  1. I'd imagine the offer for Ferdinand would have been as player/coach and would have allowed him his first steps into that side of the game. I get the feeling his career after playing will be outside of football though.

Worth a cheeky punt - if you don't ask, you don't get.

  2. If anyone has a spare who's going tonight please let me know.

Last minute trip to London with work today so would be rude not to try and slip in a trip to WHL this evening to cheer on the boys

  3. We've seen what happens when you try and radically change the style of play overnight with a bunch of players who aren't used to/can't play that way. The same happened to Bolton when Big Sam left and Sammy Lee tried to get them to play football.

MON saw that we'd never have enough money to take on the big boys at a passing game, so built a team that were at least EFFECTIVE at playing a system that while wasn't great to watch, at least got results.

Houllier was the wrong choice i'm afraid, we needed someone who could carry on the same style as MON, with a few tweaks and a bit of rotation (basically address MONs annoying points). What we've now got is someone who wants to play the game differently with a load of players who simply cant play that way. There's 2 options for me:

    1) Spend big (£60m)+ in Jan on some quality that fit into GH's style of play and build half a new team

    2) Get rid of GH and bring in someone who can play effective football and get the best out of the current bunch

    There's only one feasible option.

  4. A good £10m profit in a short space of time. MON now needs to go and get that flair player that we've been missing - with the wages he was going to offer Jimmy of c£70k a week and £20m i'm sure we can pull of a right marquee signing that will appease us fans.

And what is to say that MON would spend all money, if he was to be given all the money from the sale, to spend on one player when we need more than just a replacement for Milner?

Nothing at all. Maybe he won't need to hopefully.

  5. First - I say - let's go for Hartlepool's James Brown!! Ohhh!!! I feel good!!!

Second, and a bit more on the serious side - we have a huge problem. Our scouting is crap. Even if we'll get the 30M, the chances we'll spend them on the right guy are slim. I see people calling for 20M+Ireland and I say - Do you really thing Ireland is worth 10M?! The prices for English players are an absurdity. A good scouting team could find us some relatively cheap players from the rest of Europe or Africa. But instead of doing that, we plash the money on overrated English players. I know that a team here, in Israel, managed to get a couple of players from Spain (played for relegated Valladolid) for less than 1M Euros. If so - I guess you could find some great talents there for 5-7-9M. You just have to look.

And just as Ireland isn't a 10M player, Milner is definitely not a 30M or even 20M pound player. This whole thing got out of hand.

Our scouting is crap but we've bought both Miller & Young and stand to make handsome profits on them - likewise Delph fingers crossed.

Trouble is now, we're running out of English talent, MON really must start looking to the continent for the finishing touches.

  6. Cuellar has played RB recently for one reason and one reason only - to counter Blackburn's height and their threat from set pieces

Normal service will now be resumed

i doubt it - he played the same team against West Ham, he's trying to fit all 3 in, and to the detriment of the unit

Dunne & Cuellar for me, Collins looked a tad suspect on at least one of the goals last night, being pulled out of position for Blackburns second.

  7. i think we now have sufficient strength that we can make 4 or 5 changes without really weakening the team - in previous seasons bringing players like Gardner & Osbourne in weakened us, however i'd like to see Guzan, L.Young, Shorey, Delph, Reo-Coker, Heskey all given starts, all of those would walk into 75% of teams in the premier league, and they should be absolutely chomping at the bit to win their place in the team back.

I'd have a mixture of youth and experience on the bench dependant on how the game is going with 20 mins left - if we're looking okay then lads like albrighton and the fonz can be given a go
