Jesus wept! the people moaning about gambling?  FFS i like a bet on the football but i'm not a gambling addict, same as we all like a beer but are not alcoholics or are you gonna tell me drinking is wrong too??? I spend about a 5-10 pound on a Saturday afternoon before going to the villa a (and yes i do it online)  I enjoy spending that 5-10 pound winning or losing is irelevant, i did it last season and ill do it this season and next and the next.  I seriously think some people really need to get a life.  To me a footie team having a betting company as a sponsor is relevant and fits, i will leave you to get back to your perfect straight edge lives

I do get the general impression that the tide is turning a bit and clubs are getting a bit more sensitive about the brands they associate themsleves with.  

Well done, Millwall. I bet the online gambling and payday loan snakes were crawling round their club like nobody's business given the generally deprived area they are based in.

 

Allowing a charity to take the sponsor's space on your club's shirts? Now there's an idea.

 

Wonder if Dafabet would agree to pay for space in each programme for free publicity for Gamble Aware?

Obviously it's slightly different, as they're not giving up their space, per se, but still. Also I don't think gambling sites and 'pay day loan snakes' are really comparable. Sure, you could argue both exploit vulnerable people, but most big businesses do and once we get into that territory, we could go on and on.

You're missing my point. I never said they were similar and I'm not talking within the actual selling of the product itself as such, but most huge companies will exploit vulnerable people at some stage of the process. Focussing on just gambling companies and pay day loaners (which again are completely different animals; comparing their ethics is OTT) and saying 'THEY'RE MORALLY WRONG' is a bit odd. But this debate has been done to death.

How on earth is having that image promoting our club on their front page, on a global website outside of the UK and in particular Asia where Dafabet are quite prominent, in exchange for a few million quid insulting? Edited by StanBalaban

The deals struck before promotion are presumably for basically no money.

The airline sponsorships would appear to be little more than a pissing contest between Dubai and Abu Dhabi.

North Eastern clubs are apparently not that appealing to sponsors. I'm not sure a food logistics company would see that much more business arising from a football club sponsorship: I doubt there's much money in it for Sunderland. The two financial firms catering to the lower end of the market are most decidedly not aiming for international exposure.

Chelsea's, Everton's, and Man Utd's are all long-standing sponsorships of possibly little relevance to the current situation.

Standard Chartered are sponsoring Liverpool for Far East exposure.

West Brom have long had trouble finding sponsors; I don't think Zoopla are paying that much.

HP are presumably merely the inheritors of the Autonomy acquisition. Considering the extent to which HP seems to want to forget the reign of error that was Apotheker's tenure, I suspect that HP will terminate the Spurs sponsorship at the earliest opportunity.

The only big money in sponsorship at this point, outside of playing Abu Dhabi and Dubai against each other (and Emirates aren't paying a lot, though they did help pay for the stadium), is from online gambling of one sort or another.

As an American I'm always stunned by the close relationships between gambling and teams around the world, but as long as the check clears for the club I'm pretty happy.

 

I'd love to have some sponsor that everybody knows and would enhance the prestige of the club, but if you're a big global company (Ford, Coca Cola, Apple, etc), then you don't really need to sponsor a club like AVFC. Chevrolet's involved with Man U because of their global reach (and I think they fired the guy that cut that deal because it was so outrageous), but we're not in that "power group" of clubs.

 

Hell, when I played youth football one of our teams was sponsored by a company called "Glover's Transmission and Rear End"; you can imagine how well THAT went over with 8 year olds, having a euphemism for a posterior as your sponsor.
