  1. Just Got this email - Source copied from Irish Lions Club

    "Hi Guys,

It’s only a few days away until the biggest event that the AVSC Irish Lions Club has ever hosted. I’m putting together the final touches with the Irish Lions team and the fantastic guys at Murrays Bar, with additional help from AVFC themselves at Villa Park. I just want to share with you all the information that I have up to date,  as all the questions are now starting to flood in!

    Hopefully i’ll have covered everything.

Friday 2nd August Set up day:

Weekender Set up will be throughout the day on Friday 2nd August in Murrays Bar. You are all welcome to stop by, help if you want or simple have a drink with other Villa fans and watch it all take shape. Villa Village will arrive by ferry on Friday for set up, but nothing will go on sale until Saturday morning. There will be a good few Villa fans flying in for an extra evening on Friday, so expect a steady influx of fans if you want to join in for a pre-weekender pint or 3. The reduced Villa prices will be available on Friday too.

Saturday 3rd August – Weekender Day 1 & the Villa Party!

    • Murrays Bar opens at 8am
    • Special prices on food and drink and we’ll have Villa prizes to be won on the day.
    • The annual group photo will be at 2pm outside Murrays Bar on O’Connell Street. Wear your Claret & Blue! AVTV will be there filming and our official photographer will be taking the photo. Everyone will get a high-res digital copy and it will also go up as a framed print at Villa park.
    • After the photo there will be an EA Sports FIFA Tournament with huge Villa prizes up for grabs. Scheduled for 2pm-6pm. Sign up details & exact timings to be confirmed, but likely to be sign up from 1pm - 2pm, with a 2pm start. AVTV event with a legend TBC after the photo also.
    • The main meet a legend event (either Paul McGrath or Ian Taylor) signing, photos, Q&A will start approx 5-6pm and finish approx 9pm.
    • We will have a TWO bands on from around 9pm (One upstairs and the other downstairs, followed by a DJ around 1030pm doing music requests until the early hours.
    • Murrays will have a late licence until 230am, but unlike other Dublin City Centre bars, special drinks prices will remain the same all day from open until close. There will be no price increases during the day or night.

Sunday 4th August – Weekender Day 2, Match Day and Bank Holiday Party

    • Murrays Bar opens at 8am
    • Special prices on food and drink and we’ll have prizes to be won on the day.
    • Big Villa Breakfast until 11am, but food available all day. The will also be a BBQ in the beer garden.
    • Pre-match drinks and banter until approx 12:30pm
    • THE MARCH – probably what most people are looking forward too and the highlight of the Bohs weekend in 2010. We’ll all congregate outside Murrays bar around 1230pm and flood O’Connell Street with Claret & Blue before making our way down en masse to Abbey Street Luas Tram Stop. There will be 6 trams in 10 min interval carrying up to 2200 people to Tallaght Stadium. We are aware that there are only 2 tickets machines, so Murrays have arranged for you to buy your match day flexi Luas tram ticket in advance from Murrays bar on either Friday, Saturday or Sunday for the match day, so you do not need to queue on match day. • Your Luas Tram FlexiTicket will be valid for return to the City Centre.

    • Our second meet a legend event (either Paul McGrath or Ian Taylor – whoever wasn’t on Sat night) will be at some point between 6pm & 9/10pm, which will be confirmed closer to the time and will last 90 minutes approx.
    • We will have a TWO bands on from around 9pm/10pm (One upstairs and the other downstairs, followed by a DJ around 1030pm doing music requests until the early hours.
    • Even though it’s a bank holiday, we’ll have a late licence until 230am and again prices for drinks will remain the same from open until close. There will be no price increases late at night.

  2. Unreserved West Stand is now sold out on ticketmaster. FULL OF VILLANS :D :D :D

There are 1,000+ tickets left in the East Stand amongst the Shamrock Rovers fans and astonvilla.ie are waiting on information back from Aston Villa as to how many tickets are left in the original 750 allocation given to the club for travelling fans.

All in all it looks like this is going to be a very well supported match from Villa's point of view. It's going to be an immense (bank holiday) weekend.

Now just to get the weather ...

    What that man said!!!

This is going to be awesome.

In a nutshell: Irish Banter, Murrays Bar, Tayls, Villa, March, Match, No Empty Seats, Craic, Murrays Bar, Craic, God, Craic = Up the Villa. 2 days (and nights) of magic!

  3.

In other places pints can go from €4-6.50, all depends what bar it is

Agree with this and BOF. If you're stupid, you'll pay the price. Murrays Bar will be by far the cheapest bar and if you stick to their offers you'll pay less than in an English pub.

Usually only €10 for a jug of beer in Murrays Bar, but if you head to the tourist trap of Temple bar you'll pay 50-100% more.

  4. A few words copied from the AVSC Irish Lions Website.

"The Dublin Villa Weekender is a FREE 2 day event on Sat 3rd & Sun 4th August. With special guests and events held over the two days in Murrays Bar - You wont want to miss either day! More Info on match tickets, hotels, special guests, events, travelling from airport, the massive Villa march to the match -

Now this is the bit i'm most looking forward too! They are so organised and made it so easy for everyone going over.. fair play to 'em.

The march to the game vs bohs in 2010 was awesome, but this has the potential to be unbelievable!

"The Irish Lions Club is pleased to announce: Getting to Tallaght Stadium on match day August 4th. We will all be leaving Murrays Bar together with UK fans too - marching down O'Connell Street en masse! (This will be filmed for our Youtube channel and AVTV) We have liased with Veola/Luas and there will be 6 trams taking 2300 passengers between 12-1pm. We are aware there are only 2 ticket machines between you all, so Murrays bar have made available discount Luas tram day tickets to purchase from the bar with your pint cheaper than the machine price. You can purchase in advance in Murrays bar on 2nd, 3rd or 4th of August! No queing at the ticket machine - UTV!"

If you want to see what they have planned then go to there web page http://astonvilla.ie/shamrock-rovers-vs-aston-villa-august-2013/

Looks like there will be cheaper drink for us there too!!

    Well up for this one!!!

  5. Going to book the Ibis hotel by the Red Cow. Stayed there before, cheap, nice hotel & Luas just over the road .

Its bank holiday weekend mate, so no late night Luas, you'll end up getting taxis back on nights and spending more in the long run....  done it myself before and wished I hadn't.

I've booked into the Gate Hotel, right next to Murrays bar.

Theres a list of hotels close by on the Irish Lions Website: http://astonvilla.ie/

  6. Huge party plan

Shamrock Rovers also added to the tour.

Villa will now play Shamrock Rovers in their pre-season tour.

The clash with the League of Ireland side has been added to the extensive schedule ahead of the 2013-14 campaign.

The game with Enda Stevens's former team will take place on Sunday August 4, kick-off 2pm.

It will be played at Tallaght Stadium.

  7. Does anyone definatly know if this game is going ahead its down for the August weekend 2nd-4th ive spoke to a few rovers fans they reckon it depends if Villa get relegated as thats when the championship season starts.

Its definately happening*. Some things look like they're being arranged in the background.

Saw a minor update on http://astonvilla.ie/shamrock-rovers-vs-aston-villa-august-2013/ today.

Looks like its going to be a massive weekend. Word on the street is they're getting some major stars to make an appearance too for a Villa party in Dublin CIty Centre.(Its bank holiday in Ireland that weekend)

Match seems to have moved to Sunday 4th at the moment but everything is TBC and they have said it is because of our situation in the league.

I'd say once Villa are mathimatically safe then all will be revealed.

Really looking forward to this.. as away days and pre-season goes. The one the Irish Lions did in 2010 was one of the best. Apprantly this one will be better!

  8. On the weekend of August 3rd & 4th, Villa are over in Dublin to play Shamrock Rovers in a pre-season friendly. That bit you already knew.

What you didn't know was that the whole weekend is an official AVFC party in Dublin being hosted in Murrays Bar on O'Connell Street and that God himself - Paul McGrath will be joined by Ian Taylor, the League Cup from 1996 and a still-to-be-confirmed 4th guest. There will be thousands there over the course of the weekend. For those who were present for the Bohemians game a few years back you have an idea of what to expect. For everyone else I can only invite you and say it will be an awesome weekend well worth coming over for. It's a Bank Holiday weekend in Ireland so if you are planning on making the short trip across from England, it might be an idea to book the Monday off work because Sunday night will be every bit as mental as Saturday.

For more details on the plans for that weekend you can visit the details page of the supporters group website.

The more the merrier guys and gals. You know it makes sense :D
