Oh yes, it's what makes it a classic (I know I have in here but you know, just blame spellcheck or alcohol as applicable)
I’m going to head down the alcohol route for this one! Been a crazy few weeks!

Thought over the course of the play-offs that Mings has been the stand-out. Not many athletic defenders with his pace and power these days. As long as he improves his concentration levels I think he’s got the ability to do really well in the Prem.

I went to Wembley with a group of guys for our last League Cup final against Man Utd. Three of us (me included) went dressed in costume, as Villa knights. Our group went to the Greyhound pub pre-match and whilst in that pub we befriended a group of four Norwegian men who were members of the Norwegian Villa fan club. They had paid £600 each to travel over from Norway to watch the game and stay at a hotel for the night. They became Villa fans after Erik Bakke had been signed by us and we're chuffed that John Carew was playing for us at the time. I've stayed in touch with one of the guys ever since.
I hope you get lucky, SuperJohnMcGinn, and find tickets for you and your brother. Who knows, maybe your namesake can score a Wembley goal for you, in a Villa win, to make it a day to remember.
Sadly we had no luck with the tickets but just about smashed the TV when the Villa goals went in today! Absolutely brilliant!
Genuinely felt liked I had supported Villa all my days watching the game today. A proper working class football club with a great ethos and tremendous support.
Over the moon for you all and hope you enjoy the celebrations over the next few days.
Hopefully we have more luck with tickets for a few games next season as we’d love to come down to VP.

Since SJM followed in the footsteps of the great Des Bremner in making the switch from one great club to another in the summer I have followed his progress very closely whilst finding myself becoming more and more of a Villain each week!
My brother and I are going to travel down to Wembley from Edinburgh for the play off final a week on Monday to support SJM and Villa getting back to where they belong, in the Prem. Even if it is just to sample the atmosphere in the pubs pre match. On the off chance are there any Villa fans on here that could source or point me in the right direction of how I could source 2 tickets for the game? I know it’s very much a long shot but we would absolutely love to be there.
Either way it’d be great to meet some of you guys down there for a pint!

I can definitely say that inability to handle pressure has never ever been an issue for John. If anything he is normally the one to step up and take a game by the scruff of the neck to drag the rest of the team over the line.
He does however go through 2-3 game spells every now and then where he does look tired and not quite up to his usual standards but that is always incredibly short lived. A wee break between now and the final will see him back to his very best.

The other positive about McGinn as well is he has a full pre season, 3 Europa League games and 1 league game under his belt and he's been in probably his best ever form at the start of this season so he'll be ready to hit the ground running.

Don't be alarmed by the radio silence on here now from Hibs fans, we are all in mourning, the mood around E.R at the moment is like somebody has died!
In 25 years I've never been so gutted about a player moving on but that is for purely good reasons. He will be an asset to Villa and I reckon a legend one day. Couldn't be happier he's chosen to go to a huge club in England and really test himself. It also says a lot about Villa the fact that Celtic matched both Villa's offer and personal terms, John and his family are all Celtic fans and he's still chosen to sign for you guys.
There's no risk about this transfer from your end, Super John McGinn WILL be a huge success.
Just out of interest, how easy/difficult is it to get tickets for Villa Park these days? I hope you don't mind but I'm adopting Villa as my English team now and would be keen to come down for a game or two once the season is in full swing!

I see Sky Sports are now reporting the Grealish to Spurs deal is now off, is that likely to change things at your end re McGinn?

Celtic have matched our bid so I guess this ones over with now.

I wouldn't be so sure, Hibs would strongly prefer McGinn to go down to Villa and McGinn has also said privately he is worried about the game time he would get at Celtic. John has his head firmly screwed on and he will make the right decision for footballing reasons which hopefully should be Villa.

Perhaps as a good will gesture we can loan out Tshibola to one of the Hibs league rivals to weaken them and make the loss of McGinn feel a bit less hard?
Thank you for the kind offer, please forward said player to Hearts.
Kindest regards!

Thanks for this, and @Super John McGinn for the info.
What a lovely bunch the Hibs fans are
No problem at all,
I have a soft spot for Villa and have a view that they are one of the last remaining "working class" clubs with a cracking support. Infrastructure of a top 10 English Prem club and really hope you get back there ASAP.

So how does McGinn fit in then? He seems like a traditional center mid, could he be the 'holding' player to give Whelan a bit of a breather? Or competition for Hourihane.
He doesn't seem like a replacement for Grealish to me.
He it a typical all action midfielder who can do the dirty side but also the free flowing attack side. He is used to playing in an interchangeable midfield three generally in the more attacking position. He could fit in to a CDM role but it would stifle him as a player and stop him making the impact he can on games.

Thanks chap. We've got another Scottish chap with that sort of spirit, Sir Alan of Huttonshire. If wee John has just a bit of what Sir Alan does, we're onto a winner.
We'll look after him.
You'll grow to love him very quickly and he probably has more about him than Hutton ever did to be honest although I have rated Hutton quite highly. Anything under £5 million is a steal for McGinn.

Ah Scott Allan the Baggies reject also played number of time for clubs on loan down here including the unwashed. Never rated that guy myself i am sure you can find a lot better with the money for McGinn.
Yep, that's him, Allan is a very strange one, literally failed at every club he's went too apart from Hibs, just one of these players that suits certain clubs.

Cheers buddy! Was actually down at Villa Park for a Premiership game v Man United in the home end about 8-9 years ago now I reckon, Villa went 2-0 up via Ashley Young and Mark Albrighton then United unfortunately got two late goals back. Cracking atmosphere and a beautiful stadium though, was made to feel really welcome by the Villa faithful!

It's also worth mentioning that there's another piece to this puzzle that could still affect the deal. Hibs are also after a former player of ours, Scott Allan, from Celtic and the talk throughout the summer is that we would get him back in any deal we make with Celtic for McGinn so if Celtic match Villa's offer then it gives Hibs a bigger headache. Overall the club would prefer him to go to Villa but know that we need Scott Allan and creating tension between us and Celtic would not bode well for future negotiations.

Morning all,
I'm a Hibs season ticket holder so thought I'd join your forum to give you an insight in to John McGinn and what to expect if you manager to sign him which I sincerely hope you do.
John McGinn is probably the most loved Hibs player within the support and the club and has been since he joined 4 years ago. During this time we've seen him develop from a rough diamond with potential to a genuinely top quality midfielder who IMO should be Scotland's first choice midfielder right now.
John's biggest attribute is his spirit, you get these players every so often like your Gerrard's, Schole's etc that have the ability to lift a team and drive them on. John will bring that in abundance, if a game is going against you he will single handedly give everything he's got to drag the team back in to it through grit, determination and fight. On the flipside, if you're winning a game well John has the classy side of his game as well, excellent strength, ability to spray 50 yard passes with ease and a very decent turn of pace.
He also has a wicked left foot on him and the majority of his goals tend to come from drives from outside the box including two 25 yard strikes in a 2-2 draw at Celtic Park last season.
He will dominate the midfield in most games he plays and Scott Brown who's been the Celtic captain for 10 years said last season McGinn was the most difficult midfielder he's ever played against in Scotland.
The bigger the game, the bigger the performance you'll get from McGinn and he will never ever be accused of hiding.
In my opinion John McGinn will be an English premiership player within 2-3 years whether it be with Villa or another club.
From a Hibs fans perspective Villa would be a cracking move though.
Best of luck for the season ahead and hopefully you guys get promotion!
