Apart from Bennett of course. Condimentalist Posted June 18, 2013 Share Posted June 18, 2013 Interesting that everyone has Vlaar on the right of the back 4. I actually think he'll move over and Okore will come in on the right. That's where he played for FCN by all accounts and, apparently, Vlaar played on the left side at Feyenoord. He shouldn't be guaranteed starts, and I do wonder whether in away games, having a winger I.e bacuna or tonev in the team ahead of him would benefit the quality of our counter attacks, and natural width. Kwan Posted June 19, 2013 Share Posted June 19, 2013 I would go ----------Guzan---------- -Lowton-Okore-Vlaar-Luna ------Westwood---Delph--- -Weimann-Tonev--Agbonlahor ----------Benteke------------ This is essentially the formation we played a few times last season (most notably the Man U disaster) with the exception that Tonev is in for N'Zogbia and Weimann is shifted out wide. Admittedly, I haven't seen enough of Tonev to know whether or not he would be suited for this role, but from the brief clips I've seen him, he seems to be capable of playing there. My concerns with this formation is that it is a bit too attacking. Tonev will need to work hard to chip in the middle while Gabby and Andi can't neglect their defensive duties. I'm also still not convinced with Westwood and Delph's defensive tracking. Too many times last season, they miscommunicated on who would pick up who. I don't necessarily think this is all the back line's fault, but more of a systematic failure for the whole team. On the positives, it is very attacking and the line of three with Andi, Tonev, and Gabby can interchange at any time, making the runs difficult to track. We will be incredibly quick on the break and Westwood and Delph can do a good job keeping possession when we have the ball against weaker teams. He likes to get forward.
