  1. Average points for a Championship 6th placed finish is 73.8 points.  Therefore we need 30 points to hit this.

10 wins from final 13 games should get us 6th place, especially considering this season is a below average one for points gained.

Still never going to happen though!

  2. Get Rafa Benitez in.  Not going anywhere under Mike Ashley, closer to his fam in Liverpool, has won this league before.  Not to mention that once we get up, we will be loaded, with an ex Real Madrid manager in charge.

Or just chuck some money at Eddie Howe.  He must be bored by now.

    UTV

  3. Played well last night.  First time I've seen him not take the easy pass back to the centre half every time, and look to move the ball forward.  Fair play.  Will be good this season rotating to keep him fresh.

  4. I know it's a clear shot but he's got two hands to it. The ball should go anywhere but behind him on the goal line. Generally palmed over the bar.

    Lettuce hands

played well well though otherwise tbf

  5. A midfielder that runs up and down the pitch!  Closing players down and good with the ball. To think at villa we've been so used to the midfielder that hasn't got those energy levels and is happy marking space/zones.  Hopefully our other midfielders take note and get a bit fitter!

  6. As a Holte End ST holder, it's been annoying that the past few home games have seen the away team turn us around at kick off.  Shooting towards the Holte first half.

However yesterday, Burton took the kickoff, which must've meant Terry won the toss and decided to shoot towards the Holte first half.

I wonder if this is a new thing now?  Start quick and get a lead?  Get the Holte buzzing from the start?  It's coincided  with the winning streak?

We need to start tempting fringe players from clubs above us instead of taking players from shit teams. Jedinak and Chester came from the Premier League to us and you can see the quality in them as they've been two of our best players this season. Even Taylor stands out since his arrival in January.

The best Villa teams of the last 20+ years included signings from decent clubs and I think that's what we should aim to do this summer. If it means paying top wages to 4 or 5 Premier League fringe players then so be it. You only have to look at the influence Gayle, Richie and Shelvey have had on Newcastle to see how much of a difference it can make.

    This is spot on.

Was the rule not changed this season ? fouling the last man and giving a penalty was supposed to not be a red anymore, as it was a too severe punishment.. ffs

For Goalkeepers yes.  Wouldn't do it for outfield players as they'd be hacking players down all the time.

    soft though. Never a red

Basically a full season of paying attention to the league and its amazing how poor it is in every way.

Only Fulham and Brighton can seemingly play football. Newcastle and Huddersfield have been effective but generally just do enough in a game to win it without playing well.

Jesus we are crap to struggle in this.

Yeah for the huge sums of money we've chucked at it we're piss poor.  The worst side I've seen were Cardiff under Warnock - and they're pretty much par with us in the table.

doesnt help shipping out your three summer signings costing 20m y Jan though!  What a mess.

28% possession explains why they are in a relegation battle and despite the "disaster" at Arsenal they are top 6...

.....meanwhile we are a midtable Championship who have found our level under Bruce.

Suggest you take a look at how Leicester won a league last season, and how both Atelico Madrid and Dortmund have done well in the champions league over the past years.  Of which Arsenal haven't got passed the second round.

Theres room for the style of footy if you have the right players.  Like us under MON.  Just only you need to fit and use your squad.

Was Yorke really that good tho? I mean at a United he was great but only remember him having 1 truly outstanding season and then we sold him.

Yorke was great.  Watch the season reviews, so good.

Just to confirm it was me jumping to a conclusion and we were not sold a pup last year. The club sent the following on the bottom of an e-mail I received on 23/2:

"To clarify and in response to a number of comments from Season Ticket Holders, supporters that renewed their 2016/17 season ticket before 31st May 2016 will have their price frozen beyond the Early Bird deadline of 7th April 2017 and will remain frozen until the first home league game of the 2017/18 season in August (date to be confirmed). Your existing seat will be held until 5pm on Friday 9th June. We will continue to monitor feedback and act accordingly".

I should have known better and will pay in full in early June to hold onto my existing seat (if you want to spread the payments over 4 or 9 months charge-free the purchase will still be need to be made by 7/4). Well done to the club! :thumb:

So does this mean the prices will go up? If you didn't get the freeze? I did, but they can't be increasing the prices surely?

  14. Two fans behind me just went into the default mode of shouting "pass it" every time he got the ball.  Yeah, at time he does too much, but I like individual runs/goals.  That's why he's exciting to watch.

Surely the keeper should've had a red card for that pen? Last man?

The laws were changed this season to get rid of the triple jeopardy punishment on Goalkeepers for bringing down a player when through on a goal.  A peno is deemed enough punishment.  Before it was a pen, red card, and suspension.

I think the law is on a trial for two seasons.

Still red cards for outfield players.  So even now Phil Dowd is still a bellend.

It's always somehow because of Hutton. Obsessed.

You want to see obsession mate, head over to other football and the Westwood thread.  Still going strong even after hes left.
