Dafabet is our new official sponsor

Inevitable it was going to be another Asian gambling company, as that is where the money is now.

As nice as it would be to have a charity or a local company, when you are pissing money away year on year then we can't be too picky.

TBH im not bothered our sponsor is a betting company. Im just disappointed that our great club can no longer find a classier company such as Land Rover or Jaguar, rather than some tin pot back alley betting firm ive never heared of.

I guess it comes down to getting the best deal however, but would we gain more interest and possible future investment if we ran around with Acorns on our shirts again for 12 months?

Im a cynical old git, but i would like to think the latter holds true.

I thought Randy had been against gambling sponsorship ,  maybe not

Meh

This is an old discussion. It is 6 years since we had 32Red as our sponsor. I think he accepted pragmatism over idealism. But either way, he did it a while back.

I would suspect that it's more a case of the NFL told him Villa could have a sportsbook as shirt sponsor or he could have the Browns, but not both. The NFL really dislikes sportsbetting, though it was and is the pointspread that built that sport's popularity.

I read somewhere one of his ideas when he bought us was that he wanted to turn Villa Park into one big supercasino. So I very much doubt it!

He is a credit card magnate after all.

I'm guessing this would be worth around £8 million for two seasons. Which is good business for them as they are probably loaded like all them asian betting companies.

Don't like the name, logo is ok though not too instrusive.

Yeah i think Gambling gets a pretty bad press. Its actually a very enjoyable hobby (when controlled) for many people including myself. I would much rather give myself £50 a week to enjoy having a few punts than go round town getting wasted.

Don't smoke, Don't heavily drink regularly. I really do not see an issue.

Not too fussed about sponsor, as they are just there to give us a little money.

What I am bothered about is how the logo will look on the shirt. Not sure about the whole logo, but if it was just the 'D' bit (assuming that is a D) in gold OR just Dafabet in white text along the shirt that would look ok... ?

The gold D is a key part of their logo it will come with the white text...the real question is will it have a boarder? I'm thinking/hoping not and it will just be the standalone logo which will look decent on the claret shirt.

In a way I can see where you are coming from, it would be great to have a prestigious company but unfortunately money talks.

As for the acorns thing, whilst us as fans thought it was brilliant and a great gesture from the club; I don't think in the football or outside world much attention was paid to us. Think it was an itv commentator who whilst Barca were playing stated that they did not have a sponsor and that it was a charity, and that he couldn't ever see a prem team doing that. We were doing it at that time. If a sports commentator (even a crap one) didnt know about it how was the rest of the world? Also wasn't it reported that Acorns got less donations during the time of our sponsorship as people thought we were already giving them loads? Whilst I like that we have an affiliation with acorns and continue to support them, I think sponsorship is probably best from a paying company irrelevant of who they are.

I really don't get the hate towards betting companies. They offer a perfectly legal service that people want.

You may have missed the point

Which is?
Yes they offer a legal service, however it's a service which can lead to massive problems for many people , a problem that is on a massive increase. We will now be normalising the next generation of kids to believe that betting / in play and all this nonsense is part and parcel of the game and sport generally. I don't endorse that and it's a shame my club do. Yes I bet. I can control it (I think).

Not everyone can control it. Its a problem that's only getting bigger .
