Its a huge mess at United, from top to bottom, and it'll take a long time to sort out. Even in recent times they're not putting the brakes on what everyone can see are stupid decisions. The mega money contract extensions for players not cutting it.

Seems like Ed Woodward is a big part of the problem so I'd start there.

Since OGS got appointed permanent manager they've taken on average 1 point per game, that's relegation form.

I actually have no idea where they will finish, could be anywhere from 6th to 16th.

They'll beat us of course, that's a given.

OGS is massively out of his depth but clearly only part of the problem. Their board is the main issue and their players are also poor.

In particular I have to say Rashford is appalling, no where near good enough and after > 170 games for them he has proved that, no football brain and cannot finish. Stick with players like that and you will win nothing.

Their recruitment has been appalling in the last few years and that's the root of the probelm. Couple that with keeping poor players like Jones, Smalling, Lingaard all on huge wages and you have a serious disaster. They need to get Ponchettino in next summer and give him £250m to spend. That might get them back in the champions league.

Solid defender by any means, but nothing special.

That's what you get for £80m these days. There just aren't any great defenders available anymore. Look at De Ligt, everyone thought he was the second coming, a bargain at £65m and he's been horrendous for Juve.

They need someone with power at the club, but who is also interested. OGS seemed to understand the issue last year. He talked about the bad culture and a clearout required of certain "types" of players (personalities). It hasn't happened for whatever reason. Has EW tied his hands?

If you're going to drop out of the CL for ma few seasons then you need to rebuild and come back fitter.

I think Jose could have been a good fit there if they backed him, and he wanted to be there. He could have cleared out the overpaid shite like Rashford, Lingard, Pogba, Jones, Smalling, Young etc and built something like he did at Chelsea first time round. Problem was JM was the same as the players they bring in, not really wanting to be there but they offered too much money to turn down.

Man United have 60 scouts at the club. 60!!!! There is no excuse for them blowing £80m on an extremely average central defender. There's literally millions of footballers to chose from, and MU have the money and status to attract 99.9% of them.

Would still do a better job than Rashford and Martial.

Yeah he wouldn't be a bad short term fix at all.

Still fiercely competitive and strong and still has an eye for goal. Lost a bit of spring in his step thou.

I don't know what is worse, spunking £100s of millions on washed up mercenaries or going into the season as Martial and Rashford as your No.9s.

About as criminal as Bruce going into the season with 1 CB.

So far out of his depth it is frightening that someone actually gave him a contract.

He should lose his job along with the entire board.

Would be utterly amusing if Real ended up sacking Zidane (along with his £80m compensation package) and replaced him with Mourinho.

Leaving the door open for Manure to sack OGS (and his no doubt hefty compensation package) and replace him with Zidane.

Unlikely but not impossible with Florentino Perez and Woodward involved.
