  1. I do think midfield is weak and needs addressing, especially in the wide departments

That the midfield is "Weak" is the understatement of the centuary but we need to stick with Lambert a it's the constant managarial change combined with Lerners scaling back of investment thats got us in this situation.

  2. Hansen on MOTD said 'I dunno where Villa go from here, they were embarrassing.'

Lambert needs to be sacked now as we are worse than last season and that takes some doing.

Sack him and replace him with who exactly? Pep Guardiola inst going to pitch up here any time soon and even if he did there not a lot he could do with this midfiled.

  3. We need to stick by Lambert, it's the start of a very long journey to turn this club around but I still feel he i the man for the job.

However, the current midfield is truely shocking; KEA aside, the rest which he has inherited are championship at best. Just think, a few seasons back we had Barry, Petrov, Young and Milner. WIth the current midfield no manager could do any better, they just arnt good enough - Delph, Ireland, Bannan, Albirghton, N'zogbia all need replacing. I hope Lerner releases some funds in January to allow Lambert to rebuild the midfield or we could be in trouble. A ball winner to partner KEA in the middle is essential.

A quick word on his summer signings of Lowton and Bennett; I thought Lowton was one of the few plus points today and I think Bennett will come good. I suspect Westwood & Bowery will disapear into the sunset.

  4. Watching the game today it's clear we lack quaitly all over the pitch, we have a first team made of squad players. Everton were stonger is every department.

We need a minimum of four players who can walk straight into the first team and improve it, priority has got to be a DM and a wide player who can delver a decent ball. Young and hungry might sound great we need a couple of players who are the finished article and provide some experience.

Only player that looked any good today was KEA. There needs to be some serious activity this week or Lily Savage might well be proved right!

  5. Home fixture against someone like QPR, Fulham or Norwich please.

Dont want a promoted side, they always seem to have their dander up for the first couple of fixtures, then reality hits.

It would also be good to get a couple of the big guns out of the way early, with all the internationals they have they always seem to start slowly following international tournaments.

  6. Lambert all the way for me, two consecutive promotions followed by a solid first premiership season. The man is a winner, was as a player and now as a manager. Also has a bigger profile within the game than most other candidates mentioned.

My worry over Martinez is that whilst Wigan finished very strongly, why on earth did they leave it so late in the season to start showing what they could do?

I cant see Rodgers leaving and there is no chance of AVB, he''ll want a club with European football already. I dont think Randy would consider another ex Blue Nose - so that rules out Bruce (thankfully) and Hughton. Rafa would want to much cash to spend and both Curbishly and McCarthy hardly meet Fualkners desire for a manger to bing back the vibrancy.

So it got to be ...

Paul Lamberts Claret and Blue Army!

  7. I'm sure if we had this lot back we could make an impression!

    -------------------Rimmer---------------------

    Delaney---McGrath----Laursen----Staunton

    Morley-----Cowans-----Mortimer-----Shaw

    --------------Withe---Yorke-----------------

  8. I couldnt give a rats arse where he came from. If he had come from SHA with a successful record and reputation for attacking freeflowing football I'd be delighted to take a blues manager.

However it's sitting there for two hours bored, watching turgid, unentertaining football that fails to deliver results week in, week out, at £40 a time thats stopped me going. I gave him a chance and went to matches in the first half of the season but the Man U match was the end for me. I've not been back since and wont be at VP again until he's gone.

I've spent the money I've saved on Download & Pearl Jam tickets! Much more entertaining.

  9. We just need to bite the bullet and get this deal done. I think getting Nzogbia in is critical to this seasons success, he will help fill the void left by Ash to supply the amo to Bent and his ability in the Prem is proven so can hit the ground running. McGeedy and Vargas are unknown in the prem and will need time to settle. Need to get Nzobia in as soon as possible so he has as much preseason with the squad as we can give him.

Even with Nzogbia I still think we are short of a quality CB (Dann. Samba) and centre MF at the very least to achieve anything above mid table.

  10. Hi General

I read with interest the comparison with American Football and whilst i think it is a laudable approach I dont think it will ever yeild a club capable of finishing above 6/7/8th in the Premier League.

There is one major factor that PL clubs need to contend with the NFL clubs dont and this scews the playing field even more than mega rich owners - the Champions League.

It's created a glass ceiling and the only way in is via heavy financial investment. As we well know the lure (and money) of the CL for the players is impossible to resist and the best players will just not stick around long enough to allow a club to strengthen and evolve over time. The best players that come through the academy will soon be off should a CL club come calling!

I think our best bet would be to get together with other PL clubs in a similar position - Tottenham, Everton, Sunderland etc and even Liverpool (plus other Eupean clubs who find the same in thier leagues) and lobby for an expanded all inclusive European competition. Scrap the UEFA League (nobody is interested) and have an expanded Champions League - whilst it wouldnt smash the glass ceiling it would make it bigger for more to jump on board!

Could split the competition at the half way stage to create the European Champions trophy and a secondary UEFA cup comp. An expanded Champions League place for the FA and League Cup winners would also reinvigerate the domestic competitions.

  11. Hi General,

Dont know if you've seen this latest bit of "news" in the press? More Negative Crap

I know it's just the press spinning things to suit thier own agenda, the real story is proably more like Randy just trying to get a reasonable settlement. However, we do seem to be on the end of a media kicking at the moment; our selves and Arsenal are flavour of the month in this respect.

This constant bombardment cant be doing our commercial interests and morale (both player & fans) any good.

Could I ask your good selves to take the fight to them and go on the offenseive? Maybe get the PR guys to start "leaking" some good news stories!

On another note, I'm glad to see you have persevered with posting on this and other sites, cant have been easy over the last season but it is a unique forum for fans to have a direct line of communication to the board and much appreciated by this Villan.

    UTV!

  12. They turned down £12m in Jan from Newcastle , surprised if he goes for £9m

True, but they knew at the time if he went in Jan they would be in trouble - now he only has one year left on his contract so the value goes down and at least they are now in a better place to bring in a replacement.
