Why did they keep winning games? Looked pretty average, even against 10 men.

They are better in both boxes than most teams....The outfield part of their defense is disorganised and the midfield gets overrun..

Bit of a contradiction, and as you point out Nays, they're a mess at the back - I don't think they're "better in their own box" than most sides are - they're weak at the back, but have a really excellent 'keeper.

You see, I hate it when people do that.  I specifically said about their goalkeeper and you crop that out of the quote just to say I'm contradicting myself?

Not to drag it out, but

Isn't it a bit contradictory that they can be, as Rev rightly pointed out "defensively disorganised " yet also " better in their own box than most other teams"

I agree with all Rev wrote part from the bit about them being better in their own box than most other sides. Given their stated weakness in defence, plus IMO just pretty ordinary defenders in terms of ability and concentration, I think it fair to ask whether there isn't a tiny bit of mismatch between claims they're better than most others in their box, and that they're poor at the back, basically.( Though often rescued by their great goalie)

I only asked. I wasn't trying to misrepresent or point score

Doesn't the fact that he mentioned their defence as being disorganized further prove "both boxes" refers to the strikers and the goalkeeper? It's just a convenient way of saying that De Gea and their strikers are keeping them up there even though everyone in between them is not up to scratch.

But he clarified that by "both boxes" he was referring to the strikers and the goalkeeper.

You've either mis read it, or are taking it too literally.

Typical Plastic United fans from Birmingham moaning to the Mail and Telegraph about rules Villa have in place in home area's, (Here's the Mall version)

http://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/aston-villa-stewards-kick-out-8335420

Christmas treat ended in tears for two Midland schoolboys – when they were thrown out of Villa Park for celebrating a Manchester United goal.

Isaac Thompson, seven and his brother James, nine, were sitting among home fans when they jumped up to celebrate Radamel Falcao’s equaliser on Saturday.

Their dad Laurie, who also celebrated the goal, said two women Aston Villasupporters “screamed” for the family to be booted out.

Stewards moved in and they were kicked out, leaving the boys in floods of tears.

Laurie, who lives in Bromsgrove, had paid £57 for the tickets and said he was “disgusted”.

He said: “One woman jumped up and scowled and screamed ‘get them out of here’.

“Another woman screamed the same thing.

“I said ‘sorry’ in recognition of the fact we were in their end.

“Everyone else around us was fine.

“But I could see the stewards coming down the stairs and one said ‘you’re going to have to leave the ground’.

“I said ‘come on mate’ and my seven-year-old burst into tears saying ‘I don’t know what’s going on’ and then my nine-year-old burst into tears.

“The vast majority of the Villa fans around were saying ‘guys, don’t be stupid’ to the stewards.

“I was telling them ‘I’m sorry, we’ll sit on our hands - please accept our apologies’.

“But they insisted on taking us out of the ground.”

Laurie, who looks after his disabled daughter at home, said he had previously taken his sons to watch United play at West Bromwich Albion without incident.

He said the trip was a Christmas treat for his sons and he had bought them a ‘half-and-half’ scarf before kick-off.

A Villa spokesman said segregation was “necessary” to ensure safety and away fans buying tickets among home supporters were ‘liable to be ejected for their own safety and the safety of the home fans around them’.

He said away fans would be ejected if it was not ‘feasible’ to move them to the away end.

He added: “During the ticket sales process it is made clear several times that any tickets purchased for home areas are for Aston Villa fans only and are purchased on that basis, and all turnstiles for home areas clearly indicate that the areas are for Villa fans only.

“Opposing fans buying these tickets is a breach of the terms and conditions of entry which are laid out on our website.”

Van Gaal complaining that he had less than 48hours to prepare for this game. All the managers have to you numptie so stop complaining. You knew that in England we play during the festive period before you got the job, so stop complaining you turkey-necked clearing in the woods.

But how can Manchester United go on a money spinning tour of the Middle East over Christmas if we don't have a winter break?

I agree. There should be a rule that if there was ever to be a winter break that clubs have to use it to rest the players and not be another revenue stream for the big boys.

Theres too many breaks in the season for internationals anyway. We'd have to reduce the number of teams in the Premier League to allow for a winter break unless you have a seaosn going into June or July. Its a no goer for me.

Premier League drops to 14 clubs

Premier League 2 with 16 or 18 clubs

Premier League 2 clubs get a half share of the TV deal

The "big" clubs get basically the same money as before with a less-congested schedule

The clubs for whom relegation is a major threat get protection from relegation
