He may have lost the captaincy and now his starting place so far this season but Darren knows how to score and his goals win us games and turn defeats into draws as was the case again today.

After a series of home defeats or at best draws we have a new experience. We have victory a remarkable and definite victory. Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning!

What's On Lambert's Mind This Week?

Sep 06 2012 12:15 PM | limpid in Articles

by Dave_Villa

So, Lambert has shown that he isn’t afraid of making the big decisions, by dropping the previously un-droppable Shay Given for the match against Newcastle. But what exactly are the decisions that will be grinding the cogs in Lambert’s mind on the eve of our next fixture, and how will this affect the shape, personnel and fortunes of our team?

Squad assessment

So with pre-season well under way, with 3 new boys in and the squad for the U.S.A. announced; I thought I would cast an eye over our current team, assessing the strengths and weaknesses and looking to where Mr. Lambert may well be looking to strengthen.

The transfer window slams shut next week and the money must be found now to back our new manager because otherwise our place in this division will again be at serious risk and it might just be too late to be able to turn things around by the time the next window opens!

Villa chase Defoe ahead of West Ham trip

Aug 17 2012 09:49 PM | limpid in Match Previews

Villa travel to Upton Park on Saturday for a 3pm kickoff to the 2012/2013 Premier League season. For all intents and purposes this should be an extremely difficult game for the Villans given that West Ham have the momentum of returning to the Premier League and Villa are still feeling the effects of Alex McLeish's soul-sapping tenure.

A Statistical Look at Villa vs West Ham

Aug 21 2012 07:50 PM | OutByEaster? in Articles

By VillaJay

There was a drastic transformation on show under Paul Lambert in comparison to former Manager Alex McLeish’s containing tactics. Villa were third highest possessors of the ball at the weekend with an impressive 65% of the ball and with 506 short passes Villa were only slightly behind Fulham, Arsenal and Man City and ahead of Liverpool in the passing stakes. In comparison to their hosts West Ham, Villa competed over 300 short passes more and attempted 4 through balls to West Ham’s zero.

We're passing the ball

Aug 19 2012 08:09 AM | blandy in Match Reports

by jimcohen

After 28 minutes at Upton Park today, the 3,000 Villa faithful clad in a mix of the traditional claret and "glow in the dark" neon green realised something was different about Villa. We were doing something that for 38 games last season, we very rarely did. Pass the ball!
"We're passing the ball, we're passing the ball! We're Aston Villa. We're passing the ball!"

Something to be happy about!

May 16 2012 02:54 PM | BOF in Articles

by JimCohen

The off season! I love it. After what has been one of the worst seasons I have ever experienced in 23 years as a Villa fan, we can now start speculating about who we will buy, who will stay, who we will play and who will be our manager. It’s great! We can forget the season just gone, draw a line under it as the players like to say, and think about the season to come. But I think we can draw a lot of positives from this season too. I will try and convince you that I am not mad.
