  1. To my mind he is trying to hard to impress, with a season long lone and an option to buy he is under pressure to make an impact as soon as possible, where as if he had been transfered with a 3 or 4 year contract the pressure is off to a certain degree knowing there is time to make an impact. not many players settle straight into a new team in a different country. Hell i remember Ken Mcnaughts first season with us awful and that was only moving 70 miles 🙂. I think he needs time and should be judged at the end of the season. Emery seems to see something after all

I have that 76,77 side down as more exciting than the one that won the league and European cup. They were an absolute joy to watch.

If we had had a better pair of centre backs that year we would of been in with a shout of the title. Scored goals for fun that season.

Gerrard doesn’t do any coaching and the players themselves have said he barely speaks to them. We were shit last year under Beale and he’s gone thankfully.

Critchley is the one to pin your hopes on but as he’s missed pre season…

Well they were showing video of him taking part in coaching outhere during our OZ tour, and he was speaking to plenty of them after the game at Optus on Saturday,

When visiting my bro in Perth in 2012, I went to a Glory vs Melbourne Heart game. Loads of ex pats, judging by the various English shirts as well as the Perth Glory fans.....but the songs/chants...it was like going back to the 80s.....goalkeeper kicks ("...ooooh you're shit aaaaah !").....opposition player is fouled ("SHE fell over,  SHE fell over !") along with a few others that now escape my memory.

Think the club was genuinly suprised by the amount and passion of the support out here.

From memory, when pre season friendlies went really badly so did our season. But honestly my memory of them is scetchy so I'd like to see what others remember etc.?

I'd imagine if we're having a Conte like pre season the lads will be barely able to muster the energy to walk onto the pitch!

The year we finished top 6 under Brian Little think we lost all pre season

Any chance this is on Premier Sports?

I'm not tech minded but we have a smart dns and can watch all UK tv from here in Australia, It is on free to air TV over here on ch 10 Bold i believe, so if you set up a smart DNS or the like you might be able to watch it.

Just got back from an evening with purslow and gerrard at optus stadium.

They spoke well. Didn't really say anything we haven't heard before. Apart from them both not liking Townsville, too many creepy crawlies for them. Very relieved to be in Perth.

Fair few scousers and rangers gatecrashed it. To be expected I guess. Gerrard got a fair few beers down his neck.

Purslow really is a short arse and gerrards hairline is bang on in the flesh. 😂😂

WTF scousers doing there, fair few of us missed on tickets because of those rocket polishers.

Yeah a few of us are heading down to Raffles on Friday then meeting at the Globe Saturday as it's the first pub off the train in the City a few stops from the ground. Hopefully see a few fellow lions there.

You think Stevie G is in the same bracket as Ron Saunders ?

Only a few weeks until we find out I suppose.

Certainly in man management terms, i don't think you f@$k Gerrard about. But how you can interpret @TRO comment as an over all comparison is disingenuous

    Nowt queerer than folk.

People have their reasons for disliking other people, which can have varying degrees of logic....not worth trying to work it out.

Its easy for me....because I really like the guys persona....and love his drive and determination.

We all know, the connection with Liverpool is awesome, but he give Rangers everything too.

I think he is that sort....if he fails  with us , it won't be for the want of trying, I am sure of that.

Yep i agree, was ambivalent about Gerrard as a person, didn't know much about him to be honest other than he wasn't a big time Charlie. But watched  the doco Make us dream on Amazon and i like the cut of his jib, seems a thoughly decent person, and other than playing for Liverpool and handing our arses to us a few times i don't see what there isn't to like.

I’ll probably go to Raffles as it is the official pre match location, it does not look like it is that close to the stadium though? I’m from NSW so will be my first trip to Perth. I’m in the 2nd row behind the goals in the Villa section.

Raffles has a Villa Legends night on the Friday no details yet. Raffles is close to the train and would take about 40 minutes to get to Optus. There a many Bars within walking distance of Optus and a great brewery ( Blasta ) only one stop down at Burswood on the train.

Perhaps it was hopelessly naive of Gerrard to take a job if he can't work with a group of players and make them better, is it poor communication? Bad coaching? Bad setup for the squad he has?

It makes him look a bit poor as a nascent Premier League coach.

Sign world class players is a wonderful, if a far fetched route to success... He's going to have to at some point improve players.

What if a number of those players are at their limit. Maybe a number of our squad are lower to mid premier league standard. I think it's a fallacy that it's just accepted you should be able to improve with coaching.

Running with ball at feet and so direct  I'm trying to think of a central midfielder past or present as good as him, heard on radio this week comparisons to his ball control to giggs

  14. Think Dean's time had come  but any new manager apart from the elite few comes with risks, one thing with Gerrard is he will be putting himself under a lot of pressure to be successful, because if he is not he can kiss his Liverpool job goodbye. Still better than having the usual suspects.

  15. My first game was Norwich at home in 67. Best ever Villa player in those 54 years in my opinion. Goal that sticks in my mind is the 2nd goal v Sunderland April 75 at a packed 57000 Villa park.
