Demitri_C Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 I suspect it is as it doesn't state my name just "dear applicant" I got this email from HMRC yesterday regarding a tax refund, tried calling them to verify but was on hold for 20 minutes and gave up as was at work. Dear Applicant: You have received a tax refund payment of 632.25GBP from HMRC (HM Revenue & Customs) into your Internet Banking Account. Please accept the tax refund request. The money will appear in your Internet Banking Account within 3-6 days. A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons. For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline. Please click on sign in to Online Banking to accept your incoming funds Best Regards HM Revenue & Customs
Wainy316 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Scam, they always send you a letter, then a cheque a few days later. 1
Milfner Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Always trust emails that are sent to you by HMRC, that £632.25 is all yours. 100% legitimate, nothing to worry about. 2

Jimzk5 Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 Why would you need to sign into your bank account for them to send you a Tax refund?
Dr_Pangloss Posted June 15, 2013 Posted June 15, 2013 (edited) Why would you need to sign into your bank account for them to send you a Tax refund? LOL. Not the sharpest knife in the drawer Demitri. The HM R&C number isn't an 0800 one is it? Edited June 15, 2013 by Dr_Pangloss
