He couldn't be further away from looking anything like Christian Eriksen. CE has never had the speed to be able to carry the ball forward. CE has his vision, his passing ranges and a decent shot.

Are you being serious? Maybe you have forgotten how Eriksen was in his younger days at Spurs. Eriksen wasn’t fast but he sure as hell could carry the ball forward in short bursts. Although that is one thing Zaniolo does better, im hoping he has as good of a vision and pass as Eriksen. Even the nutmeg Zaniolo did at the weekend was textbook Eriksen. If Zaniolo turned out as good as Eriksen was we would be lucky to have that calibre of a player.

As others have said - I think part of the 1982 things does date back to the fact that a certain previous owner completely glossed over it because it "interferred" with his "legacy".  We should absolutely celebrate it but we should celebrate it like we celebrate other things in our past (and hopefully can then celebrate things that we achieve going forward).  It does have a bit of a 1966 feel - that actually it roots the club as being stuck on something that happened almost 2 generations ago rather than looking forward to what will / might happen in the next 2 generations.  I really hope that one of the things the club does is to really imbed our history into the very fabric of the ground / stadium / etc - the names of great Villa players, great matches / scorelines, details of our honours, our role in the founding of the league, etc etched into the brickwork or into the glass / windows somehow.  I remember walking around the Nou Camp years ago and reading out the names of past players and then going hunting for specific players.  I'd love there to be a LOT more of that around all of the Villa buildings and for kids to dream about their name maybe being added to it one day.  It's a great nod to the past but also an aspirational note to the future.

I might upset a few here but I do think we need more than just a Villa claret and blue.  We need a shirt design that just says Aston Villa to everyone as soon as they see it.  The current Villa, West Ham and Burnley kits are just way to similar and really don't stand out from each other and (without a second look) are easily confused.  I'd really like us to think about somehow making us different - there are plenty of inspirations from our past that could be used to really give us a more unique "look".  Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Forest all play in red shirts and yet they all look different even out of the corner of your eye.  Changing from claret shirts with blue sleeves might be initially unpopular with some but I do think we need to find a way of making our claret and blue more unique.  We've had some great variations in recent years (that ended up becoming almost iconic shirts) but this year's effort is particularly bland and easy to mistake.

I'm not sure the length of a sponsorship deal particularly concerns me - but I do want us to be better at finding a sponsor that either aligns with our location (i.e. a big brand from the Midlands) or a sponsor that aligns with our values as a club.  I know some will say what does Crown Paint or Muller or any other sponsor matter - the money is what is important.  But I think you can do both.  I think we can get good money from a sponsor that we can buy into or that ties into a story.  For example, if Aston Martin wouldn't be a sponsor why not start talking to the companies that sponsor Aston Martin F1 - then they've got a real story to tell with links to two iconic Midlands "brands" and it gives us the indirect opportunity to do link ups with Aston Martin.

I agree. I think a proper shade of claret top with just a tinge of blue would make us look so much better and unique. We can explore having claret shorts as our primary kit option too.

I had a quick look at a more 'square' diamond, but I think you lose the 'AV' too much, I did quite a few variations messing around, see below.

These variations are great! I think if you can churn out the first row, top right design with our current round badge w 1874 at the bottom instead would be a fantastic design 👍🏽

Working in design, it can be annoying when clients want a hybrid of different options.

However in this case, would this not sort the issue? The things most fans want to see, without subjective shapes..

Man, what a let down. They have somehow convinced me both are worst than the current one. The first one looks too PES for me or something you’d see on an MLS team. If they wanted a modern design, it should’ve been this one from the sweats kits and add 1874 by the side.

The second one wow what a shitshow. They have managed to take a round badge and made the worst design out of it. Its too simple, it looks very generic. The colours are all wrong. The Lion should stay gold and the claret and blue is the wrong shade still. They should add Football Club at the bottom and 1874 by the side like this fan-made one. This fan-made is almost perfect in my eyes. Just update and turn the lion the other way around and (maybe swap the claret and blue colours) its perfect. Anybody here able to do so? Would love to see how that would look like.

Found another fan made one that is absolutely beautiful. Can anybody make the lion face the other way?

  7. He needs to go. He still persists on with two upfront when it clearly doesn’t work. He doesnt even know his best eleven and how to get the best out of his players, he doesnt know how to put his best players in the same line up, he’s tactically inept and looks clueless most of the time. Its time to move on. A top manager is currently available. Stevie out. Pochettino in.

Suggested him in the summer and earlier this season, fantastic player who would tick every box we look for and more.

Might be a tad unrealistic sadly considering the other clubs he's been linked with.

I think we still have a chance. Buendia and Bailey whom i had suggested as potential targets in the summer were linked to bigger clubs and we still got them much to the surprise of many, including myself. Hoping i am third time lucky at calling a transfer 😆

Why has he been on loan so much?

He’s been pretty much a late bloomer given the position his playing its nothing to worry about. At the same age Kante had only just moved to Leicester. He has been invaluable to Sporting for the past couple of seasons now. One of their best players.

  10. i think we should take a look at Joao Palhinha from Sporting for the CDM spot. Absolute beast at tackling and breaking down play. Very underrated player. Definitely a better choice than Boubacar Kamara currently. He’s 26 now entering his peak years. Thats what we need right now. Someone with experience in the centre.

  11. Attacking 4-3-3; Watkins cutting in to central positions ala CR7 and Buendia moving left wing when on attack into a 4-4-2/4-2-4 and Buendia moving back to central mid when defending/team off the ball.

                          Martinez

                   Konsa          Mings

     Cash        Nakamba/Luiz         Targett

                    SJM           Buendia

          Bailey          Ings          Watkins

It was all really simple until we signed Ings:

    Bailey——Ollie——Buendia

    Done.

But we haven’t dropped £30m on Ings for the bench, he doesn’t operate as a lone striker and Watkins won’t be dropped anyway, so for me Buendia moves to AM behind a 3 of Ollie — Ings— Bailey.

Attacking AF so having lots of CMs to rotate is a good thing - they’ll be working hard!!

                           Martinez

                   Konsa          Mings

     Cash                  Luiz              Targett

              SJM /JWP           Buendia

        Bailey              Ings           Watkins

  13. In an ideal world, i would play Emi in a unorthodox role as a left central midfielder of a 4-3-3 much like how Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid used Angel Di Maria in that 2013-14 season with great effect as they won the Champions League and Copa Del Rey.

    Benzema played up top with CR7 and Bale as the wide forwards. Whenever CR7 cut into central positions, Di Maria would move out wide to take up attacking positions on the left wing, providing another option on the wing, essentially changing the formation to 4-4-2 or a 4-2-4 when they were on the attack;

                          Casillas

                   Pepe          Ramos

     Carvajal         Alonso        Marcelo

              Modric         Di Maria

        Bale          Benzema          CR7

    That season was Di Maria best season in his entire career to date. I think Buendia could play this role well. I can see Watkins in the CR7 role. Last season he drifted wide alot of times. The problem is, we dont have Modric and Xabi Alonso to support Buendia in midfield…but i still want to see us try it out;

                         Martinez

                   Konsa          Mings

     Cash                 Luiz             Targett

                    JWP           Buendia

          Bailey          Ings          Watkins

Realistically though, wont happen. We’ll probably play a 4-3-3 with a double pivot or something. We dont have JWP, and he’s no Modric either. Luiz isnt Alonso yet. We just dont have the personnel in midfield to support Buendia.

This role is what i envisioned Grealish could take up, but Grealish who?.. Buendia can do it ten times better.

McGinn isn't getting dropped. If anyone will it will be Luiz. McGinn is a Smith type player. Tenacious

Not a chance. If we see the same Mcginn from last season, no way isnt he getting dropped. Luiz is the only safe one for me now (unless we get a new no.6 like Anguissa or Bissouma).

He will rotate with Nakamba in the no.6 role, while Mcginn,Sanson and (if he signs) JWP will compete to start in the B2B role. Granted Sanson’s not ready now but once he does he has every chance to take that spot.

Alternatively, we may play with two holding midfielder i.e. JWP and Luiz and one attacking mid i.e. Sanson? (not sure if he can play that role), Buendia or even Ings. Bottom line is, there’ll be alot of options in midfield for Dean.
