  1. Well, I finally got round to Old Boy.

Good movie. Not quite the masterpiece that is often claimed, but enjoyable. My only criticism is that it wears its influences a bit obviously - a bit of Godard, a bit of Kubrick, a bit of Leone, a bit of Tarantino. [1] It's like a film studies project.

[1] EDIT: And no doubt, a whole bunch of far eastern directors I know nothing of. I notice that it did have the inevitable fight scene where the hero is surrounded by the bad guys and they come at him one at a time so he can drop them. Yawn.

You mean the scene that was done in one shot? it bloody genius. Also the greatest twist of all time, no?

I bet you love the hollywood remake.

  2. Must say I feel uneasy about the honey trap thread; I don't find it funny at all

    Me neither fella.

Strikes me as a bit childish to be honest, although once I saw the direction the thread was taking, I left and haven't been back since.

It ws funny when I was the inbred pic... but I agree it has gone downhill since.

I am word removed and I love VT are classic tho.

  3. Just watching essential killing

Not bad there isn't really any speaking in it so it's alright to watch whilst having a bit of a drink and a chat (yes I am having a drink and it's only 11:20 but I'm on holiday so it's aloud)

I though you said there was no talking in it.

  4. Well, cince I am not able to move too much (other than take a taxy at work) after breaking my leg, I have a lot of time to watch movies.

So I decided to watch the Colours trilogy, directed by Kieslowski.

Saw "Blue" first, then "White" and then "Red".

What an amazing trilogy. Made me think what I miss out on of movies, when I usually watch American Hollywood movies.

Will watch more of those great European director's movies.

    Yeah, great films.

  5. I went to see an advance screening of 'Cowboys and Aliens' last night. It was one of the worst films I have seen in a long time and I'm glad I got to see it for free. I was tempted to walk out as it was so bad. Usually even bad films have at least one good scene going for them, or something. This film had nothing and was flat all the way through. Very poor film and it pretty much shows that Favreau really has no talent as a director...

Its one of those films you know is gonna stink simply from the name!

It could have been great. I knew it would go.

  6. I've been picking my way through one of those Sega Classics Collections of late. It's an almost cathartic experience for me, as I didn't own a console until the PSX and always had to watch on wistfully at my friends' houses as they played their Master Systems and Mega Drives.

Finished Shinobi III last week, I can't get over just how good a game it was. At times infuriating, in that wonderful way that games used to be (really can't imagine I'd have been able to complete it in it's original format without that save function :D) but there was just so much to it. I should have probably found some instructions online or something, as I didn't even realise you could execute a mid-air flying kick until about level 3.

A week prior I'd completed the first Sonic (again, the first time in my life I'd actually had a decent session on it), I'm just mulling over what to play next. Probably gonna give Comix Zone a go, though I'm open to suggestions. The options are:

    • •Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle

    Alex Mother Fuggin Kidd....

Epicly long game with no save function and only ever 3 lives. I remember once as a boy my dad taking a week off work during the summer holidays and trying to complete this game. Only way to save was to press the pause button on the master system console itself, unplug from the TV and cover with a card board box to prevent any1 accidently pressing the off or pause button.

He managed to get to the final level in the castle and managed to hook up the VHS to record his progress only to die right before rescuing whoever it was you were meant to be saving, can never remember... My 6 year old self was devastated for him. Ive never seen my dad cry but i bet if i wasn't there he may have shed a tear.

I love games these days but old schools games were solid.

  7. I dont think its a coincidence that the demise in quality has been greeted with a rise in popularity of the show in America. Definate correlation.
