There is a case to be made for us going into the Europa League on sporting terms (not financial).
1) The Format has changed to be the same as the Champions League, ie 2 extra games in group stages and a 2 leg knockout for those in 9th to 24th. This essentially removes some of the jeopardy for the top teams and increases the prize pool.
2) No Champions League teams will drop into the Europa League in the new format, plus the 5th best Italian and German sides will also not be in it s they will go into CL. So the 2 teams from the PL who qualify will surely be the top 2 favourites for the competition
3) Having weaker European games for a club at the stage we are (when a European Championship was on in summer) will be a benefit to our Premier League performance and potentially our ability to make a go at the domestic cups.
4) Progression to Semi final or final stage in Europa League would bring good prize money and be close enough to the level we would get from going out in the playoff phase of the Champions League
5) Winning it is the biggest prize we can realistically win under Emery. We can't win the PL or CL and this is the 3rd best title available.
It is like saying that Birmingham City want league one because they can fight for promotion there. Or a better comparison, that Leeds will be in the Championship rather than the PL.

I think the new format helps us tbh. Going to get drawn with two teams from pot three and four so there is four games where we can pick up some points. Would like to think we could at least finish in the 9th - 24th bracket where we would make the play off round before the last 16. Not sure many of those teams would like to play Villa over two legs!
Totally agree. With the new format, we face just as strong opposition as, for example, Manchester City. This season, Newcastle faced three very strong teams and no weak ones because they had such a low ranking. We avoid that. Consider that Newcastle faced two teams that are in the semi-finals of the CL as well as one team that got as far in Europe as the top three teams in the PL.
An absolutely ideal year to reach CL for the first time.

If Emi is also out in the return match, I hope Joe Gauci sits on the bench. Should it end in a penalty shootout, we can swap him in for Olsen.
Olsen has only saved 3 out of 33 penalties. Saves 0,5 out of 5. ( on par with De Gea)
Joe has saved 5 out of 13. Saves more than 1 out of 5
Emi has 7 out of 36. Save 1 out of 5.

We'll probably get something at Brighton and against Liverpool - that puts us on 69, leaving Spurs needing 6 points from their next 4 to take it to the final week (I say final week as they play game 37 in midweek against Man City). Their next 4 are Arsenal H , Chelsea A, Liverpool A and Burnley H.
They'll batter Burnley, but the others are not easy. Spurs are so open, that I can't see them frustrating teams in the way that we did at Arsenal and Palace did at Anfield. They only play one way (mate) and that leaves gaps - Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea (as we saw last night) thrive when they're given space to play into.
Spurs have 18 points to play for. Difficult games. We got 15 points from the same games, only lost at Anfield.

Here are my likely outcomes of the rest of the games for us and Spurs for the rest of the season: Aston villa: Brighton 1-1 Liverpool 2-2 Palace 1-1 Tottenham: Spurs goals first. Arsenal 1-2 Chelsea 2-1 Liverpool 1-1 Burnley 3-0 Man City 1-2 SheffU 4-1
Both teams 70 points and 77-56 goal difference. If this ends up like this, which it certainly won't, then Tottenham will take fourth place in the number of goals scored in away matches between the teams. So we must have a better result than outlined. Most realistically, we take one more point. Win one of the ties and lose one, finishing with 71 points.

QuoteTown boss Rob Edwards says that Daiki Hashioka and fellow defender Alfie Doughty after available for Tuesday night’s FA Cup fifth round tie at home to Manchester City.
Japan international Hashioka has been impressing in training recently and could be in line to feature for the first time since joining from Belgian side Sint-Truiden in January.

I would start the next game in a 5-3-2 formation. Moreno and Bailey/Diaby on the flanks. Torres, Langlet and Carlos in central defence. McGinn, Kamara and Louiz central in the middle. Then we avoid using Cash

If we are to stay at Villa Park, we should ensure permission to build out both the DE and the North Stand. I am afraid that if we build the new North stand first, we will have a huge problem with building out the last stand.

The rule is already that the owner of the club must pay 90 of the 105 million from his own pocket. Either in cash or buy more shares in the club, as our owners have done many times. If the owner does not contribute money, the club cannot lose more than about five million a year.
The fact that there are three years that are looked at together means that it is much better to lose 35 million each year than to go to zero for two years and then lose 105 in one year. The loss of 105 is carried over for two more years, and means that you have to break even for the next two years. A loss of 105m means that you have to spend four years in zero to stay within the regulations, and are then limited to 105m in five years, and not 175m.

That badge looks huge. Unfortunately, everything points in the direction that our new badge is this, but in a smaller format. Saves the money on a new shirt. This season's kit destroyed by the sponsor.
