I think we might be getting a bit hyperbolic about how many points a good goalkeeper is going to earn us. Even if "more than 15 points as season" is just 16 points, that means our keeper has to make saves above and beyond what a standard keeper could not that either turn a draw into a victory 8 times (or turn a loss into a draw 16 times). There's only 38 games in a season.

Martinez is awesome but buying him alone would not have moved us from finishing 17th on 35 points to above Everton in 12th with 51 points last season. The reason we're flying this season is because all of our players are vastly improved, not just our goalkeeper.

If at the end of the season we can look back at the results and pinpoint 10 points that we earned specifically due to extraordinary saves he made at pivotal points in the game then that means he'll have had an incredible season for us. I think you'd need to build a brick wall in front of your goal if you wanted to see it earn you 15-20 points from goalkeeping alone imo.

For me who has already got us 6 points from the Sheffield United game and the Wolves game. There may be other games but those 2 immediately spring to mind in which he has a had a positive effect on the outcome of a match.

  2. For me Albrighton was poor today, his crosses were poor, few misplaced passes fair enough he got the goal but is nothing like the Albrighton of last year. I thought Hutton had a decent game, got forward well, few pass and moves. Ireland again was very good but the MOTM for me was Clark, calm on the ball doesn't rush it, good distribution and a great goal

    Guzan 6

    Warnock 3

    Dunne 5

    Collins 5

    Hutton 7

    Petrov 7

    Clark 8

    Ireland 7

    Albrighton 6

    Heskey 5

    Bent 5

    Agbonlahor 7

    Gardner 6

    Bannan 6

  3. Still have a sneaky feeling Ancelotti will be appointed before the end of the week regardless of the apparent year break he is supposed to be taking..

I have to say I agree with you there, maybe CA was trying to take the spotlight of him so he could finalise a deal with Villa, I mean there was a lot of speculation over the weekend and the DM seemed certain he was coming, there was also the planned meet at Villa Park to try and entice the board to get him. Now he says this on the day this is supposed to happen is a little wierd, I think he was covering his tracks until RL is in the country and they can negotiate properly, I think they are stuck in talks and each holding out for a better deal!

Probably totally wrong but thats my take on things!

  4. To be honest I wouldn't mind any manager who has done well in the Premier League, someone like Ranieri, Moyes, Hughes, Benitez. People like McClaren, Curbishley, Martinez just haven't cut it enough for me in the Premier League. I just want the appointment to be quick so that they have a while to prepare pre season, analyze the squad to see their strengths and weaknesses and more importantly to sort out the transfers!
