Not sure why anyone believes the hype about him being a decent fella and a nice guy. He isn't  - he has and will always do what is best for Steve Bruce and has form for leaving clubs in the lurch when it suits him and his constant blaming of everyone else but himself for his shortcomings is laughable. The way he attacked the supporters and claimed hysteria was completely classless. As someone else mentioned,  McCleish got much more abuse due to the Blues connection and the even worse football but was always decent and respectful to the club and fans. All Steve cares about is "Brand Bruce" - for some reason, the thick, pathetic sporting "journalists" in this country lap it up and promote the illusion

Crap manager (Vs. his undeserved reputation) and classless bloke full stop. Perfect match for Newcastle. Sheffield have had a lucky escape.

Sure he is a member of the Fergie mafia of journeymen hoofball managers who never laid a glove on Fergie teams and then put all effort in on and off the pitch vs his foreign opponents like Rafa and Wenger. These managers are still getting jobs to this day and are known as Proper Football Men by some sections of the media

Mourinho was too clever to fall for it

I don't know whether to feel sorry for the Wednesday fans or pleased for them, they were very positive about Bruce, as they thought there was a good chance that he'd get them promoted, now they're gutted it looks like he's leaving, some comparing the situation to when Atkinson came to us. Plus there's the fact that they let him have a couple of months off before he signed, now if this happens he'll be leaving them in the lurch in the middle of pre-season, so not the best way to repay the good faith they showed him in the beginning.

I think it comes down to expectation.  He was bad for us because we needed to go up.  He's been good for them because they don't need to, but he gives them a chance; certainly of being competitive and punching above the weight their squad currently has.  FWIW I do feel sorry for them if he leaves, only because it's not what they wanted.  Plus the timing of it stinks.  It's also a terrible time to be joining Newcastle, so fingers crossed it goes every bit as badly as in my vivid imagination.

Suggestions now that Bruce's move to them might have fallen through because Newcastle and Wednesday can't come to an agreement over the compensation to be paid. He also took training with Wednesday today as usual. Not sure where Newcastle go from here if that's the case.

I suspect it will be resolved when Mike Ashley throws in a giant sports direct mug and a pair of Lonsdale shorts for £1

Poor Wednesday. I suspect as the season has started any break clause in his contract has passed and they're now stuck with him, even though his been flashing his moobs at the Geordies.

The papers are quoting 5million compensation. No way Ashley pays that.

He actually let a bunch of their players go who had come to the end of their contracts, including George Boyd and Gary Hooper, players that another manager might have wanted to keep, he's also signed three players, again money thant another manager might have preferred to use differently.

But the next manager will have those players and money to add new ones because of the compensation they will get, but hey why let that get in the way with a good old Bruce bashing.

And if those players joined Wednesday to specifically play with Bruce? Or Wednesday need to use the compensation money to recruit their own new manager and backroom staff?

The general PR mood that surrounds our ex manager is truly baffling.

What if the new manager doesn't want them players. The club are stuck with players that dont fit a managers system

Aren't Newcastle fans keen on attacking football?

And the club want Bruce?

MIke Ashley is not keen on Newcastle fans so its a vicious circle

though Rafa plays negative football and they loved him

MIKE ASHLEY could end up having to pay MORE for Steve Bruce than he offered Rafa Benitez to stay at Newcastle.

Bruce’s dream move to Newcastle depends on the Toon paying Sheffield Wednesday a £5million ‘transfer’ fee.

That figure is far more than Ashley expected and he would have to stump up even more for Bruce’s coaches Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence.

That takes the whole package closer to £6m.

With wages on top, the final bill will dwarf the £6m Toon owner Ashley offered Benitez to sign a new deal before the Spaniard left last month.

Yes I know, The Sun, but still.

Meaningless to compare those costs though, it's nonsense, which isn't exactly unexpected from the uninformed bellends at the s*n.

Rafa didn't leave due to his wages. It's not like they could have just offered him the total cost of the Bruce+coaches package as a salary for him to stay. He wanted a better wage/transfer budget and overhauled training facilities, not an extra couple of mill in his bank account.

Bruce on the touchline this afternoon for Wednesday's friendly with Lincoln. They've also signed a player today, Kadeem Harris.

He spoke to the press after the game and said its all speculation until the clubs come to a compromise over the compensation figure.
