  1. I didnt watch the match but I wonder why everyone here is so negative over his performance when I read this in one of the online papers:

"Even so, the youngster impressed and was a constant threat to Barnsley, setting up a good chance for Jonathan Kodjia while curling another shot wide."

Are people blinded by his off field behaviour or is the press really that clueless  (yeah I know,  dont answer. ..)

Oh dear.  Bacuna suspended...so Hutton, Richards or Back 3.

    Terrible, terrible or terrible.

Maybe go with the safe option  and put de laet on the pitch, just standing still for 90 mins?

I genuinely think those 'in the game' i.e. managers and pundits appreciate him a lot more than fans, so I expect a new manager will be keen to have him heavily involved next season.

I remember one of the first matches of this season.  Jan Molby  was co-commentaring on Danish  tv. He actually said that Westwood would be the best player in the division if the played in the championship. Guess  we will  find out now.

I feel ready to move to a bigger club and show my worth . I would prefer to stay in the Premier League , but the Champions League is weighted higher , if there's a club with the opportunity , I listen .

  5. No point in signing Debouchy if we didnt expect other new bodies as well. He obviously isnt gonna make the difference between staying up or going down. Remi is too intelligent for that (the board, not so sure) So if this deal is still on, I have faith in us bringing in a (good) striker.

  6. FOOTBALL: ‘Premier League scouts’ may work for Aston Villa, young players warned

The FA has warned that talented players are at risk of ending up at Villa Park unless they exercise caution, Back of the Net investigates...

The Football Association has issued a warning to promising young footballers that men passing themselves off as ‘Premier League scouts’ may in fact be working for Aston Villa.

During the January transfer window thousands of aspiring footballers will be hunting for clubs, but that may leave them vulnerable to murky practitioners claiming to represent a ‘prestigious Premier League side’ who in fact intend to lure their unwitting targets to Villa Park.

Responding to the news that Villa scouts had been openly attending matches, the FA has made a statement urging players to put safety first and contact them if at any point they are approached by a shifty man in a claret and blue tracksuit reeking of desperation.

    Premier League scouts

“The FA has received worrying reports of scouts approaching players making out that they can offer them a Premier League future when in fact they work for Aston Villa,” an FA spokesman told FFT.

“We urge players to do their due diligence and ask any scout who approaches them which teams their club has beaten this season. If that list is shorter than two clubs then there’s a good chance he is in fact from Villa.

“Everybody thinks that signing for Aston Villa is something that happens to someone else, but while nobody sets out to do it, it happens to scores of perfectly good players every year. Many of them are never heard of again.”

    Technicalities

FFT was contacted by a Championship player who wished to remain anonymous and believes he has been approached by Aston Villa.

“The scout was very vague about exactly which club he was from, but he repeatedly said that right now, at this very moment, his club are in the Premier League, technically,” the clearly shaken player told FFT.

“He then presented me with a contract where the club name was repeatedly smudged. I asked whether it was Arsenal and he said that, in one sense I was close [to guessing it].

“After that he laughed manically for a while, then he cried a little and asked me lots of questions about life in the Championship on behalf of a ‘friend’.”

The FA has stressed that any player who feels he may have inadvertently signed for Aston Villa should get in touch before February 1 because the situation may still be remedied.

I suspect that it is in his contract that he plays CB. Sherwood and/or Richards were talking about playing as a CB rather than an RB when he signed. He took a big pay cut and I'd have thought, in exchange, he got the captaincy and the position he wants. I'm pretty sure he said at Man City he didn't want to play RB as well.

Play where the manager tells you to play. Or if you refer to your contract stating otherwise, dont play at all.

If thats also a contractual problem, play five a side in each training session with Clark on the opposing team....

  8. The problem with this kid isnt talent. His pacy dribbles are amazing. The problem is that it is all he does. Not even his  own teammates trust him to pass the ball. They know he'll rather have a go at all 8 defenders in front of him even if it is obvoius that a simple one-two can loose most of them.

There were at least two clear examples  of this yesterday. At  one point he actually made a five feet pass to Gestede. I know Gestede isnt the most mobile player in the world but he didnt connect to the pass. It was obvoius that he was suprised it even came.  A little  later Hutton passed to ball to Adama. Hutton didnt even attemt the overlap(is that the english term for running past teammate and opponent?). Had Hutton passed the ball to any other he would  have made the run.

Even with all the qualities he has, having him on the pitch disrupts any sort of teamwork. Was I the only one that noticed the negative effect he had on our general play?

It could tale ages for him to adapt to football in any league that is  better than the segunda. Where he is now, his  opponents are actually capable of dispossesing him. When he acknowledges that, hopefully he' ll be more of a team player.

  9. Just got in from Anfield, not sure what game some people in this thread were watching??

Even if you ignore the two goals he was our best player, only one (aside from maybe Gana) who actually looked bothered before we scored. Took two goals very well too.

Not only did he score twice, he cleared some 10 corners and his first touch is improving radically. Its no more than a couple of weeks ago where he didnt win anything in the air and couldnt control anything. He is gonna be  more and more important to us. He will attract more attention from defenders. Should help our other forwards find space and guys like Richards from our corners.

  10. Tim will field as many British players as possible as they know what this game is about.

    Bunn

    Hutton Richards Lescott Clark/Richardson

    Westwood Richardson/Sanchez

    Agbonlahor Cole Grealish

    Gestede

    Comfortable win.

  11. Fwiw the timing of that article is imo down to a.) our new manager and upturn in form b.) his agent still not being able to find him a club willing to give him the right contract due to his age and injury history

c.) might be easier being picked for an FA Cup final if you appear commited and loyal?

  12. I believe he is injured...a lot of PNE fans don't have him in their starting 11. When one enquired, most said he was injured and though he'd struggle to even make the bench.

A shame as I'd like to see him up against a decent defence.

    Seems that he is fit

  13. Been a "fan" since 1982. Not much of a supporter though as I've only watched "us" live once. Anyway, it was the eve of the 1982 european cup final and I was going go watch with my brother, the Bayern fan. Just decided to root for the opposition. Turned out great obviously. Have no special favorite players. Long serving loyal players mean more to me than those maybe more talented leaving after short time to pursue larger paychecks etc. Being a dane I obvoiusly enjoyed Laursens time here. What a heart.
