  1. News of the sale was revealed by BBC reporter Pat Murphy, who said the likely asking price would be about £200m - which is £100m less than Lerner's estimated total investment in the club.

"This is the start of a process that will take some time," added Murphy.

"I understand no deal has been struck and that Paul Lambert is expected to fly out to the United States this week."

I take it from that - 1. Paul Lambert will still be in charge when the season starts

                                  2. No / Little money will be spent this summer

Its not looking good - other teams will sack their managers soon - WBA have already - the pot to pick from will reduce the longer the sale takes, and I guess that goes for available players aswell. I'm just a little concerned about the contracts of the players we have not yet renewed - Albrighton being one, are there any others ? as surely until things have been finalised no player will sign a new contract knowing that the new man in charge doesn't fancy him! (as in footballing terms before any wise cracks are made)

  2.

if there was a buyer we would know

Why would we? Perhaps the new buyer (if there is one) doesn't want his/their name to be released until a deal is finished? Or does that not compute in your 'facts only' logic?

why not say "talks ongoing" - no names needed to be mentioned?

Listen at the end of the day no one knows  - we are all only summising, I'm just taking a pragmatic view on what we do know for sure, all the rest is speculation.

Dazzyc, can you please use capital letters at the start of each sentence?

I suppose that is more visually pleasing and grammatically accurate ^^. Guilty as charged as well.

    Apologies!

I personally think a deal is at an advanced stage. Can't see Lerner releasing a statement like that if it weren't. I know not many on here give him much credit but he's not that stupid to say he doesn't want to own Aston Villa, but will continue to do so. He just wouldn't put himself out like that.

I also don't know why this discredits any ITK's on TBAR, to me a takeover is definitely happening, and it will happen this summer. It's just a question whether it's weeks or months.

I imagine Randy has been trying to sell the club for quite some time, not just starting today.

its just a question..........or years!! no buyer has been lined up - lets not kid ourselves, however nice it would be to get mega rich owners

Why has no buyer been lined up? Because Sky Sports told you so? Do you not think releasing a statement like this is a bit out of character for Randy? Why would Lambert pretty much tell the world he has no future at AVFC if Lerner was going to remain the owner?

facts are facts - we have not been told a buyer has been found - the statement says he has put the club up for sale - nothing more - why do you think we have a buyer when the facts say we havent - dont kid yourself with what you want to be true - if there was a buyer we would know - there isnt and thats why there has been no leaks, no concrete rumours - nothing - nada - nowt.....

But where does it say a buyer hasn't been found? Just because it doesn't mention one doesn't mean the other option is true.

Currently the only fact is that we're up for sale.

it doesnt say we have signed messi either so could that be true?

I think to save hundreds of pages of speculation we should wait for the next official anouncement - at least we can rely on what it says - rather than read into what it doesn't!!

I want a multi billionaire new owner as much as anyone - but this is the real world there are not many of those around! lets hope when we do find a buyer - and its before xmas with any luck - its an owner who see's himself as a custodian of this great club rather than trying to use it as a cash cow.... there was a lot of good things about RL lets hope we dont end up only appreciating what he has done for us when he is gone!! the grass isnt always greener.....

I find it baffling how some people who thought we were going to be sold now suddenly think we're not? (not just on here, in the whole Villa world). To me this statement is the biggest indication that a takeover is well on the way.

1.Because it confirms that Lerner has been trying to find a buyer -

2.Yet no buyer or potential buyer has been found

like many I beleive Lerner has been open to offers for a couple of years - but none have been forthcoming - he realises that £20m per season might not be enough to keep us in the prem - so to absolve himself of being attached to that - he's saying "Sorry - Over to the new guys'

My view is that we will have new owners by Christmas. I think the best we can realistically hope for is someone of Lerners wealth - but with a bit more footballing nous.....

What I fear is a cobbled together consortuim - that saddles the club with debt - and really just want a slice of TV money...

    this!

  8. Merrill Lynch is banking advising, not sales advising.  My best guess is, it's agreed in principle and cleaning up all the particulars.  (which were likely put on hold when it looked like we might drop.)

Someone above used the home buying analogy.  If you didn't have a buyer, you contract a realtor, not a banker.  IMO.

so its only now that the banking advisor is being hired!! cant see anything being lined up myself - no buyer - no interested parties, lets no play the kid ourself game, weve had enough of that this last month - i believe it could be a long wait until anything is sorted

  9. Just had an interview with one of the Daily Mail sports reporters on Talksport who said he had heard whisper of Redbull being one of the interested parties....

    That would be nice

"one" of the interesting parties.....haha it was being reported that there were no interested parties only a couple of hours ago - I know a day is a long time in polatics but heck and hour is a long time in takeover interest

ha ha everyone slating the itk's, cant see any negativity towards graham taylor who only yesterday stated that the villa had been sold!!!!

If you listen back, he said it was "tittle tattle" he wasn't the one actually welcoming and naming new owners.

must of read it wrong in the birmingham mail aswell then.......

  11. Bit strange for Krulak to make a statement too.

didnt you know he is the link between the club and the fans! always approachable, will relay messages back to the board.....zzzzzzzz...........that worked well didnt it?

  12. Relax guys. Lerner will use the time wisely to find a suitable buyer which is infinitely preferable to him accepting the first Venkys or Yeung bid that comes along. Whatever you think of him I believe he does have the club's best interests at heart.

Relax, enjoy the World Cup, and look forward to a new era for Aston Villa Football Club. It's going to be a good summer.

like he took the time to find us suitable managers!!! please dont rely on RL to find anyone suitable, it will be more luck than judgement imho!!

  13.

I'm not knocking anyone, but I find it strange how people can muster up such anger and hatred for Lerner and Faulkner. I'm not saying his whole time here has been a total joy, but we could have had a Carson Yeung.

And he has kept his word - at the takeover he did say if he couldn't take Villa forward he would go. He has done that and not hung around. Respect for that - no matter what your feelings - HE HAS put money in (more than you know who). He HAS NOT got us relegated (not for the want of trying or by luck - for the benefit of those who hate him) and he is leaving as soon as he knows he cannot take us forward. I wish him the best and I hope to god we get a decent bloke now - hope we don't regret this. Just as everyone keeps saying any other manager could do better than Lambert - Just hope the next owner can do better and we don't end up with a Vincent Tan etc. Then some will really have something to **** moan about!

whats he been doing for the last 2 years? only just realised he cant take us on????

  14. "this is the start of a long process" - this bit by pete colley worries me! if correct we will be favourites for the drop next season - very little investment, and even if there was which players would want to come to us atm with all the uncertainty around us - what happens if Lambert walks now? which manager in their right minds would come to us knowing there would be little investment, and he faced the sack when the potential new owners show up?
