Of course not, but I was using Oz's rule of thumb to be facetious. Doesn't matter anyway. I can tell you now that Jaguar Land Rover will NEVER sponsor Aston Villa. Jaguar as an individual brand wouldn't be beyond the realms of possibility, but still very very unlikely and certainly not in the near future. But Land Rover won't ever be on our shirts unless something at the company was to change drastically. Interesting, what is it that makes you say that about LR, Steveo? Ok, there are probably a few that I really wouldn't want, but gambling companies aren't among those. I know that being addicted to gambling is more common than one can think, but it's still a mind problem and it's up to each persons responsibility. As so few here have even heard about this company before I guess its' main reason is to get in to the english betting market first and foremost. Take customers from other betting companies already ruling that market. Like most new companies want. Nothing new. Jaguar Land Rover Ltd is one company under Tata now anyway is it not? It's one company but two separated brands. Land Rover as a brand has a small list of sports that it will support. I think it's only 5. I can't remember them all but Rugby and Equestrian are certainly on there. Football definitely isn't one of them. It's just not a market Land Rover is interested in, certainly in the UK. Not saying that'll never change. But it certainly won't be any time soon. Jaguar is more relaxed. But it's still very unlikely they'd sponsor a team as it wouldn't benefit them (or at least the benefit wouldn't represent good value for money) and, given the fairly large corporate presence they have with Coventry City (or the Ricoh to be specific, but still heavily related to Cov), it's be very unlikely they'd choose Villa to sponsor if they were to move into Football Sponsorship, imo. He came out with the old "sounds like daft bet" comment which appears to be being used by all the anti Villa patch of Birmingham... He can't get his head round the way a club with such huge potential is being run in such a small time way... So i said to him.... "But you have just answered your own question" "what do you mean?" he said "well you have just spent the last five minutes talking about a company you had never heard of before" " so that just shows you the power of having your companies name on a Villa shirt!" He momentarily was stuck for words... then started hurling "my club is bigger than your club" five year old comments at me I didn't bother answering him about those things however.. After all Man U fans specialise in patronisation because they know they have the biggest fan base, stadium, trophy cabinet, income off sponsors etc etc... so it's an argument they simply cannot lose.... very easy to rub it in peoples faces from that position is it not?.... I'd hate to be a Newcastle, Blackpool or Hearts fan who parades 'Wonga' around every time they put their club's shirt on. That is an enterprise set up purely to take advantage of the dis-advantaged. Gambling is like Drinking or any other vice; done in moderation, and with amounts you can afford, it causes no real harm, and can actually act as a source of entertainment. From the little I've read in the past few minutes they don't do loans for housing either so it's hard to argue, from my limited knowledge, that people who borrow from them genuinely need the money. I genuinely struggle to understand why they are that bad, it's not like they coerce people into borrowing from them. Example: 300 pounds for one week. At 1% daily compounding, that grows to 315 or so. Meanwhile (per teh Grauniad) it's reasonably typical for a UK bank to charge 15 pounds plus a pound a day so 322 to repay. One of the big gripes with payday loans is they target poorer people and people who do not speak English in the hopes they will not understand exactly what they are getting into. We also have Title Loan places that take your car title as collateral and will repossess your car, which is often times more valuable than the value of the loan, if you fail to repay. Bookmakers offer a form of entertainment. For every horse race, football bet, roulette spin, poker hand - there will be a winning customer - no doubt more. The entertainment part is trying to make that winner - you. Screwing people out of money? Nah. They have a product and they sell it well. For me they are not screwing people any more than insurance companies, petrol stations, Asda, Local Pubs and even our beloved Aston Villa. At least with gambling you have a choice and there is no set price. Personally I think it is disturbing that so many of you think gambling is the same as any other business. The same as a pub, a supermarket, a petrol station? You have to understand that there are good betting companies, pinnacle are a great company, they will accept big bets, they won't ban winners. Betfair is an excellent exchange. However, the vast, vast majority of gambling companies aren't interested in offering good odds. If you do win, they will ban you. They will use arbitrage to guarantee profits but ban you if you do the same. What's more they are more interested in weaning people onto casino games and onto poker where they have an in-built advantage and will make a guaranteed profit. That's what I mean when I said they are dedicated to screwing people out of money. To compare that to companies that offer essential services is incredibly wrong in my view. We need supermarkets, petrol stations, insurers.
