Voinjama
In the 2011/2012 season there were 7 managers born in Glasgow in the Premiership. Fergie, Moyes, Daglish, Coyle, McLeish, Kean and Lambert. Exactly and 4 of those have had very good managerial careers. Plus Coyle is back in the game now and did well for Burnley.
Zatman
Its not just Scotland though Ireland, Northern Ireland are the same in not producing enough talent and if being honest either is England. Its just the modern attitudes of people stopping players being developed. Do the youth of Uruguay or Bosnia have the luxuries of the kids in UK and Ireland like playstations, smartphones etc.

LondonLax
Scotland certainly punch above their weight in the manager department. The national team probably perform about as well as you'd expect for a country of their size.

TrentVilla Posted July 22, 2013 Moderator Share Posted July 22, 2013 I would argue Steve Keen never managed in the top flight

LondonLax
What about them? You know football doesn't work like that. It is kind of odd that it isn't more in line with the population ratios though hence the reason this thread was started. England and Scotland are both just regions of the UK, both have a very similar culture and shared history. Why to Scotland have, proportionally, a much greater number of top flight managers than England? Is it just a quirk of fate or is there some reason that can be pinpointed? Well, just becuase there are a lot of top-flight Scottish managers doesn't mean that all of them or even the majority of them are good, McLeish being a good example. Two different Scottish managers have won the Premier League but an Englishman has never won it. The league title has been won 66 times by English managers and 40 times by Scottish managers. The_Rev
Yeah, but you are dealing with sample sizes so small (especially if you are limiting yourself to twenty seasons of Premier League football) that the stats are easily distorted.
