From an article a couple of days ago by Simon Bird:

It was more to do with your comment he doesn’t know how to use the internet. Pretty much all manager claim not to read the papers / follow social media etc. Always have done.

Like last week where he said he made a mistake against Sheffield United picking a defensive team?

The thing is, following that Sheffield United defeat he proclaimed that he was now going to do things his way. So you see, all this time, it’s not really been his fault, he’s just tried to keep the players happy by letting them play the way Rafa used to.

Unfortunately so far, the new Steve Bruce way hasn’t produced any points (or goals) as of yet, but that’s something insignificant that the naysayers will unfairly pick up on.

You think he decided to have a dig back at fans who were having a go at him instead of working on trying to improve the team?

It certainly appeared that way.

Still, who could we have got that was better? Oh, that's right, Dean Smith

We’re in agreement, we sacked him and upgraded at the right time.

Steve bruce doesn't do tactics

Christ even mcleish had some tactical awareness (the famed 4 right back against bale at spurs, with hard operating as a 5th auxiliary right back that night) but bruce...

11 players, defend and hope someone scores.

No tactics, eh? how about

1 - Put on yer boots

2 - Roll up yer sleeves

3 - Give it a right good go

I remember him saying something along those lines when he managed us. I could be remembering wrong though.

We should have upgraded sooner - although in hindsight we might still be owned by Xia if we had got rid of him.

Newcastle v Leeds on Tuesday....

I want Newcastle to win that one, they aren’t going down so them winning will keep Bruce in post and illicit a “shut a few people up” comment and huge backlash from their fans. Plus I want to see Leeds disintigrate.

I will be cheering Steve Bruce on Tuesday as if he was villa manager in a play off final. I want Leeds to be terrible.

Newcastle will likely get smashed though. They will let pressure develop and eventually cave in. If they can somehow hold the line and nick something from a longball to Wilson they might get something considering Leeds' defensive is shite. Not holding my breath though...

Didn't Leeds hit them for 4 or 5 last time they met? Couldn't be a worse 2 games for Newcastle to get back on track than 2 winnable games on paper against Villa and Leeds but they might as well be playing City and United because they match up so poorly against these kinds of teams. You love to see it!

Personally don't care too much about Leeds and how they do. They'll finish about 12th or 13th with no relegation fears. Hell, Newcastle haven't won since November and are still 7 points clear of the drop.

He was apparently computer illiterate at the time of this article:

Quote

the manager boasted about his inability to send an email. While Bruce – who did finally learn how to log on last summer when the club issued him with an iPad – may well argue this lack of computer literacy was hardly relevant, many of his peers spend countless hours checking out the latest sports science innovations, researching transfer targets and analysing Prozone statistics on their increasingly indispensable laptops.

To which he later responded (still doesn't sound great):

Quote

"It was said that said I was not internet friendly and how could I be a Premier League manager," says Bruce. "That is an insult. I don't trawl the internet, but I can send an email and we have six of our backroom staff into sports science; it's vital."

Both old reports though.
