Things that piss you off that shouldn't

Not being able to find anyone I know who wants to live with me meaning I'm probably going to have to advertise to, and ultimately live with, randoms.

Could be a blessing in disguise mate. 2 of my best friends brought a house together, the amount of grief it caused them was unbelievable! 1 of them fell behind with payments etc. and caused a big rift.

In the end, them selling it (loosing a good chunk of cash on it) was the only thing that saved their friendship.

It wasnt only the money issue tho mate, when you socialise and live with someone it means you can pretty much spend 24hrs a day with them and its not always a good thing, you may end up wanting to tear their eyes out...thats what marriage is for! :winkold:

You've already been pulled up on it, but highlighting a pet hate of mine is an awful way to start a reply ;)

BUt you're probably right. But I'm nervous I'll end up with a psychopath.

My house isn't tiny, but it's not exactly massive, so we'll end up spending a lot of time in the same room so I want someone I get on with.

I don't want to sound like a perve (but it's inevitable) but I wouldn't mind a female housemate. Probably a better chance she'd be tidy and respectful

There's all sorts of sexism in that statement, in both directions, but I don't care.

Also if she falls behind with the rent, she could nosh you off to make up for it!

Every cloud....

:D

Indeed... thursday is dogging night.

But you are spot on Wig... I've had friends stay at my house on an informal basis for a few days at a time and i've always (without fail) been glad to get rid of them at the end of the period. A period which is usually followed by an intense cleaning & tidying session.

Get yourself a Trainee AQ Operative Stevo, the kind of guy who'll spend 8 hours a day flying a Boeing 737 from Gatwich to Montreal in real time on Microsoft flight sim.

Surely people don't ACTUALLY do that...?

I did that sort of thing way back when, in Flight Simulator 5.0 (with a whole lot of scenery add-in packs downloaded from the internet, since all you got out of the box was Chicago-area, New York-area, Seattle-area, Paris-area, Munich-area, and maybe San Francisco-area?). Transatlantic in a Cessna (with the "unlimited fuel" configuration option, checked, of course). Navigation was the fun part, really: FS5 didn't have the GPS functionality so you actually had to do that shit yourself (though I did cheat by pausing the game and going into "Slew mode", which would show you your latitude and longitude). If pressed, I can still recall the formulae for great circle navigation; I've tried it in later versions of MSFS (2000 onwards) and it's not as fun because you've got a GPS function that does the navigation for you.

Not sure if this counts but I've just become so disinterested in football recently, I don't hate it but I don't feel the same passion and addiction to it I did a year ago.

It's all Randy's fault - Sack the board!

You are not alone.

Back in the mid 80s, I'd just got married, bought a house etc. - and at the same time things at the Villa seemed distinctly shit; Ellis was back, the Saunders/Barton team has been dismantled, and I found myself losing interest. For the best part of a decade I took less and less notice of football in general, and Villa in particular. I would cast a desultory look at the football results on a Saturday (if I remembered), and note the Villa result. That was about it. To this day, the names of many of the Villa players of that period mean little or nothing to me.

It was only with the combination of Big Fat Ron, the 94 League Cup Final - and perhaps most importantly - my discovery of the internet, that my love of the Villa was re-ignited.

The worrying thing is, I can recognise the same feelings creeping up on me right now. The current XI just doesn't seem like a proper Villa team to me, I've been completely priced out of going to matches, I hate SKY and the whole business of current footballers' wages and attitudes just makes me sick.

I'm hanging in there for now, but only just.

How do people manage to get my name wrong over email?! It's in the **** signature, you c*nting retard!
Sorry Garth.

Was wondering who would be first to make the joke. :P

"Garth" I could forgive. Could easily be a typo. But "Gary", repeatedly, when the entire conversation has only taken place via email so it's not like I've spoken to the person beforehand and they've misheard my name. Heaven forfend.

Oh BTW, time for today's bit of annoying pedantry:

Disinterested vs. Uninterested

Disinterested: impartial.

Example: Let a disinterested person judge our dispute. (an impartial person)

Uninterested: not interested in.

Example: This man is uninterested in our dispute. (couldn't care less)

Commonly confused words

Yes, the money is really sickening, 100k a wk a few years ago was already insane but now we're seeing players being paid upwards of 200k a week.

I think a lot of it has to do with how pointless the Villa team seems to have become, let's be honest we're not going places anytime soon but we're not getting relegated either so there's very little excitement and tension to keep me interested. On top of that, I seem to be going through some sort of late adolescent identity change (can't think of a better way to describe it) and I've started to find so many things in life - science, books, films, music, nature, politics, even gaming (which is why I still frequent VT) - that just feel more interesting and intellectually stimulating than spectator sports that tbh feel repetitive after a while.

Or it might just be that I'm going through one of those recurring phases again whereby I lose interest in sports for a few months and then start following every match earnestly for a few months again after that, rinse repeat rinse repeat. However, my disinterest this time has already persisted far longer than usual, and somehow this time round it just feels more like a fundamental change in my psyche rather than merely a part of a cycle.

Just had to get that off my chest, sorry :)

You know what, I actually anticipated this  so I did a quick semantic check before I posted, to make sure I was using the right word.

dis·in·ter·est·edAdjective/disˈintəˌrestid/

1. Not influenced by considerations of personal advantage.

2. Having or feeling no interest in something

Second definition ;)

Same here - except that in my case, if it's a life change, it's not "late adolescence" it's "late middle age"!

Same reason I still frequent VT, too - just to chat about those things you mention (except gaming).

You know what, I knew someone would come back with that!

Technically, yes.

But it's like the "alternate"/"alternative" thing. Makes sense to me to use a different word for each meaning, seeing as it's available.

Sure it's a bindunne in this thread but those Plusnet adverts are driving me nuts. I don't care that you're from Yorkshire and since when was that a selling point anyway?

Would even rather watch the Go Compare ad!

I think some people assume that "Gary" is short for "Gareth".
