  1. General,

this is bad. I like GH, he seems like a well educated guy, but the lack of respect he has shown to AVFC thus far leaves me dumbfounded.

If he stroked the LFC sign, applauded the Liverpool fans, ignored the Villa fans and really said what he is quoted as saying after the game, then the man no longer has my support as manager of Aston Villa.

For what it's worth, I was a staunch MON supporter and was bitterly disappointed when he left, yet I understand this was beyond the control of the club as MON is his own man and chose to leave us high and dry so close to the season that it gave us no hope of really achieving anything this year. The AVFC board has shown that it's amongst the best in the league, so we have utmost faith in Randy, your good self and the whole crew to get the house in order.

But for his conduct this evening alone, GH has sealed his own faith.

  2. G'day General,

let me see if I can raise a minor issue regarding the official site. There was some discussion a while back about attendances for certain games and I'm assuming the life blood of AVFC is to get bums on seats regularly.

Surely we could simplify the Online Sales process, for the 'newbie' visitor to avfc.co.uk, to make it ridiculously simple to purchase tickets without having the Sales page 4-5 clicks away from the initial splash/homepage. I guess I'm talking about a big, unmissable "Click Here To Buy Tickets" somewhere on the homepage permanently.

I understand registration is essential to vet fans and ensure no away/troublesome fans get access to home areas, but if the club is trying to attract new fans to go with the new Villa then perhaps we could make it as painless and user-friendly as possible?

You never know, you might get some ticket sales on impluse (like most of mine) and before you know it, there's another Villan born.

    Just a thought!

  3. General this isn't a question on the forbidden subect, but is there any chance you could shed some light on the Shaun Maloney situation, we all rate him very highly despite his well documented home sickness. His absence from the action lately has started the chinese whispers.

The guy is an absolute talent but has struggled to settle since his arrival, if he was to find his feet we all know we'd have one helluva player on our hands.

  4. 2. I hate to see booing of any player.

And similarly we hate to see public bashing of the Manager!

General do you see a way back for Gareth after all that's been said and done or is it generally accepted within the club that his eventual departure is inevitable? If the protracted move should fail to materialize for whatever reason or the asking price isn't met, what then?

  5. General what's your own view on that whole FIFA foreigner rule? Also in a mildly related topic, what's your thoughts on the latest quotes from Platini:

I can't say that we will miss the England team (at Euro 2008)," he told L'Equipe.

"That would mean that we believe Croatia are a poor team. It is their own problem that England cannot finish among the top two places in a group of six teams.

"Football at club level is completely different to the international game. Except for Italy and Germany, the winners or finalists at the last two World Cups have been countries that export their players.

"I am very concerned by the buying of clubs by foreign investors. I can't see why Americans want to invest in these clubs, except to make them into a money-making product.

"It is a never-ending search for money, leading to the proposal of a 39th fixture abroad.

"The aim is not to win titles, but to pay back debts. Look at Chelsea and Manchester United's debt problems. Fifa and Uefa have to fight against that, because today the ones who cheat are going on to win.

"Is Champions League success based on who has the most money? I think so, and that bothers me.

"We have to find ways to help other clubs sort out their problems. Defeat must no longer mean financial disaster."

Do FIFA have any clue what's going on at VP or do they just think it's some phantom venue that only holds FA Cup Semi Finals? With the Acorns thing and everything else, statements like the above from football's governing body must surely leave a sour taste?

  6. General just on the European footy thing, it looks like we'll only get 6 days notice of our opposition in the Intertoto..hardly enough time to sort travel arrangements to the a***hole of nowhere in Europe! Any "official" travel packages would be most welcome, I can understand the difficulties though.

    Hey...it's a nice complaint!

  7. General,

with the recent furore over season ticket renewals, it should be noted that SSN have just reported the most and least expensive season ticket costs in the Premiership. Obviously the Top 4 were all upwards of £750. Wigan were cheapest with AVFC next. That's phenomenal considering the season's achievements and where the club is working towards.

    kudos!

  8. General sorry to echo everyone else's comments, but we witnessed something special today. MON and his warriors deserve full credit, we have not seen performances like that since Inter Milan came to town in '95 or since our '96 cup win.

If we make Europe next season General, I think you can be sure most of us have our overnight bags packed :D
