I wonder what the trains are going to be like back to Brum afterwards? Haven't been down on a night for a while, but it's bad enough on Saturdays.
First game of the season for me, and really excited; although slightly nervous!

I this short article on Under A Gas Lit Lamp gives a good overview of why the chant is problematic.
Ezri Konsa’s Leipzig Chant Should Not Grace the Premier League
QuoteA bit of frivolity in Leipzig over the weekend saw a chant catch on for new signing Ezri Konsa, which should stay in Germany with all things considered.
During Aston Villa’s weekend trip to Germany to face RB Leipzig, a version of the England national team’s chant for Harry Maguire surfaced, involving new signing Ezri Konsa.
The song involves discussion of Konsa’s drinking habits, before passing comment on the size of his penis – an issue previously discussed by anti-discriminatory body Kick it Out in regards to a Manchester United chant for Romelu Lukaku.
This also happened just nine or so months ago with Everton fans discussing defender Yerry Mina.
Whilst some fans will beg the question of how the chant is discriminatory, it perpetuates racial stereotypes that have long been held – and likely wouldn’t be sung if Konsa was of another ethnicity. Any assumption based upon the colour of someone’s skin is racist.
This supposedly ‘positive’ statement is not a problem-free statement to make. There’s a likelihood that someone holding this stereotypical thought is going to hold others towards those of other ethnicities and religions too.
It’s not just banter. There are deeper issues underlying this, but one we’re not going to delve into. We’ll likely be called ‘snowflakes’ for proposing that this chant shouldn’t make it to the stands of Villa Park.
But if we can nip this in the bud early, before the likes of Ezri Konsa or Kick it Out have to speak up, much like what happened with Romelu Lukaku, then we can prove that our fans aren’t what is often reported.

Only on the red button though, right?

Yes, seems shin splints is just an old tern for MTSS (Medial tibial stress syndrome); unless I'm missing something. Although I certainly accept that MTSS is poorly defined, I don't think it's just "a collective term for lower leg pain", but may be more accurate as a colloquial term for a widespread pain in the shin.
"Medial tibial stress syndrome (MTSS) is an enigmatic condition with confusing terminology, the term often being used interchangeably with shin splints. It is suggested that MTSS and shin splints be used as generic rather than diagnostic terms. On account of variable definitions, the reported incidence rate varies from 4 to 35% in military and athletic populations. Broadly, it represents exertional lower leg pain centred on the posteromedial tibial border and being diffuse/linear (greater than 5 cm) rather than focal. Presentations of acute shin splints should be regarded as bone stress injuries until proven otherwise and not treated as periostitis with anti-inflammatory modalities/drugs. Chronic presentations are more likely in females, those with a running history less than 5 years, increased body mass index, larger calf girth*, increased hip rotation, standing foot pronation and a history of orthotics use, MTSS or stress fracture. Muscle hernia, stress fracture and chronic exertional compartment syndrome should be ruled out. The differential diagnosis also includes radiculopathy, nerve entrapment syndromes and the possibility of an accessory muscle should not be overlooked. There are few randomised controlled trials (RCTs) that have studied treatment and prevention and those available suggest that rest is probably as beneficial as any other form of intervention. Prevention may be afforded by either shock absorbing insoles or more formal orthotics. The pathophysiology would seem to be related to diffuse bone stress with resultant periostalgia. Thus rest and the possible use of compressive splints are advised with a graduated return to running activities once risk factors have been addressed."

I am so pleased that someone has said this because it is absolutely correct.
I think you're wrong,. Shin splints is not "just a collective term for lower leg pain"
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/shin-splints/
QuoteOther causes of lower leg pain
Pain in the lower legs and shins can also be caused by:
- stress fractures (tiny cracks in the bone) – the pain often affects one leg, but can affect both, and is usually focused in a small area; there may also be some swelling
- a sprain or strain – this can cause swelling, bruising and pain that continues during rest
- a tendon injury – symptoms include pain, stiffness, weakness and a grating or crackling sensation when moving the affected area
- reduced blood supply to the legs (peripheral arterial disease) – this causes an aching pain triggered by physical activity that fades after a few minutes of rest
- swelling of the leg muscle (compartment syndrome) – this can cause cramping pain in the muscles that develops gradually during exercise and fades quickly at rest
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shin_splints#Diagnosis
QuoteBone scintigraphy and MRI scans can be used to differentiate between stress fractures and shin splints.[16]
It is important to differentiate between different lower leg pain injuries, including shin splints, stress fractures, compartment syndrome, nerve entrapment, and popliteal artery entrapment syndrome. These conditions often have many overlapping symptoms which makes a final diagnosis difficult, and correct diagnosis is needed to determine the most appropriate treatment.

People really need to let this John Terry idea go.
He's left, please move on.
Can we even register free agents for the team now, before January?
This article seems to suggest not: https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/transfer-deadline-day-can-free-13044460
QuoteWhat about free agents
Football League clubs, including Steve Bruce's Aston Villa, have until the end of the month to complete loan deals and free transfers (Image: Aston Villa/Getty)
Again, it's a no for Premier League clubs.
They won't be able to sign out-of-contract players until January.
Football League clubs have until the end of August to sign up free agents.
In years gone by, clubs were able to sign free agents at any point, but clubs under orders to submit their 25-man squads, this is no longer permitted."
edit: Although this post I missed from Made in Aston suggests the Mirror are wrong...

The short answer is yes.
Presumably these are the rules we need to look at? https://www.efl.com/-more/governance/efl-rules--regulations/section-6---players/:
Quote43.2
Subject always to the provisions of Regulation 43.3, after the expiry of each Transfer Window (and/or in the Extended Period, if applicable) in each Season registrations of Players and transfers of registrations will, except as permitted in Regulation 55, be declined or will only be approved:
43.2.1
where the Player is transferred on a Temporary Loan Transfer during the Extended Period (as defined in Regulation 42.2.2);
43.2.2
where the Player is an Out of Registration Player;

Nah, I'm pretty sure they just sacked off the replays once they realised they couldn't do them properly.

Here's Lerner's statement from when he sold up:
In spite of my personal affection for reading history I have come to trust the future more than the past. And when I refer to the 'past,' I do so lightly and lightheartedly.
I refer to recent accounts - mostly in the press regarding the sale of the Club, that are so many miles from accuracy or truth that I can only assume that they too were written by people whose tongues were firmly embedded in their respective cheeks. It is football after all.
As I've said, it was my hope that ownership and custodianship of the Club would have been transferred some years ago when I knew that personal and professional matters made it impossible for me to contribute the time I did in my first five years with the Club.
Time and immersion that is crucial to any formula for success.Still, fates are fickle in football so that we could claw back to safety last season, end up at Wembley at a Cup Final sitting amongst old friends!, and then spend the 2015/16 campaign at Bannockburn!
As I expect this to be my last message to supporters through the Villa website I thought it worth reiterating that my approach from the beginning, consistent with my longstanding affection for The Trinity, was in three parts: Villa Park infrastructure, Bodymoor Heath infrastructure and the Villa squad.
I have a sneaking suspicion that my best chance of any tolerable memories in this regard will lie with the father and son of this trinity…!
In the end, however, so many wonderful young players came through Villa during my time and it is to them and supporters alike whom I am indebted.

1. Yes. You should login as your brother an use his ID to buy the ticket. You should log in with his username/fanID and password, then you will be able to buy a ticket in his name. You shouldn't need to add his postal code and fanID manually if you do it that way.
2. Correct.
3. It depends on your friend's booking history. At 5pm BST Monday you will only be able to buy tickets for FanIDs that have at least one league game history this season. If your friend has no FanID history, unfortunately he will not be eligible for a ticket till the following day when they go on general sale. You might want to ask your brother if he has any other friends not going and maybe have spare FanIDs?
Good luck!
Tom

Anyone notice if there's anything in category 3 left? Are they still holding blocks back?
Think I'm probably going to wait till tomorrow so I can try and get tickets (if not next to) at least in the same area as my mates. If it's obviously going to sell out though, I guess I might as well go for it.
edit: Also, are we sure the playoff semi definitely counts?
Thanks

Pretty sure the transfer window only governs incoming transfers, so McCormack can still go somewhere if their transfer window is open.

No idea why he was dropped
Apparently he "had a bit of a hamstring" in Bruce's words. He didn't want to risk him pulling it and being out for months.

Absolutely, Terry should have put that away. Couldn't believe he was onside at the time.

exactly we screwed it up , im not sure what point you are makeing
My point was to agree with you while adding that I could see us scoring from the Kodjia -Adomah chance. You said the "Bolton screw up for pen". We didn't get the penalty because Kodjia failed to pass to Adomah.

Hate to be negative after a win but aside from a Bolton screw up for pen , can't see us scoring today
How about when Kodjia failed to pass to Adomah just before that? But yes generally chances were few and far between. It seemed like Kodjia was perhaps playing too far back (almost seemed like a midfielder at times), Davis was bullied out of it by their centre backs and Hourihane struggled to get forward.

Life long Villa fan and recent villa talk lurker. Lost touch a little bit with going to Uni and our depressing decline in our last years in the Premiership.
Back in Brum now, and rediscovered my passion last year. Try to catch most of the games somewhere or another.
Looking forward to engaging with and learning from the forum!

Trezeguet's banned for his double yellow isn't he? Hopefully El Ghazi will show us what we know he can do.
