West ham forum....... some posters  think we was lucky to win and they were dominant from the 34 min to the 70th! Not sure what game they watched, goes to show how deluded some fans are I suppose.

Well objectively speaking looking at the flashscore stats (xp, shots, corners etc) we 'should' have won 2-1 but we CLEARLY edged the stats. So their only argument could be that the score was a bit flattering but we definitely deserved to win.

  2. Hes perhaps the biggest star we have maybe ever and is one of the best keepers in the world and he raises the profile of the club big time BUT I have always found his distribution slow and limited. Its improving but that is the main reason he is not at Oilchester City or Bankruptalona etc. Thats probably why Arsenal were willing to let him go too as it is such an important part of the modern game. Dont get me wrong I'm pinching myself we have him just pointing out what i believe (I could well be wrong) is his achilles heel.

  3. Depressing and frustrating in the end. Coutinho and Ramsey both deserved better. A match winning turn from both of them. Defensively disappointing. Rio Ferdinand called it a collapse in the BT studio and hes not wrong. Reminded me of the latter parts of 'that' game against Wolves where every time the opposition attacked there was a panic and a sense of inevitability that goals would fly in against us. Ollie not the same as last year. Would like to see Ings get more of a chance. But positives are that Coutinho is still in his prime. Did not expect to replace Grealish so soon but we may well have.

  4. I thought we played well but was a bit disappointed with what seemed like our negative tactics. Plan A seemed to be to get the crowd frustrated and 'manage the game' to nick a point and maybe sneak a win. This disappoints me: (a) because of the way we played in the 2nd half against city and the whole match against Chelsea and (B) this is a team we beat 7-2 recently when we went after them

  5. I'd have him back with open arms if we could form a mutually symbiotic relationship again (ie he was still decent) as Aston Villa is the priority for me. I think the game had to be played regarding transfers, clauses etc in order to get a decent fee for Villa which puts us in a strong position over the coming years. But also he has that narcissistic fame craving which is okay too. I think the reason most people were devastated (me included) is he gave us an edge where we could have overachieved for a couple of years and even gone after top four but medium to long term like some posters have said it was probably better that this player moved on as he was papering over the cracks and stunting development of the rest of the squad. We are striving to move towards a place where Jack Grealish level players will be the norm. Everything depended on him while we were here and that is not good. I'm over him to be honest. I'd even clap him if I was over there in Villa Park because the possibility of getting him back while he is still decent might be good for Villa and because i dont feel he has damaged the club long term like it seemed in the summer. The next few years I think will prove this.

  6. Pity about the late flurry of goals but in truth Arsenal looked a different team from the start of the second half. And another positive is that we were missing at least two of our most influential players. But like a previous poster said Arsenal look like they could give out some proper hidings this season

  7. Good performance against probably the top dogs. It confirmed for me even further that we have now gone from relegation candidates to a solid mid-table team. It is so satisfying to see all our Villa teams improving every year. Scoreline a bit flattering for Arsenal. Two extremely clinical finishes and best that Hampton got that mistake out of the way when the match was probably gone.

  8. Sam might be a good machiavellian solution. WE SIMPLY HAVE TO GET OUT OF THIS F***ING DIVISION ASAP. The longer we stay here the more trouble we are in. The only priority right now is getting out of the division this season or next.

I have a hunch he is happy where he is, managing Ireland. He seemed to enjoy managing Villa. He just hated Lerner.

or when lerners backing completely collapsed pre-2010 he just bailed. Not sure it was anything personal in lerner and o neills personal relationship per se.

off-topic its a shame lerner didn't sell on then. he would have still been thought of in a good light and if we had been sold properly we might have continued to prosper as those days our stock was rising

  10. nah if we go for the wally with the brolly I might just call it a day as a villa fan ;-) Di Matteo in real trouble now after yesterday, not so much the defeat but the manner of it, tactics etc

I've only just switched on SSN and seen that we are getting beat, can someone sum up what I have missed please

Preston are good value for their lead. 7-1 over us shots on target and double also in shots off target. This is up there with Luton town and probably our worst performance in the league this season.

  12. the in-play stats are still against us. the only thing is that if preston don't get a second in this half than we could amazingly actually have a good spell in the second half and who knows. but we must survive this blitz until half-time
