Davkaus
Call me stupid, but won't this just push child porn further and further underground? Making the problem worse? It's hard to imagine it being anymore underground without it surfacing in Australia. Surely people aren't actually just googling for child porn?
Mantis
Is there a filter on my computer and TV to block out Tory cretins, can anybody help me? This has got **** all to do with parties. I haven't seen Labour or the Lib Dems rushing to oppose this idea.
Dr_Pangloss
What proportion of all porn is child porn? Probably a very small number. In terms of searches and hits, Porn as a category is by far the most popular on the entire internet, it is also big business. So I seriously doubt this will happen but even if it does it will be easy to get around. Moves to increase surveillance and police content by governments (and private companies for that matter) makes it all the more important for people to be increasingly savy with their computers and to understand how the internet works. What we don't need is a large number of mugs who are largely indifferent because they have "nothing to hide". They can **** right off. drat01
Yep, it's a populist move, doomed to failure but bound to get the short term votes of idiots who don't know any better. He's on a short term winner. The two scenarios are that a: he tries and fails but will continue to battle big business on our behalf and god bless you Dave for thinking of the little children. or scenario b: he actually thinks he manages to get something done, and all those blue rinses will be happy right up until the day the Mail front page announces that unbelievably, it turns out you can get around the ban. Either way, we'll be the other side of the election before its rumbled. Absolutely - it's just part of the many many myths that surround Internet content and how and what it can do. It's actually quite worrying what people think the internet as a entity can and cannot do. Maybe the monies and efforts would be better spent on education for the masses and how online access is a good thing in general and exploiting what is an obvious need and benefit for the UK in general
StefanAVFC
It really wouldn't surprise me if people were that brainless and moronic. Not usually fond of taking things from Facebook but I felt this as a good point. 'To be serious for a moment. All bans like this do is force it underground, not stop it. The kiddie porn pricks will revert to almost untraceable photos, homemade videos, and other primary source shit. It's better to keep it online where it can in fact be traced.' The biggest issue that they would have is a clear definition of what is porn. Is page 3, porn? (that would upset a certain Mr Murdoch), is porn just sexual content or could it also include violence? Will they ban violent images or ban computer games that simulate death? As religion plays a big part in defining policies so it seems, which religion will be used as the benchmark for what is and what is not acceptable etc etc Basically sound bite politics from an idiot in number 10

tonyh29
I thought about trying to explain just why I think this is an example of the worrying stupidity at the heart of most political policy but I shall just repeat my post in the ConDem thread instead: "One click to protect your whole home and keep your children safe." What a (stupid) dickhead you are, Dave. well you've not getting a duplicate like for it
Daniel
I wonder how many websites will get caught up in this? Sites like 4chan. Might as well block Youtube as i can find porn on there.

ozvillafan Posted July 22, 2013 VT Supporter Share Posted July 22, 2013 We had a similar idea not that long ago down here in Australia. It ended up dying a slow death as the idea of a government provided "clean feed" of the internet is technically impossible and fraught with consequences over privacy and freedom that were greater than the problem they were trying to solve. As mentioned by someone earlier in this thread: This is a parenting issue, not a government one.

tonyh29
I think it should be taken a step further and that if you want to opt in , it can't be done via the phone but only by going in person to a shop in the high street , with Neon letters saying "PORN SIGN UP SHOP" or something
