deadline.

  11. Being quite young at the time the best signing for me was Stanley Victor Collymore. I remember him parading around VP in the Sky Blue AST Computers away kit (one of my fav Villa strips of recent times). Its probably the best feeling I've had when unveiling a signing. A superstar striker joining his boyhood heroes, a fair amount of money paid and the grand unveiling at VP. Everything seemed perfect to me..... didn't quite work out as planned though did it!

  12. I would suggest that the first signing may be a player many of us have never heard of before.

Think you might be right. Its interesting scrolling through todays huge SportingLife 'Paper Talk' section and the only links the papers have come up with are 3 players we have been linked with many times already in NRC, Young and Bellamy. I know its only speculation but it seems the papers havn't a clue who out targets are - and i'm begining to think that neither do we. I'm predicting a few surprises.

  13. Dean Ashton? Cover? We're not Real Madrid.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

What a pair of frankly ridicules comments.. he has played 16 games in the Premiership, completely and totally unproven at this level... Good player, yes, but lets no go overboard with the superlatives, it's embarrassing!!

You seem to be forgetting his premier league appearences with Norwich. He's actually played 32 games in the top flight and has not only scored goals but his all round game has been great. Also bear in mind that this was playing for Norwich and West ham.

West ham paid £7.25m for him and it will take that amount to get him at least. At he time of his injury he was just about about to lead the line for england so i think the two comments are justified - you dont seriously expect RL to splash out about £8m on a player who would only provide cover??
