Bruce was happy enough to refer to relatively small fee Hourihane was bought for when he scored the free kick against Newcastle last season. He’s done likewise with McGinn on several occasions. I suspect that's a mental thing as much as anything, once they were behind their shoulders slumped a bit and that was that. This was one of the trademarks during his time with us. We pressed successfully as a team at the start of a fair few games but we never did it for more than 20 or so minutes, often not even that long. I'd guarantee you'd feel different if we were in the championship and Jack was in a spurs shirt. Coming 90 minutes away from promoting us is like constantly hitting the post, the history books wont remember it. Only the people who watched it will. I watched it and it was **** dreadful. Never in the history of football has 90 minutes looked so impossible. He failed. Repeatedly. He was one of the best backed managers in the league with resources most managers at that level would have given their right arm for. He had the team languishing in 15th place mid way though the season. His successor got us promoted that same season. All whilst having an arrogant attitude that we should be grateful for his service, whilst being fawned over by the media for being a nice bloke. He isn't. Bruce was sacked far to late. The fact that he still gets managerial gigs is utterly astonishing, still dining out on a reputation that is no longer deserved. I dislike the man and I hate his football. He should have retired years ago. I don't blame him for still being around, I blame the owners who keep employing him.
