  1. If we added Torres and Gerrard to the current Villa squad, where would we be in May?

Well according to the OS in May we'll be at Eastlands and then at Villa park. I suppose if we get to the FA cup final we'll be at Wembley as well.

Silly answer to a silly Question :!:

  2. 3. peterwithes_shin. I agree that the news for today was Heskey's comments. They were sent to me by our media folks so there is no excuse for them not being on the site. I will take it for action.

Hi General, Been on the OS today and what a quick turn around. Obviously there is no messing about when Gen K speaks.

Don't suppose you can do anything about getting our government to be truthful and honest

  3. Hi General.

Unfortunetly another complaint about the official site. This time about the reporting in the Media watch news article. I would have thought the the point of this article is contain any mention on AV in the press either good or bad. But obviously I was wrong.

Today the main footballing story in the press and media is regarding Emile Heskey's comments about possibily having to move on to ensure his world cup place. But is that mentioned in the Media watch? No.

While we know the press often see stories where there isn't one, it insults the intelligence of AV fans to just ignore these stories and just print all the good news.

The official site should print the good and the bad and let us make up our minds.

On another point, good to see you back on the mend.

  4. Hi General,

I've not seen this article mentioned anywhere else on this site, but it looks like the work of Randy and the board isn't going unnoticed.

    http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/8211531.stm

In compiling the rankings, five criteria were used to judge club boards.

These include whether the board is putting the club first - is it using the club to make money or does it act to ensure the club continues to prosper in the future?

Also important is the issue of "long termism" - for example, is there a strong youth policy, has the stadium been improved, and is the debt level manageable?

As the last couple of weeks have shown, there are still a lot of fans who only see the last weeks result and start complaining. The bigger picture is the long term success of the club which is what Randy is aiming for.

:flag: the best run club in the land

  5. I'll fourth it! Reading that statement from Leeds made me so proud, whatever happens in the next few years, for good and bad, I can only thank yourself and the rest of the board for doing so much good for our club.

Best board in the league? I think so.

Add me to this. Our club oozes class, unlike a lot of others.

Yep. Very proud of the club lately. 8)

Have to agree. It great to see that with all that is wrong with Football and with the current financial climate, MON, RL and the board don't have to lower their standards and professionalism.

I guess RL and the General are from the old school that believes that a handshake is worth more than a signature on a contract.

Mark Hughes should take note, all your money can't buy you class.

    :D

  6. How does this get one over on the Villa. St James Park, holds 52,000, is full most weeks, and look what happen to the toon.

Villa Park is classic example of how a modern ground can be improved while retaining it's architecture and history.

Let the Jiz Mag magnet have his souless concrete and steel white elephant. The red brick and stained glass of Villa Park will always be superior.

  7. Great Article, and it says exactly why I think that the RL/MON partnership is the way forward. Winning the premiership is one thing, but the real challenge is creating a club that can be fighting for the top silverware every year. Fergie has done it at Man U, every year they seem to start badly and people write them off, but by XMAS they are always in either first or second place.

That's what we must aim for if we are to regain our place again in the top echelon of English football, it's a long term goal and won't happen overnight, but with the current Board/Manager/Coaching Staff we have the best chance of achieving this. So if results start going against us don't immediiatley start booing or demanding change. Don't forget it wasn't until his 4th season in charge of Man U that Fergie actually won something (FA cup), before that the fans and the media demanded that he was sacked. However the Man U board looked at the long term, saw the potential and have become the biggest club in the world.

So ask yourself do you want to be a Spurs who change their manager as often as they change their underwear and pick up the occasional Carling cup or do you want to be an Man U who stick with a great manager through thick and thin and become the most successful club in the world.

I know my preference and I'll gladly buy everybody a pint as we celebrate our second consecutive Champions League Trophy

  8. Hi General,

We know that Randy Lerner prefers to avoid the spotlight, but this forum alone demonstrates that your good self is the spokesman for RAL and their running of the mighty AVFC.

My question is that as one to the most "colourful" directors of any football club (4 star general and Commandant of the USMC) have you been approached by any of the uk sporting media , sky sports, bbc football focus, Radio 5, etc to give an interview? Would you give an interview if asked?

  9. In the dark days of DoL and the bastion of sorrows that was Villa Park, when people used to ask me if I followed football, I would reply, "No, I'm an Aston Villa Fan".

Now I'm proud of our club, and it is OUR Club, we don't have the ego of Abromavich, the incompetence of Gillet & Hicks or the debt's of the Glazier's. What we have in Randy Lerner is a quiet man who wants to let the manager manage and create a legacy for all Villa fans present and future enjoy.

If professionalism and common sense were criteria for judging a clubs size we would be the Biggest club in the world!

Proud History.. Bright Future ? Well the future is already here, and we all better put shades on because it's going to get a whole lot brighter.

  10. Hi General,

You give a lot of praise to MON :notworthy: (jusifiably so) but what about a word about John Robertson and Steve Walford, they have contibuted significantly to the Villa turn around in the last 2 years. They are MON's righthand men and have been with him since the Leicester City days. When we signed MON I heard a Celtic fan say that we hadn't just got MON we had the Holy Trinity, high praise indeed.

One question which might solve a pub debate. Villa signed MON a couple of weeks before the RAL deal was announced, I cannot believe that MON would have signed for the former regime (I personally thought that he had been bought out of Celtic by the Glasier's to replace Fergie), Did RL meet and discuss his plans with MON beforehand. i.e MON signed knowing that RL would buy Villa?
