Jores Okore

Think its unfair to criticise Lambert over the timing of Okores appearances.

As others have said, he still looked way off the pace in pre-season. The Vlaar-Senderos partnership at the start of the season had everyone drooling and few would have suggested we break that pairing up. ironically, a few months later, Senderos now finds himself in the position that Okore was in back in August.

When Lamberts hand was forced, he went with, firstly Baker and then Clark. It has to be said that even with hindsight, he got those shouts right as neither player let us down.

Okore got his chance recently and has certainly taken it. We are frequently seeing glimpses of the player we thought we were getting when he first joined.

For their age, both Clark and Baker are mature players, purely because they have been thrown in at the deep end at an early age, Okore also shows signs of maturity beyond his years. None are the finished article yet but all three, coupled with Senderos (and the fact we seem to be hovering above the relegation scrap) makes me hope that Vlaar leaves in January and that we get some cash for him. I'd be more than happy to pair any two of the remaining four together between now & the end of the season-Even three if Saturdays system is deployed again. With Hutton & Ally also putting in consistent performances, the defence is the least of our worries.

give someone a new long term deal after a handful of good games?

Sounds familiar...

would you prefer to run his contract down and leave for peanuts like Delph and Vlaar?

He's still got 4 years left though right? Give him a new contract in the summer when he's proved his worth over the season.

Maybe he's playing well because he's ready now?? He could have been ready earlier as well but just couldn't get into the team because of how well the other 3 CBs were performing, and rightly so. Without trying to sound like a broken record, if Lambert didn't think he was ready he would have played Herd or someone when the other CBs got injured.

You might be right but it seems a massive coincidence that the exact moment he's ready is the exact moment there are no other fit defenders
That probably wasn't the exact moment he was ready.

But that was a good opportunity to give him a chance. And he's taken it.

I agree with that, I just think there were other chances he could have come in which could have helped us and stopped okore getting frustrated. If we hadn't had injuries what would be looking at? Probably okore wanting to leave in a couple of weeks.

It's not really an issue to criticise Lambert over, it's not an easy one where there's a clear right way to do everything. But at the same time IMO it wasn't handled perfectly and actually we've been fortunate that we've now got a top player happy and playing week in week out.

What would managing him perfectly entail then? Putting him in the team earlier at the expense of well-performing CBs and possibly before he's ready? Just to keep him happy so we don't lose him (which wasn't going to happen anyway, and if it did it would have been on loan). That's not good management, or even realistic management.

You keep saying well performing cb.

He could have replaced clark after he was poor against arsenal.

He could have replaced baker after the Chelsea game and consecutive 3-0 losses.

He could have replaced Clark after his poor performance against QPR.

After that poor performance he could have been on the bench against Everton and replaced baker when he got injured.

Crazy to look back on that spell and think there were no realistic opportunities for okore to come into the team.

I was waiting to see if anyone would say this.

Remarkable that the time he was ready is just when we had a load of injuries. Quite incredible. Very lucky for us as well.

Jores is a chief. Great signing.

2 years after this?

Four year deal wasn't it.

Oh I thought he signed a 5-year deal last summer.

May have been 4 though.

What does it matter?!

Okore is in the team and he is playing well.

Enjoy it.

Agree with this wholeheartedly, he's brilliant, you could see it in his brief appearances last season, he's really great Edited by sir_gary_cahill
