Another game against a 'top side' where we come away with absolutely nothing. Some positives for sure, but so bloody frustrating.

Even more so when I have to look at that smug **** Arteta's face 🤢🤢

Could have easily been 3-6. Watkins scoring again is good news but our inability to keep the ball and being dodgy in defence shows again.

I don't want to turn this into a big thing. Mings had been good this season and is our best....but you don't. You never see defenders head the ball blind into your own penalty area centrally.

Exactly, it was a poor header straight into the danger area.

Gerrard out now, but I think we perhaps need a clean slate, so….

First Team Coaching staff out as well

Finally, whoever comes in, make Mings or Martinez captain.

Martinez please not Ming's. He might do the odd weird dance but he's captain material. Sell McGinn and buy someone good in CM before the window close.

Why does anything need to be read into the score? Bournemouth we’re eventually going to have an emotional drop after the excitement of returning to the PL, just did it against a Liverpool team who desperately needed a win.

The same Liverpool team we put 7 past two seasons ago.

Why does anything need to be read into the score? Hope you're being sarcastic. Also that game was behind closed doors when players were all weirded out and labelled " silly Saturday" for a reason. Those results never happened since.

I don't think you can correlate much from one game to another. Norwich beat Man City 2019, but the teams that beat Norwich don't have an expectation to subsequently beat Man City.

We have issues, no doubt about it, but we can't extrapolate much from the first game of the season. If so, Liverpool and Man U would be relegated, a s Brighton will be champions.

We all know what palace can do and how good zaha is but did we do anything about it?

  6. Seems a lot of people are happy to lose to Bournemouth and the likes and get the odd win against spurs or Chelsea every now and again and finish 14th every season. IMO we should be beating these teams week in week out. They should be our bread and butter. But hey I can see why Villa park is a pit of misery ATM. People are just accepting us being crap, no ambition.

Someone said in reply " to that's not how football works" Well yes it is. That's why the best teams finish higher than relegation fodder, but if we can't beat relegation fodder then guess what we are?

  7. As per title, Liverpool just showed us how out of their league they are but we lose to them 2-0. I'm not saying we're in anyway close to Liverpool in terms of quality and manager etc but we still shouldn't have lost to a side like this. Even look at palace today, they took a 2-0 lead against city because they are very attacking but they end up losing 4-2 due to better managerial decisions at half time etc. I'm not sure if Gerrard can work things out like that. Rant over.

  8. I really have no idea what this is about? It would have made sense if he had bought a left sided winger if he wanted to change the system but right side? We have way too many people for right side of midfield. Mayve i'm missing something?

Tbh, I voted “sack” but I would give him another 5-10 games. I agree with others that panic sacking managers isn’t sensible and can put off future managers & players from joining.

I agree but i really don't see this turning around. I hope i'll be proved wrong but i doubt it. We'll give him a fair chance and by then we'll be just above the relegation zone and another wasted season.

He's limited. He's a decent striker for a midtable team and that's his level. Nothing wrong with that. However he isn't going to be leading the line for a team in the top 6 getting 18+ league goals a season regularly.

Finally someone who's realistic. I agree 100% he's a mid table striker. That's what we're aiming for this season. You got to crawl before you can walk.

He's not an intelligent player no matter who we're playing. Dribbling and pace is half decent and workrate is incredible, but he will always frustrate.

If he has the service he'll score goals. It was damage limitation from the start. We had no shots on target but you can't blame it all on him.

First half, nothing was sticking for him.

Second half was much of the same, until they scored and he had more support around him as we were forced to attack more.

I think we were way too long-ball minded this game and Ollie's hold-up play simply isn't good enough to rely on him to that degree.

Well thank god Gerard is forcing them to play from the back. You could see them trying that against city and it didn't work so well, due to them being city and pressing us when we had it. You can't have a play from the back team with our current defenders sadly.

I just think he was disappointing today in many aspects and he lost the jersey today with that performance and Ings should get the opportunity.

    We were playing Liverpool ffs.

  14. General,

You say that we're aiming for champions league football still. Yet how can you back this up? We can't compete with Man City, Spurs or Liverpool with spending or wages.

Lerner has spoken in the past about a sell to buy policy yet we have one of the smallest squads in the prem. He also spoke about the merits of focusing on young talent. While we have some great talent coming through, selling young talented players like Milner and Young would simply contradict this. I don't want our club to become a feeder club for the top four.

So how exactly are we going to compete for Champs league, what strategies have we? Can you not understand fan's frustration at hearing our top players being touted to be sold to "bigger" clubs? To me this just shows complete lack of ambition. This is not the actions of a club vying to compete for a champions league spot.
