  1. I live in Leeds so I had to get a family member to dash down today and get me a ticket. I think it's ridiculous that i couldn't pay for special delivery / collect from VP at the weekend, but thankfully i had someone at hand - i know others in my situation won't be so lucky.

Anyway, there were about 180 tickets left as of 5pm today apparently.

  2. I don't particularly like the way Benitez has conducted himself in the past, but for me he is on another level to the likes of Martinez, Coyle, Hughes etc.

The ideal (fantasy) choice would have been Ancelotti. My personal favourite is Moyes. However, as they appear to be non-starters, it's Rafa for me - he's got the best credentials out of the remaining candidates, despite his recent history being scarred somewhat

  3. Could any resident Evertonians tell me whether they think Coleman will play much this year? He impressed me a lot last season in the bits I saw of him (my mate is a Blackpool fan). Considering picking him for my fantasy team! Has he played much in pre-season?

  4. Suddenly, i'm not so keen for 2.2

Bah, bloody Vodafone. They've sneakily released a firmware update that includes tons of their 360 guff, at a time when people were expecting it to be the 2.2 update. Apparently, lots of Vodafone apps are installed to your phone and cannot be removed.

Thankfully I haven't had the update pushed on me yet, but judging from the anger on the Vodafone forums, I think i'll be politely declining it.

Rumours are though that the guff will be included with 2.2 anyway :x

Is this only a problem on HTC desire phones ?

    Yeah

  5. Oh, and now I keep getting "couldn't back up to SD card" errors on my phone, which then makes the SD card inaccessible. It seems the only way to resolve this is to format the card. Everything was going so swimmingly with my Desire :(

  7. 2007/8 we lost 10 league games

2008/9 we lost 10 league games

2009/10 we lost 6 league games.

It seems that as people can't complain about points total or league position they need something to have a go at the manager about.

What teams play consistent attractive football and are dominant? Man u and Chelsea aren't always great to watch but they get the job done, arsenal are great to watch and haven't looked a threat to the title for ages.

I thought city played better football than spurs last season but spurs way was more effective.

We don't play like arsenal but we're no where near as bad as some try to make out.

We lost 8 league games last season.

    09/10 Won 17 league games

    08/09 Won 17 league games

    07/08 Won 16 league games

There are two sides to every argument. Though we were marginally harder to beat last season (2 defeats turned into 2 draws), we aren't improving our victory tally. We're also scoring fewer goals every season.

    A downward trend?

  8. If he thought that the level of spend would ensure CL qualification then I would respectfully suggest he hasn't a clue of what it takes to compete at the top end of the table

But have we not been 'competing'? We were in the top 4 for much of 2008/09 until the infamous implosion, and last season we were only 6 points off 4th, so we have not been a million miles away - as I believe your comment above suggests.

However, O'Neill has been given decent funding three summers running now and he still hasn't been able to rectify our home form. I believe we finished 12th in the home league table last season, and 10th the season before that. If he'd even managed to provide top-6 home form we'd have been in one hell of a strong position for CL qualification.

I don't think Lerner's funding is the real issue here.

  9. We probably cleared the way for it by telling them that we like the chequered effect.

Could inspiration for the checks have come from our giant matchday flag? We did select the design of that after all. I think the kits are growing on me now the more I seem them; my initial reaction was quite reserved

  11. because they understand more what's on the test

I'm afraid that is the point of examinations, in a nutshell. I'd say the vast majority of people approach exams knowing they are stronger in certain areas of a subject than others, but the exam is designed to test your knowledge of a subject as a whole. Those that are hoping certain questions don't appear in order for them to pass clearly do not have a sufficient understanding of the subject and you can't blame 'bad luck' or otherwise.

  12. Great start, frustrating remainder of the half. We could relieve so much of the pressure from the opposition if we calmed down and kept the ball a bit more. I fear for the second half though if the pattern continues

45 minutes away from reaching 1,000 premier league points... :D

  13. Everton played some nice stuff last night, particularly impressed with Osman (he's always been one of those "meh" players for me before now) and Pienaar. They seem to play better football without Fellaini, from what i've seen

  14. Anybody else think we played it a bit differently in front of goal tonight? I know we still went wide an awful lot whenever we could, but I thought there was some really good stuff outside the box, particularly from Stan/Downing/Milner which created a few chances. It also dragged all the Everton players inside which allowed for us to have more space when we eventually did put the ball out wide. We didn't do it enough though, we still seem to go wide too much.

Yeah, this was good to see. It reminded me of the interchanging diamond formation we employed briefly at the end of 2007/08, keeping the ball when there is nothing on, rather than attempting another cross into the box. The trouble is, when we did reach the edge of their box, the midfielders needed some more movement from the strikers and they remainded pretty static (and central - probably awaiting the inevitable cross to come in).

I thought they breezed through our midfield far too easily again though - we always seem to be caught out the 'wrong' side and having to chase back, rather than being in position ready to defend.
