VillaJ100
So these insufferable ars*holes are playing at Wembley from next year.
VillaChris
Well it's better than Milton Keynes.... I do remember when Arsenal moved their CL games there and it was not a success at all....will certainly inspire the opposition.

Yep seem to remember Batistuta ripping them apart and Barca giving them a spanking at Wembley in the 99/00 season, loved it.
S-Platt Posted May 28, 2016 VT Supporter Share Posted May 28, 2016 We need to get promoted if they are playing their home games at Wembley 2017/18 that would be interesting to see our allocation.
chakal
that makes no sense. What about cup finals, if Spurs will qualify?

Don't think they'll get the same adrenaline rush playing in a stadium they play in every other week.
Zatman
id say playing at Wembley will do more damage to them than good. Suppose the rare positive is the players are getting some experience with England playing there that it feels natural
VillaChris
Their home form will take a knock for sure, a better compromise than having to play their games in Franchise land though which really would've alienated their fan base at a time when things are going well. Yes, all the memories, highs - lows, life changing experiences, not just for players, managers and staff, but the fans who have frequented the place. Stories of their great grandparents standing in stadium, standing on milk crates. All the joy and the sorrow, euphoria and anger - all held up within those four soon-to-be demolished stands. BOF Posted July 14, 2016 Moderator Share Posted July 14, 2016 Yep, as a purist and a more general 'fan' of the game I don't like to see that happen. I know it's 'progress'. Must be hard for some of their fans to see that, even knowing what's coming. Spare a thought for Chelsea fans too Losing Three Point Lane.

It's bollocks though. Those thoughts are held up in their mind, not in bricks and mortar.
BOF Posted July 14, 2016 Moderator Share Posted July 14, 2016 You don't have a connection to a physical location then @dont_do_it_doug.. I'd be pretty bummed for example if the house I grew up in was ever knocked down.

You're right. although you could argue that those stories about being in that place on those specific times is now a full stop in the history. The next generation can no longer add to the history. But the cool thing is, they get to make their own

This is correct - but the Emirates isn't like Highbury. The Etihad isn't like Maine Road. I'd be absolutely gutted if Villa Park was knocked down and a new stadium built - "bollocks" or otherwise. They are still playing there this season so does that mean their capacity is reduced to below 30k? Is the new stadium going to cover part of WHL?
