  1. O'Neill Throws Milner Under A Bus

Posted by Wallace Poulter 1 hour, 3 minutes ago

Welcome to Manchester City, James Milner. No deal has been agreed, but that's the only reasonable expected outcome after Aston Villa manager Martin O'Neill essentially threw Milner under the proverbial bus with a statement on the official Aston Villa website - so no possible claim that the former Celtic boss was misquoted.

It is, frankly, a quite an extraordinary way of doing things. In making the statement that Milner and his representatives have asked to go and said that they will not sign a new contract, O'Neill has created an atmosphere where it will make it impossible for the English international midfielder to stay. It would be fascinating to see City pull any offer off the table and watch the relationship with Milner and O'Neill, because it's completely done.

You only make this sort of comment, as far as I can see, if the intent is to force the issue. Rumours abound, and you know how much credence I give those, but it is said by the Guardian that Villa would like Stephen Ireland as part of the package.

Villa can have the Stephen Ireland of last year. The Stephen Ireland of 2008-09 should cost Villa Milner plus cash. If the Irishman goes and if O'Neill gets the best out of him it will be a stunningly good bit of business by Villa. Couple of ifs in that sentence but O'Neill is a good manager.

Well an easy way for him to resolve this is to say he wants to stay with us and will be signing a new contract if we offer him one...

Exactly. And he has NEVER said it.

Now he is angry that it has all gone public. And maybe he is angry at O'Neill but there should have been some direct communication man to man from Milner and O'Neill over this last two months instead it seems Milner's agent is handling matters and O'Neill feels no obligation to protect Milner's reputation nor his position in wanting to leave.

The agent has probably been trolling the message boards and seeing the lathering his client is receiving and is now trying to control the fall out by spinning some other tale. The one thing we know about O'Neill is that person after person after person has described him as a stand up guy and so if he says this desire to leave Villa was put on the table by Milner and his rep back in May then I accept that is exactly what happened. I believe Martin O'Neill before I believe an agent.

Absolutely spot on. You employed your (Mickey Mouse) agent Jimmy...now time to accept the consequences. MON and Villa are being bullied and want to sort this rapido so take your money and go north....it's been a pleasure.

Having watched the Damned United this week, Cloughie would be proud of you for this Martin

  3. Gen - hope you are well. Thanks for contributing to this site and others.

I bought my first ever season ticket last year (largely because my 6-yr old started to talk about Man U and that needed nipping in the bud), and have renewed this year. As tedious as it is to hear, I fully appreciate the needs to sort the wage bill and for Randy to feel like Villa isnt a complete drain of resources....if we ignore Man City's fantasy funds, the rest of the Premiership is living to their means.

So thanks to you and Randy and keep up the good work....I have one request....just one little one....please, please, please can we not have Carlos at RB next season....just have a little word for us all....

    All the best

    Joe

  4. cheers to all the posts.

i'm going to do the normal thing - park at the leisure centre and walk up...given the leisure centre is a nightmare to get out of at the end, leaving early is normally favoured....with they keep the scummers in at the end?

    up the villa boys!

  5. Rock on Gen. It was fantastic PR at the start, but we dont know how lucky we are to have you on here...thanks.

We've been there in the past and filled our team with past it 'have beens' (one was playing against us tonight). I'd take the small squad any day of the week when it's filled with quality.

Thanks again - I for one and happy to wait.

  6. Yo Gen

Would like to endorse that last point. I too was sat in the Trinity (B6) near Sheff U, and aside from the noise from the Holte when the 82's were out, you couldnt hear a thing for the whole game. Sheff U were noisy though.... are we quiet or is this a stadium problem?

Great day. Best I've seen in my 25 years of supporting. I'll be back and I'll be buying merchandise!

One last suggestion - why not limit the alcohol to bottles that can be immediately available? (waiting for pints to pour is tedious...) Throughput would increase and customers would be happy.... seems a no brainer..

    Cheers

    Joe
