It bothers me that the Graf 'Heat' 7" link on the previous page is broken, so here it is again

Thinking about 90s Sci Fi - I'd have to put Jurassic Park, Fifth Element, and Terminator 2 at the top I think, but The Matrix would have to be right up there too. Really should give that another watch some time soon.

Unless I’m very much mistaken it appears no one has said “Speed”.

I’d possibly go as far to say that was the definitive 90’s action movie, ahead of “The Rock”, “Con Air”, “Face/Off” etc. The simplicity of it (or the “high concept”) is probably a big factor in it for me.

It’s sort of the Die Hard of the 90’s (although not quite as good admittedly). The Keanu/Dennis Hopper dynamic definitely has echoes of the one between Willis and Rickman.

You know if a film is being referenced/parodied on the likes of The Simpsons and Father Ted then it’s done something right.

The X-Files also parodied 'Speed' in an episode called 'Drive', it was the first time that Bryan Cranston had worked with Vince Gilligan, and his performance in the episode lead him to being cast by Gilligan as Walter White in Breaking Bad ten years later.

Goodfellas, Shawshank Redemption and Heat are the ones that I think of immediately.  

Guilty pleasure films:  Point Break, Home Alone, Toy Story, Jurassic Park, Mrs Doubtfire, Saving Private Ryan, Independence Day, American Pie.

good film! recently started watching some youtube channel that sits on a sofa with special effects guys and look at the best and the worst by slowing it down, zooming in etc and telling you how they did it, what they did wrong and what is awesome (started watching it because they also sometimes do stunt men which is better, the scene in the last star wars film with rey and kylo fighting the red guys, the 1 scene I actually liked, showed just how bad that scene is front a stunt man / fight co-ordination persepctive)

they do 2/3 minutes of Pleasantville saying just how good it is, not just the way they did the colours but the way the colours project on to everything else (reflections etc) they said its incredible what they did for that time

Hollywood seemed to make better films back then, looking at the biggest grossing films of this decade I haven't seen a single one of them...
