Who I'll wager is just a front for the landlord if you dig deep enough, especially if that landlord is someone like David Wilson Homes.

Did you know if you all get together and vote on it, you can actually get rid of the managing agent and either appoint your own or do it yourselves?

That’s the bugger of it though. It’s almost impossible to get agreement from everyone to band together in this way. I live in a small block where the service charge has doubled in 8 years. About a third of us own and the rest are renters. Their landlords clearly have multiple properties and don’t care about a few quid here and there so we can never achieve a quorum.

Its the Landlord that pays the service charge not the tenant, why wouldn't they want more money and a well managed property? I get that they are hard to contact but it is possible

I know someone that lives in a block in Liverpool that did escape the managing agent, they managed it themselves and cut the payment down to 25% of previous and now repairs etc get done well and in a timely fashion. The property itself is in a much better state and there's actually a much better sense of community amongst the tenants and owners as they are all more involved with each other.

Hmmm sounds a bit socialist.

I think most people would prefer to pay a little bit extra to be sure they weren’t doing socialist utopia.

Not sure if it's pissed me off or just left me disappointed, had a bogof voucher for mains at Hard Rock so went to cologne, they've overhauled the menu, down to 4 starters, 6 burgers, about 5 other mains and a couple of salads, surprisingly only about 6 cocktails to choose from too and most importantly for me no local legendary burger

The food was OK, crazy expensive (was still £50 for a nacho sharer, 2 burgers a coke and a cocktail) it really can't justify what it is anymore

Had some good meals in about 15 of them around the world but that's the death knell of it for me

Have you done the Lindt museum there?  The only place I've ever eaten from a chocolate fountain that didn't taste of oil, and bah Gawd it was amazing.

Sounds totally capitalist to me, less outgoings, improved service

No, I know exactly where it is and walk around there loads of times but I've let my cadburys snobbery get the better of me... I'm not a lindt fan...

Maybe this is one for the 'unpopular opinions' thread, but . . . [deep breath] . . . it's not that bad? I was expecting it to be much more ghastly given the way everyone goes on about it, but it seems basically okay. (I understand this might be the result of some hard scrubbing by mods, in which case ignore me)

Okay, I take this one back, it's now that bad and worse. I see we've reached 'grown men ripping posters off the walls in floods of tears' level at this point.

I don't think they are connected, but I haven't had a forensic dig yet.

The problem with the second point, same as @choffer, is that over 50% of the 60 plus flats here are buy to let at a guess. Last leaseholder meeting (pre Covid) there was 8 people there!

@Xela probably has one of those in the courtyard of his gated community 🙄

Amazon and the amount of packaging it uses.  I ordered a few bits yesterday.  One item turned up with the postie, another item just turned up via Hermes, and the other 2 items are due by the Amazon driver later on today.

For what it's worth, I don't particularly like Lindt chocolate either, but whatever manner of liquid-cocoa they've got pumping through that thing is amazing.  The tour's quote good, actually, they've got a small-scale production line as part of it but with some perspex parts so you can see the interior workings and whatnot.

This. I decided the other day to use "Prime Day" to save on packaging as cardboard recycling keeps getting full. Did about 6/7 orders in total over the week. What did amazon do? put them all in separate packages, including putting items from the same order in separate packaging. Useless.

No! This is not an idea I can get behind.

Yes please.

I would have to stay well away from the music thread though.
