It's a squad game and Rooney has the legs of a 35 year old so shouldn't be relied upon to start every week regardless. He will have a part to play I'm sure.

Mourinho may not be one for sentiment, but he will see value in him as a member of the squad. Next season at least.

I know it's fashionable to bash Rooney, but I still think he's a good player who has matured well enough and never lets his club or country down. At least not for want of trying.

i didnt realise he'd played! was thinking earlier id probably never see him play in the flesh, forgot about that, inter team that day -

Julio Cesar; Materazzi, Samuel, Chivu; Cesar, Dacourt, Stankovic, Maxwell; Jimenez; Ibrahimovic, Cruz.

and all i can remember is that physio...

Rooney is on 300k+ p/w. He isnt going anywhere

Strangely that could well be the reason he does leave. Whilst he is in decline, he is still captain of club and country so his profile is still high. This summer might be his last chance to land himself a contract for the sort of money he has become accustomed.

Still got 3 years left on that contract i think which will take him to 33/34 years old. Doubt too many clubs in the world will be offering similar contract length for even 2/3 of the money. Dont even think rooney knows his best position anymore

he courted Rooney when he was younger and better, he is not a man for sentiment and dont think Rooney and Zlatan could play together

He wanted Rooney in summer of 2013 when he was already in decline.

Zlatan in the Prem, can't wait.

I remember seeing him against us in a friendly. We tried so hard but he still made life impossible for the defenders. Was a good job his teammates were terrible!

Funny how we remember things,,from what I can recall of that enjoyable game Laursen had him in his pocket all day albeit only pre season friendly.

Come the end of next season, he'll probably finish up being one United's best players.

UTD will miss out the top 4 again if thats the case.

I still think Rooney has something to offer, he's not the player he used to be, but then again he hasn't been the player he used to be, for a long time now. But he's still managed to reinvent himself a few times in his career.

You are right, he didn't dominate because of Laursen but I loved those moments when Laursen went for a nibble but Zlatan just pulled it away. Similarly on other players.
It's guess it's just how he keeps the play moving and not static.
I hope he's able to bring some of his best for United.

All those good players. And Olivier Dacourt.

was that when his agent said everyone wanted rooney but he showed his loyalty and signed a new £300k a week contract

:detect:

He signed it in January 2014. Moyes desperately wanted to keep him so lumbered United with him well into his 30s.

Just heard a bit from José in his press conference on Talk Sport. To summarise.

i) The reason Giggs left is not down to me, Ryan wanted the job that they have given to me. He wanted to be manager of Man UTD, Man UTD wanted me.

i) During my time as a manager, i have promoted 46 youth players to the first team.

i) I will bring 4 specialist players to the club, I'm not interested in multifunctional players that can play lots of positions, i want specialists.

i) Wayne Rooney doesn't score the goals he used to, but is he a number 6? No, i will not be playing him in that role. People tell me he has an amazing pass, 40/50 yards. I can pass 40 yards when there is no pressure.

If i was Wayne Rooney, I'd be worried about those last 2 points.
