PaulC
Sherwood played to his strengths to be fair. Just don’t know what happened to him. He had one good season at palace but he’s someone that should have done better in his career

He looked like a donkey quite often. But he had, with us, plenty of moments where that flipped and he'd smack in a worldie from nothing or dominate a centre half. Then he picked up the Achilles injury and had lost a bit of something. And then the Liverpool dream turned into a nightmare. Escaping that at Palace he has a decent run as a focal point and then wobbles and he's done. He's on the road to retirement now. Will be headed off to the final payday soon enough in some shonky league that he doesn't have have to be in top condition to donate again.

Genie
The fact he could of left CP on a free but activated the extra year tells you about how much interest there isn’t in him.
Genie
It was only a matter of time. The question was “if villa could sign any 3 players realistically, who would you sign” on a Villa Facebook group.

villa4europe
The way Palace fans are talking about how he's playing he sounds exactly the same as Davis, not scoring and then a mixture of fans thinking he's shit to others saying his hold up play and movement is keeping them ticking over

Popular Post Panto_Villan
After enjoying seeing the new lads playing so much this season (and I do like Watkins a lot) I decided to go and watch a highlight reel of Tekkers' goals for Villa ... because I absolutely loved the bloke and he's probably my favorite Villa player. I think it's because one of my mates mercilessly ribbed me about us signing "the Belgian Heskey" in the couple of games before he turned into a wrecking ball banging in ridiculous goals left, right and center and I found rubbing that in his face immensely satisfying. Anyway, back on topic - man, he was so good. I've got a LOT of time for Watkins but Tekkers was on another level when he played for us. Would have loved to see him playing in a team like this! So strange to think we all thought he was destined for Barcelona or Real Madrid and he's spent most of his days (not) playing for Crystal Palace. Popular Post Mantis
I'll always have a soft spot for him tbh. When he was on his game (which tbf for us was more often than not) he was unplayble. He gave us three good seasons of service and basically kept us up on his own.

Tommo_b
I genuinely thought he was going to go on and become one of the best strikers of his generation... Don’t understand how his career spiralled so much, did he lose the passion for football when he joined Liverpool?
Demitri_C
He probably lokks back and thinks leaving villa wasnt the best career decision. I get why he left but like downing the grass is not always greener just more money

rodders0223
If he had anything about him he would have asked Palace to rip up his contract this summer. Last January or even the year before. I am sure they would have been glad to.
blunther
I was convinced he'd be a £100m footballer, and I told any of my friends who would listen just how good he was. I wonder if he regrets leaving us when he did, or if he's one of those just happy to sit and count his money.
Stevo985 Posted October 20, 2020 VT Supporter Share Posted October 20, 2020 Yeah similar to others I was absolutely convinced he'd leave us and go on to be one of the best strikers around. He just seemed to have everything, he scored every kind of goal, skillful, intelligent, fast, powerful. He was keeping Lukaku out of the Belgium side absolutely on merit. I know there are reasons why he's been held back, like Hodgson not being the best manager for someone like Benteke. But I'm still amazed he hasn't turned out better than he has. It was so obviously the wrong move for him at the time, they were just never going to play to his strength. Yet his scoring record for them was still decent, it was still okay at Palace in the first season then dropped off a cliff. He was always a confidence player, you could see that with how he started for us then exploded into life. When he scored he would often score more than one which again links to confidence I think. His confidence has totally gone now as I’m sure has a large part of his motivation. When with us he was always looking to making the big move but once that’s failed being motivated to play for Palace would be hard. I may be being silly but I’d still have him back and I still think playing to his strengths and with fans back in Villa Park (if that ever happens again) singing his name he would recover some of that form.
