  1. Very optimistic. Watching the team gelling with the new signings at the end of last season was fantastic and Reo Coker will be huge for Villa. If we make the correct defensive signings I'd say we'l finish between 4th and 8th. :D

  2. I know I'm a bit late with this but I can't believe people getting excited with Nakamura. Ah well, if we buy him etc. But still... :?I think I have to reduce my hopes for new signings this summer. Not that I really thought we'd get Sneijder but if Nakamura is a first choice then I think Koumas could be seen as a quality signing, and if Koumas is that, well, nice to be a mid-table team next season too. I know this is a rant, and maybe a harsh one at that, but if you guys think that Nakamura and Koumas are the players to take us up to the CL you're a bit deluded, me thinks. Yes, Nakamura has played in the CL. For Celtic. A team that has no competition in their league and gets directly to the last qualifying round. Maybe had a decent game against Man Utd, but that's not really proving anything. What proves quality is when you're playing consistantly good against good opposition week in, week out. Not having a good game in one big game, and then be fairly good against shite teams. The midfield isn't where we should buy back-up players in the age of 28-29. There we should either get hot prospects with loads of talents, as NRC, or proven players that are better than what we already have. We should IMPROVE, not back up. See what I mean? So I really hope that this Nakamura-rumour is only just that. I really do. I'd say that the SPL is not better than the swedish Allsvenskan and I wouldn't want any of the more experienced top players from there. Hot prospects if there are any, yes, not any of the more expereinced players cause they're experienced at a lower and worse league, not PL-standard.

Ok, rant over. Now, did I hear someone say Sneijder? ;)

You rant needs paragraphs. And stop taking random transfer links (good or bad)as gospel.

  3. That Sneijder link wont go away.

Because each story basically copies from the previous....

Mon was actually at an Ajax game the other day to watch Sneidjer though so i think it would be frivolous to assume that this story is purely a fabrication by Bill Howell simply because of the notion that he may read this site, this link has been hanging around for ages and no-one from the club has denied it, i for one hope we get the kid and i'd like to think Mon feels the same.

Give us a link. Also where he confitms Sneijder as a target and not 1 of the other 21+ players on show, please.

  4. People don't realise that teams around us have these decisions every week, we've just been starved of a squad for so long that we presume that 5midfielders mean ones either gunner be out the door or dropped every week.

Look at it this way, Newcastle this season had: Solano, Milner, N'Zogbia, Emre, Parker, Butt, Duff (and they all played alot)

Spurs: Jenas, Lennon, Murphy, Ghaly, Huddlestone, Zokora, Malbranque and Tainio (all played alot)

Pompey: Mendes, Davis, O'Neill, Lauren (from January - although he played alot at fullback), Krancjar, Taylor and Hughes (all played alot)

Two of them teams didn't have Europe this season....

I think that there was alot of times when players such as McCann were playing through the pain barrier, something which we wouldnt have to do if we had a bigger squad

    You sound confused.

  5. Koumas and Bellamy, or Sneijder and Huntelaar? I know which pair I'd choose to pursue and I also think our credibility as an ambitious club depends on positive media reaction to our signings.

Huntelaar you're kidding right?. Isnt Sneijder primarily a left winger which we dont need?. People need to get a sense of perspective. It's amazing that if a player linked to Villa isnt some world star he's slagged off to high heaven. where the hell has all this bullshit come from?.

Plus Sneijder plays in the middle for Ajax and he can play on left on occasion. Lets say for arguments sake Huntelaar and Sneijder are out of reach. That still doesn't make Championship players any more desirable. Spurs should be our barometer in that they are a big club without Champs League and with money to spend. Whilst Koumas is a good player he's a Middlesbrough level player at best. You dont need to be a world star to get the pulse racing but you do need to have a certain level of ability.

I think posters have already ably demonstrated that he is a good player. Read back and learn.

  7. The only thing I'd be slightly worried about is that NRC has allegedly got his heart set on a move to Newcastle. And we already know what he's like when his head is not in the right place. If he moves here, will he be seeing it as a bad 2nd choice ?

Allegedly set on Villa aswell. Tons of potential. Any player with the strife at West Ham this season would of been tested. Reo Coker, Barton or Parker= Reo Coker by a country mile.

  8. ... Jol's not daft. He realises, as do the Spurs fans, that Zokora hasn't delivered what he'd wanted - hence they may well nip in for Reo Coker.

    ...

Zokora has had a reasonably good season for Spurs - not great, but OK overall. However, this has been only his first term in the Prem and most (not all) players take some time to adapt. His performances during the 2nd half of the season were certainly better than the first half and most Spurs fans can see his talent and potential and think he'll be much better next season. I imagine Jol thinks the same.

As for Reo--Coker, there are conflicting ITK reports as to whether or not Spurs are interested. If I had to guess I'd say we're not, since I doubt he'd want to come simply as a squad/cover player and there seems no obvious place for him in our starting XI. If this is correct, and if Barton goes to Newcastle, then it seems Villa will have little real competition for NRC. It sounds like a definite runner to me.

    How condescending is that!

I dunno. I think it's pretty fair. Though I'd much rather have Reo-Coker starting in my midfield than Jermain Jenas. Jenas reminds me a little bit of Steve Davis. Great in spells, works hard, good attitude but overall contribution - insufficient.

Anyone else think this Reo-Coker business may be worthy of the first individual 'RUMOUR:' thread of the summer?

He is very good. He's got it. And yes.

  9. ..Davis rumoured to be leaving and being told he is not needed etc.. ok he is young and showed a good season 2 yrs ago and dispite being in and out last season its not suprised many that he is going, yes a few dissapointed faces none the least..

it's down to moore in a way if he is happy to play on the bench still and wait for his 'break again' if that would be the case or wanting more games etc.

Personally if it was down to him and he wants to leave then he would be making one massive mistake!

But if Moore leaves/sold due to the fact he is not needed/part of plans etc, will that put a crack in the way we look at MON?

Ok not calling for him to get sacked if it happened, but i will bet that a large % of us fans won't be happy with him big time imo.

Claret and Blue tinted glasses?. I'm certain Ridgewell and Davis lack the talent unsure about Moore yet because of his position. I think all Villa youngsters have been vastly overhyped. If these 7 or 8 youngsters were as good as people say. Top 4 would of happened this season. Think!
